    I have my grandfather's old bench grinder, he bought it in the 1970's, dubious quality and I have had it for about 30 years and used it less than a handful of times. You have inspired me to re-purpose this as you have done - mine wanders as well, but has holes for screwing down - thanks for this Allan! Always a source of inspiration!

    @colinwellman9480 День назад

    It might have been a crap grinder but at least it was solidly made and not plastic! You made a great improvement to it. At one time I worked in a factory that ground forgings, all by hand. The lads were all taught to check the grinding wheel before fitting. As I'm sure you know if you tap them they ring if OK and if not you get a dull sound. The wheels were 2' x 2" and one shattered, narrowly missing the operator and passing clean through a large oil drum filled with water. He later admitted he hadn't checked it. Soon after that we moved over to linishing belts, dearer but safer. Even today I stand back when turning my bench grinder on. Elf and safety who needs it.🤕

    Using the spare bench grinder as a wire brush/abrasive mop is a very good idea, you may find it much safer to use with the guards removed as now you have no tool rest objects can easily enter the gap, it also makes the wheel much better to use on large metal bits that you are cleaning up, just like a buffing mop with full access, the only problem with this is the amount of rust and general crud that get flung around the workshop, so I have mine mounted on a frame that I can take outside, the wheels that you took off should be broken to prevent them ever being mounted on a grinder as they are very dangerous as they are. The 1/2" BSP refers to the bore of the pipe it is used on, much like the way people will insist on calling a 6 mm hex bolt a 10 mm as they are referring to the size of the head AF and not the shank. Stay safe! Chris B.

    • @TweedsGarage
      @TweedsGarage День назад

      bench grinders do throw the rubbish around, even worse when you dress the wheels, taking it outside is a good idea and fear not Chris those old wheels won't be used again. All the Best

    Great job in resurrecting the bench grinder. One point of contention. It's your knees that separate us from the monkeys. Never seen a monkey with knees like that. Spectacular!😂 Just a friendly tip from one hobbyist to another, regarding BSP threads. Pipe threads are determined by the INTERNAL dimension of the pipe or the fittings bore. This would be the pertinent dimension when calculating flow rates etc.

    I Removed the carbs off my f3 and the the return spring disappeared! Looked for ages couldn’t find it anywhere. I had a spare set of carbs so used the spring off them . Refitted the carb back on after a refurb and the engine was only running on 3 cylinders , after a while I removed the carbs again checked them over seemed ok. After a few hours checking things I appeared down the intake’s to find that the choke spring had dropped into no3 and jammed between one of the valve and seat . After a while trying to pull it out to my horror it dropped onto the piston😡. Engine out strip down I thought!! Anyway I made a hook on a piece of welding wire and fished it out I couldn’t believe it came out. 😮. How it hadn’t dropped into the cylinder when I was running it I’ll never know. I refitted the carbs and all good .

The ultrasonic action generates heat, so no need for the heater when in use. I also have a small ultrasonic cleaner next to it. Ideal and obviously cheaper to run for just small items.

It did not live up to my expectations, did a fair job, not the perfect results that all the hype seemed to show. In the end, I got fed up with it, used a fair bit but when I had to resort to brake cleaner to finish things off I thought time to get rid (now I just use brake cleaner) and sold it on - during the time I had it, a couple of years, prices had gone up for the new ones, so got most of the purchase price back, so not too bad! I always keep the packaging so things can be sold on boxed when I am finished with items. Good luck with yours.

    Nice piece of kit MrT. Thereby hangs a tale. My late father back in the sixties got together with a friend who had a radio shed and tons of radio shortwave stuff and a transmitting set. Heaven for a young lad. He got 3 transducers and between them converted my father's old surgical steriliser into a cleaner just to see. Plastic syringes etc were beginning to replace the old needles and glass syringes. Sharpening the needles each week on a stone is another story. Having the tray emerge when opening the lid was a bonus. Sort of worked for small stuff then they lost interest leaving me with the steriliser. Perfect working order, mega chrome finish and made in the thirties. Amazing how theraputic for memory health is MrT. Best wishes as ever thanks for posting. But if I don't film hours of me cleaning grimy garbage, what would I do for content? Another big time RUclipsr trying to put me out of business. Cheers and all the best from a loyal viewer in a shed...

    I've never regretted buying mine. Mine is smaller (no comments from Jenkins!) but it cleans very well for bike parts. When I worked for a living i had access to a large ultrasonic cleaner made by Bransons who were one of the leaders at the time. In those days we knew nothing about the fact it was filled with Trich and the effect on the environment. I'd recommend getting some Wicks No Nonsense detergent. It's cheap and really effective. I fill mine with hot water to save time and make sure I don't put plastic bits in. The plastic stops the cavitation working as it should. I can't remember the science but it was something Bransons always looked at if we had cleaning problems and called them in to advise. Thanks for the video, I quite like the short ones as well as the 'feature' length ones.

      Ah Trich.......the days when you could smuggle it home in jars for use around the shed...I shall avoid plastic and search out the Wickes detergent.

      @@TweedsGarage Right product name, wrong supplier. It came from Screwfix - 'No Nonsense Degreaser'. Nearly as good as Trich;🤭

    I bought one and it's the best thing since sliced bread, except i don't like sliced bread but otherwise it's fine. Doesn't make parts sparkle like new but certainly cleans them acceptably

    Implosion of cavitation bubbles. Had one 20 years 2 litre capacity for small items. Gets rid of the crud around rings/jewellery etc.
