Which was your favorite bootleg? If you've seen any bootlegs yourself, let us know below!
START PLAYING CHESS.
"Please do not give us negative reviews of our products due to mini" is my tinder bio
Call 911. I choked on my food because of this comment
@@kisaragireion uh oh
@kisaragireion guess you could say there was a choking hazard due to small parts
BICHARD 😭
You know that one Twitter screenshot of an old NES baseball game where somebody in Japan had to phone in a list of 50 fake American baseball players
Is that Byacinth's long-suffering husband? 😂
@@lancesmith8298 Hey my best friend's name just happens to be Sleve McDichael, what do you mean fake names?
For the curious, 棋类 can mean "chess" or "board game".
the consistency of it made me figure it must be SOME sort of literal translation error. good to know!
China is like your mom that calls every videogame nintendo
I think it's interesting that they decided that chess is the default board game
With the success of the segment "NO! THAT IS NOT CHESS!", how about a video going over the weirdest novelty chess sets? Of course you've got your classic movie tie-in chess sets (e.g. LOTR, Shrek -- I have played the Shrek chess), but I'm sure there's a batsh*t-bananas world to dive headlong into.
There's gotta be some weird ones out there. Chess was dead in our group until the Mario Chess Set revived it so hard some people are still playing years later
@kamsandwich You going to talk about the 2020 battle for the white house chess set? With such favorite chess characters as Trump, Obama, Mitch McConnell, and many more!
Highly recommend Sovereign Chess for this!
My sister gave me an old ‘Simpsons’ chess a few years ago--Krusty is a knight on a play horse, and Homer is all robed up as the King. Pretty sweet.
The Danbury Mint _Doctor Who_ chess set. The game can, in theory, go for ages--swap out the Doctor and companion if you need to.
If ever there comes a time when a bootleg of The Campaign for North Africa: The Desert War 1940-1943 exists, we will have officially peaked as a species.
I fed the name into google translate about 50-60 times and got "North African Wars: The War of the Desert 1941-1943"
Sounds like a real thrilling time to make a bootleg.
I saw a bootleg Sorry at Five Below once called “No Apologies!” 😂😂😂
🎵What else should I be? No Apologies?🎵
Way better name than Sorry™©® IMO
I have another fake guess who game called, Who’s that game.
The whole don't break the ice thing was a trip.
"SKIPPER?"
"IS THAT THE PENGUIN FROM HAPPY FEET?"
"DID SCISSORS JUST BEAT ROCK?"
"new."
just new
12:17 It says it right there, "the one who makes the penguin fall off the will". The goal of the game is clearly to make your opponent write him out of their last will and testament.
14:20 Untrue - That one actually says Penguin Jrap, of course meaning the penguin you get comes with a speaker that plays a rap song from Japan.
WE DOING MASS DESTRUCTION WITH THIS ONE
I’m shocked by the slander in this video. My copy of Sincere Apologies fun bounce dice game competitive game fun family game funny game works perfectly fine. Sure, the dice did fly out of the “rolling bubble” and hit me in the eyes that one time, but other than that, perfectly fine.
That's why I left that one off. Sincere Apologies Fun Bounce Dice Game Competitive Game Fun Family Game Funny Game is fire!
"Why the rules in the back of the box in portuguese?"
As a Brazillian i have to say that we have a sprawling bootleeg boardgames market since the 70s, is so big that the bootlegs tend to be bigger than the originals. No one plays Risk here, just "War" (a risk clone that takes twice the time)
And having the option of paying in installments, it seems they really know the target audience
No way we are going to gloss over the fact that is called the Game of P L A N
I feel bad for whoever felt TROUBLE was worth the Bootleg treatment.
I'm surprised there wasn't a Monopoly bootleg called Fair Competition.
"Monopsony, the single-player adaptation of Monopoly"
@@8stormy5 monotony
@@hiimemilylove the pfp btw
Monopoly was itself a copy, & for about 20 years it had to compete against three similar games: Finance, Easy Money, & Big Business.
@@stillbuyvhs In the words of Boy George, "It's not about who does it first; it's about who does it best."
9:00 I remember playing a non-bootleg version of the game of life, where the spinner had the "roulette wheel" design. It was used to make 50-50 decisions.
Can confirm newer versions of the game of life do have the roulette wheel
It's easy to explain why "The Game of Plan" is a one time setup game. It's made so cheaply that it will fall apart after playing it once, so there's no second setup.
Fucked up in the crib playing Battlevessel
3:01 I’m actually very close to Saram, D, and Bichard and I find this insulting.
I'm ngl this feels like a Scott the Woz video with all the live actions sections but without the blue border and talking about board games. You're THE bootleg board game Scott the Woz and I mean that in the best way.
I remember having a version of "Don't break the ice" back in the late 90s as a kid.
However the version I had didn't had a penguin, but a sitting man.
I quickly look it up and found it instantly that it's from Hasbro/Milton Bradley.
"DID SCISSORS JUST BEAT ROCK?!"
I started recommending this channel to my besties- I think this vid is gonna grab a lot of people.
The games themselves are funny as hell but your commentary keeps making me giggle. Also the Mr Frog shoutout lets gooooo
Seriously one of my fav channels now.
Thank you! Appreciate the shoutouts!
Showing my age, but when i last played 'dont break the ice' in the 90s, we had a person in the middle so the penguin is a cute update lol. And now the song is stuck in my head
🎶don't spill thr beans, don't break the ice, ants in your pants, and cooties~~~🎶
I appreciate that nice little smiling friends reference you threw in during feed the frog
He's mr frog, this is his game, he eats the bug, he ate the bug, that is the end, he loves you
I liked the Smiling Friends reference keep it up man
Mr Frog is the best
@@RyanTheSharkie69 I actually voted for Jimble.
At 5:46
Big ups for putting the product push after the video. Doing gods work while still securing the bag
i remember once being at aldi and seeing a twister bootleg with traced over jimmy neutron renders on the box, absolutely glorious
ive always loved bootlegs purely for the text, the fact that youve focused so much on it here makes me happy, Bichard is my new favourite man
I feel obligated to mention something called "mystery game" that was a cheaper version of lue found at the 99 cent store (it was about 2 dollars, if I remember correctly). The most interesting part of it is that it was made by Parker Brothers, so it was an... official? bootleg? If you want photos I can probably take them, I think it might still be in our game closet because we found it hilarious
There's no way there were no Monopoly bootlegs. It's pretty much the biggest board game ever.
I actually own a Thai bootleg Monopoly. The box art shows pictures of several pieces that the game doesn't actually contain.
I started CRYING at legally distinct Private with glasses and Kowalski with a hat 😭😭
7:52 "Now with careers chosen by kids!"
That's just the plot of Ed Edd n' Eddy innit
Always a good sign when the game board and the box disagree about the name of the game. Triple points when the _advertising_ reveals the discrepancy.
Re: "Chess", "chess board", "chess pieces"; apparently Chinese has a specific character, "Qi" (棋) for strategy games (that don't involve cards), and by adding to this character you get the generic terms for "game board" and "board game piece". Chess is naturally one of many "qi", and apparently the default machine translation, which a competent human copywriter would have to recognize and replace.
Interestingly, Chinese _does_ actually have a generic term for "board game" (literally "map game"), but apparently no one copywriting at Temu or AliExpress uses that word for some reason.
Copy editing costs money, and no one buying these game will care anyway
I knew it was a mistranslation, I could just tell
Oh my god, I remember my parents buying me that specific brand of battlevessel many years ago. I enjoyed it until about the 3rd match when those brittle plastic pieces started breaking down once I tried to remove them from the board.
okay but the penguin/duck/frog from penguin/duck/frog trap are cute tho
Blockus is so fun actually. It fits into the age group that most of these games do, but for the slightly older sibling. I remember playing it in the "gifted kid" class in high school, along with those weird tessellation puzzles. It's a good game to play with a younger cousin that's hit the age of being too cool to play with the younger kids at a family party and you want to be the cool auntie/uncle because you don't want to spend time with the adults either.
........ this sounds like a niche yet universal experience
You could do a whole episode on monopoly bootlegs.
Hell, Disney made one.
The connect4 chess board is actually pretty cool for travelling. My parents have one for ages
this guy sounds like huggbees with just a less deeper voice
i found a couple bootlegs in a game store once, a bootleg of guess who called “identiwho” and a bootleg of connect 4 called “join 4”
5:46 smiling friends reference lol
I remember going to the Dollar Store not that long ago and finding a whole shelf of bootleg board games. My favourite one was The Mystery Game (that was the actual title), which was a bootleg of Clue. The weirdest thing was that the game wasn't made by a Chinese company trying to pass itself off as the real deal, but rather it was made by Mattel.
EXTREMELY disappointed you did not covered Wilco's classic lineup of existential board games, with names such as "Who am I" and "Don't Torment Me"
I had Mr. Mouth when I was little, that was one of my favorite board games as a kid. I liked how the eyes would spin when the mouth shut. Little did I know that games like Mr. Mouth would put me down the board game pipeline and funnel my earnings into buying premium cardboard. Damn you Mr. Mouth. Damn you to hell.
The break the ice segment is one of the funniest things on RUclips
I like how I can now see TCFNA:TDQ:40-43 and immediately associate it to a board game rather than some sort of nuclear code or Soviet gun model
Bold video of you to make since you have, in fact, stolen my heart
We have a don't break the ice clone, it's called "save the bee" and it's vertical rather than being a table.
I’m certain that bootleggers aren’t even human
To be fair, Battleship wasn't invented by Milton Bradley. It was a pen & paper game from the early 20th century, & several companies made their own versions before MB came out with their version.
I'm also fairly sure Headbands is a variation on an old parlor game.
Chess is apparently used as a generic word for game in China.
Trouble is just a variation on Pachizi or Ludo. It was designed in the 60's, I believe, so I'm sure the patents are probably expired by now. In fact, that's probably true of most of these games. By now, people should be allowed to copy them; that's the point of patents expiring.
Blocus is a fairly new game; it may be the exception to my statement above.
When I delivered milk a few years back they had this one Veggie shop that used to get lots of "interesting items", I treied to look for this online and couldn't find it but it was a rip off of Battleships, It had the usual guff, but it had an image of all the ships lined up on the side and then one BIG Ship, like "Look at this realistic ship", only it wasn't a ship it was a Grey D*ldo. I am serious they had somehow copy pasted a grey d*ldo on the box and it wasn't even a submarine, well not sure, but I think it was trying to be a Cruiser... I pointed it out to the store owner and he just laughed... but didn't take it off the stand it was on...
So yeah... I tried to look for it online, but couldn't find it, this was circa 2009-10 from memory. The owner was a funny Vietnamese guy, some of his comments, well, I can't repeat them but yeah he had so many weird things on sale, like the shop was Fruit and Veg for 90% of the floor space, but the counter was loaded with International Phone cards, kids toys, chocolate bars etc, then in the corner was where he had the milk which I delivered and stocked the shelf. Then there were all these stands with just a ton of knock off travel sized games, knock of action figures and stuff I am not even sure about.
That store was also where i first saw self heating drinks, those blew my mind... Sorry rambling, that store was crazy, sadly it's gone now.
EDIT: just to Clarify I'm 99% sure therewas NOT a d*ldo in the box itself, the IMAGE on the box was a D*ldo and it was just on the back, the front was a cartoony sorta image ripping off the image on the offical Battleships mostly, just with bad cropping. The back had the board in the centre with the peices beside the board and then on one side it had words like "Super Real Boat Model" or something similar and then where it SHOULD have been a close up of the ship peice it was just a d*ldo. I would collect money on Wednesday's and he had customers so I just picked it up and started reading all the spelling mistakes and incomplete sentences and then saw it there and burst out laughing.
i dont even like playing board games, but your channel has recently become one that i look forward to watching every time i see a new upload. keep it up man!
this felt like a scott the woz video in the best way possible
“Rock? I Lose!? What are you on about, mate?” /ref
Hasbro:”I have got too many enemies!”
Spin master:”me too!”
Mattel:”Me three!”
Hasbro:”I wanna stop my horrible enemies!!!”

A bootleg of Connect 4 Shots
Alright but no one comments on that absolutely uncalled for "Mr Frog" bit. Truly a master in comedy you are Mr SamWidge.
Every video you make is getting better and better, and always appreciate the Smiling Friends references!
It feels like he's trying to be more like Scott the Woz with every video.
poorly translated bootlegs are my favorite genre of items. you get gems like a pacifier labeled as "nipple" (something i found at an amazon returns store.)
Im amazed how funny and creative your videos are.
you feel like the scott the woz of board games and i love it
Fun Fact: I have the game at 11:57 (although the box is beaten up and the penguin's nose is wrapped in tape because it got broken0 and yes, same penguin, same box, and same "Penguin Jrap' label.
I have the Japanese version of Funny Game Penguin Trap Activate, so these bootlegs are available in many languages around the world. The downward spiral is endless.
My idea of a penguin trap would probably be an .iso with no man pages. Good luck!
My old hand me down copy of Don't Break the Ice had a solid red color dude sitting in a chair. Just vibing on the ice flats.
I guess the polar bear from your version ate him
While trying to find a Plants Vs Zombies board game that probably doesn't exist I came across a listing of "17Pcs Plants and Zombies Figures Toys, PAZ Figurines Cake Topper Cupcake Decorative Toys for Kids". I will probably be seeing those in my nightmares.
I have owned the Mini Connect 4 over 10 years ago. It's an ancient design.
This video is so funny I'm glad I had a kamsamwitch.
I had an older version of don't break the ice which had a 2x2 square that a red old man sat on.
Ah yes boot leg board games that were made with Google Translate and drugs.
🅱️ichard
Every videos, Scott the Woz’s influence is heightened
Edit: WAS THAT A MF DOWNWARD SPIRAL REFERENCE??????

It’s simple, I see a kamsandwich video, I like the video
The hexagonal Don’t Break the Ice bootlegs have better strategy than the square ones
There's a Penguin Trap game in Japan (titled Penguin Trap, in English)--differently shaped board and penguin figure than any of these, but the box has the exact same penguin image as Funny Game Penguin Trap Activate. Where does one bootleg end and next begin...
Bichard is my spirit animal
Wait - I actually played "Who am i?" As a kid, I didn't even know it was a bootleg???
Not into board games whatsoever but I’m loving your videos! Keep up the good work boss!
I literally just woke up from a dream involving going to a college campus’ second hand store and all of their board games were offbrands, so I guess they can predict the future after all
Bros the Scott the Woz of board games
i bet that the penguin games are from the same chinese producer and they just varied the shape and color a bit so they can sell it to dropshippers and people selling it elsewhere in shops.
3:01 D the Chevalour of I forgot BRAVE IN!
you are the best background videos.
Oh boy I love me some Classic Twist Music!
Had a weird bootleg Polish monopoly once, it was weird.
9:17 i like how its juts life, the only thing they changed was the name on the box
I've heard there is a market for selling bootleg versions of yet unreleased kickstarter games
While I've never gotten any bootleg games from stores, I have experimented with trying to make my own takes on games that are out of print and expensive on ebay using rules available online, card stock, plastic cubes, and my general money token set, with the hope that a reprint down the road will save me the trouble of actually using it.
5:46 I see what you did there, Kam
I fucking love Bichard.
Been a while since I thought about Blokus, I always sucked at that game.
I never played any of those versions of Don't Break the Ice, but it did remind me of a board game from when I was a kid where you would use a tissue to act as a sheet of ice and then drop wet marbles on top of it, attempting to not be the person that makes the marbles fall through the tissue. No idea if it was a bootleg of Don't Break the Ice or its own thing entirely.
Laughing at bichard that one was too good
9:50 at first I thought "huh?? wait is the poler bear one i have a bootleg?!?"
nope. huh, wonder when they changed that- maybe we just got an older edition at that flea market? dunno
Can you make a video about games made by Exploding Kittens (exploding kittens, throw throw burrito, etc.)
i dont even play board games, i dont even know how the fuck am i having fun with all your videos. you just got a sub, keep up good work
God damn it, Bichard!
This is truly an amazing exposee. Amazing in that we could quite possibly never figure out how all this actually exists and gets sold. It's as if the AI that makes 8 fingered hands was let loose on board games
