What a brilliant mod for the airfilter problem , make it look stock for all the rivet counter, Hat of to you Sir

I had a D14-4. some years ago. I padded the flywheels. Ported the chambers & fitted a George tod head. A 376 monoblock carb. I made a expansion chamber exhaust. The bike was quite fast but ended up snapping the crankshaft. After that i fitted a Villiers twin 2T 250 engine & it ran great for over a year. Thanks for sharing Mr Twed.

It sure was. I got a few admiring comments with that bike. Brakes coped well too, as did the suspension. I used to have quite a few 2T & 4T engine back then. I wish i still had them. @@TweedsGarage

I've never owned a Bantam, always liked them though, I started on Tiger Cubs in the 60's, passed my test on my mate's D14 though, it was brand new, I thought it would impress the examiner more than my ratty Cub! anyway, the screws and fasteners in those days were Cadmium plated, but that's been outlawed now, bright zinc is close enough....cheers, Dave

Mz made basically exactly the same air filter setup as your conversion and having owned several I have never encountered any issues with oil contamination.
The smaller mz's are basically metric bantams anyway.
Edit, actually bantams are imperial mz's given dkw designed the original engine and they were metric.
That's handy to know, I know MZ cranks have been used in Bantams ( they can't be any worse )
It really is excellent having the equipment to make just about anything. It fills you with warmth, joy and good feelings. Then the day comes where you need unobtanium screws. And you know you want them. And you know you can make them. The first one is interesting.........................and so you grit your teeth and go at it. And later on, after it's done, you declare it was fun. And it was. Sort of. Certainly an achievement. Well done sir!
once you work out the work process and get into it the time just flys by and like you say Stuart a sense of achievement when the job is done.
It's true - running a process can actually be very rewarding and soothing. It's time at the lathe - and you know that YOU MADE THOSE PARTS!!!! Making things is so cool.

I'm going to have to figure out how to slot those screws coming off my lathe too.
If you don’t have access to a mill an old engineering trick is two fine tooth hacksaw blades together in a hacksaw and cut your slots that way ( a bit tedious I'll grant you )

You need to go back and restudy your Allo Allo before attempting Ze German accent again. Or better yet, Dr Stranglove! I think I will need to split the crank on my Velocette so that is most useful to see. And jet engines you say? I am trying not to get distracted from my Riley (don't mention the Coventry Climax Randahl!) but I might have a little jet project in the works. Nothing flyable but it should make the right noises!

Would not use silicone inside the motor on stuffer plates.....petrol will soon have that off and may loove the plates loos.
Petrol kills silicone in no time.....turns it to goo.
Would have thought.....main air gap taken up by just the plates sitting on there mating faces.....yes a tiny bit of air may leak.....but not volumes.
I just left mine out on my B175.....would like to try with and with out.....but goes fine with out....and the cant fail if not there.
I just used alan bolts for my cases....chromed.....I think?....but look great.....easy to get out when needed.
Amazing models about these days.....that F16 was stunning.

Yes I think you'd be wise to stock up on timber Bill, there's been so much rain that the drive and the vehicles on it are covered in moss and they are used regularly !!!!!

Its a fine woven material sandwiched between a fine mesh a bit like K & N air filters
