- The Stelvio is Alfa Romeo’s compact SUV. For 2023 Alfa Is continuing to bring ultimate performance with the Quadrifoglio. Under the hood is a 2.9L twin-turbo V6 pumping out 505HP & mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. On the outside you will find the seductive Italian style Alfa brings. I think a lot of that hate for Alfa comes from old school Chrysler people. They think thats the reason Chryslers reliability has gotten worse. Just like with the Dart Alfa gave Dodge a good platform to work with and they fumbled the ball yet again. Its no secret Chrsyler is known for reliability issue with electrical and suspension. Ive driven the early model police charger to the new awd model. All have had suspension issues at low mileage and ours are supposed to beefed up. All vehicles have issues but it also comes down to maintenance most people do not even do routine maintenance then get online complaining knowing someone will give them validation by agreeing with them basically being sheep.
I just picked up my 2023 full loaded. The warranty was really good. I leased it for two years so not worried bout reliability but glad those who are do.
Since getting my 2020 Stelvio QV couple months back, I have literally stopped listening to radio and anything else, except for the engine sound. That should tell you how addictive the driving experience is.
These are not cars you buy new for 90k but if you find a clean one 2-3 years old with 15k miles for 65k you can’t beat it.

QVs have astounding power and speed, couldn't believe it when I drove one! Our little Giulia isn't a QV but she overperforms in her own right. With that said, there's a lot that needs updating and that screen is a horror story but I still love the exterior styling. Since I have an Alfa, I guess I'd get a Macan but damn the QVs are fast. Great episode guys!!!
Green is my favorite color and this is an attractive one to look at. Both suvs pack a punch behind the wheel but it’s hard to choose which is better
I would go Macan GTS
The Stelvio is quite a bit less in actual $. Most things are standard on the Stelvio, but Porsche does not, and their ala carte option list is brutally expensive. Also the Porsche dealer greed is horrendous, good luck finding a GTS or S for anywhere near sticker. The Stelvio is easily found for sticker, and sometimes less. 2022’s are at least $10k off.

The engine was designed by Ferrari engineers. While it uses Stellantis switchgear to cut costs, the vehicle is made in Italy.

As an Alfa owner (I currently own a Giulia) I cannot say enough good things about Alfa’s new vehicles since coming back into the US. I am debating, at some point, to go from the Giulia (Ti Sport) to a Stelvio Quad so I can enjoy the full performance while keeping the all wheel drive (for winters).
For 90k, you'd think it'd be a zonk-free vehicle.
Everybody has different opinions some people think this is perfect with zero flaws others think this car is trash and everything wrong with it

After owning a 22 Giulia Veloce for 6 months I would totally buy one of these if I could afford one. The Giulia has been one of if not the most "fun" car to drive that I've owned and Joe you know what I've had in the past. I could only imagine how amazing a QV/QF would be to drive. The Macan S has always been one of my obtainable dream cars but since getting an Alfa I'd totally take this over the Porsche.
Love the green color. An insane vehicle given the speed limits we have. This has twice the horsepower one would ever need.

10000% I just purchased a 23 Macan GTS and at first I was like, "I don't want to step back to analog gauges." Now, I love it. It feels more special and very "Porsche" like. I think the all new fully digital everything is already dated and annoying.

Great video, I personally loved it, but more than anything, its a work of art driven for pleasure and practicality. One tiny correction though; I suppose you meant 3.8 seconds, because only the 600+ bhp super SUVs can achieve these times.

As far as a refresh, the 2024s which I’m told will be on US dealer lots by summer, have new tri-matrix smart adaptive headlights, new taillights, refreshed front bumper and new digital dash.
Joe, why buy a Maserati Grecale? When this is the same SUV. Also, it is a great alternative to the new Ferrari SUV. I own one of these ( not the QV) and its been a super vehicle. Great review Joe.

Love the looks and performance Joe! The lack of interior tech and that awful infotainment system would prevent me from buying it. Just throw in U Connect 5 like they did in the Grecale. Same vehicle. Thanks for bringing it to us.
You must be a millennial. Wtf are you going to do in 3 yrs when the tech of any vehicle you buy is outdated? Tech always gets outdated and unless you want to spend a shit ton of money all over again every 2-3 years just because of tech, it’s just no big thing. Use Apple CarPlay and not worry.

I can totally understand where you are coming from.
Loved your segment! I have a 2022 Stelvio Veloce which has the 4 cylinder turbo but has everything else your test car has and it was $30k plus less. Love the care but hate the size of the infotainment screen. However I do like the control knob on the center console that controls it. I do like the two analog dials and I do like the screen that separates the dial however I don’t like the functionality or different screen options. The seats are very firm and snug which I’m ok with but the sides are so high and stiff that it’s not an easy exit. As much as I love my Alfa Romeo, at the end of the day if I were to spend $90k on a car I would probably go with the Macan.

With Stellantis recently debuting the Maserati Grecale Trofeo, the Stelvio Q needs a significant refresh, especially in the interior amenities, infotainment and luxury. (Can't wait for your review and comparison impressions.) As for fit and finish and likely handling, you gotta lean Macan. As for engine power, response and sound, you gotta like the Alfa and Maserati.

I’d choose Alfa because is more reliable, more performance focused, better driving experience, better design, I like the premium but yet sport focused interiors more than the Sunday daddy’s son interior of the Porche, and the sound of Alfa is just the best, and the 1000 Watts Harman Kardon is very clear and powerful.
Alfa Romeo is the real deal here. That stunning color and it’s definitely quick on its wheels. Hot rod Raiti!
Totally agree with you Joe on all the zonks! Stellantis definitely needs to up their game. I had the 2017 Giulia when it first came out, and the interior, dash, infotainment, etc on this Stelvio are almost the same, so definitely looking dated to me. Great vehicle, but it needs updating.

I am driving a Porsche Macan Turbo.
Everybody says i am insane switching to the stelvio quadrofolio. Because of the Alfa reputation (lot's of electronic problems, and it is true).
But to be honest, it is such a beauty. And when I drive my sons Giulia, i always want to change to the Stelvio.
But Porsche is absolute German quality. So robust. And also fast. A brand on its own.
Maybe some day i am insane and switch. Who will tell
And yes... a luxury problem. I know. I am not complaining
And I live 3 kms from the German border. No speed limit in Germany on the highway

The Stelvio is gorgeous and it drives amazing but it has some details that make me think and re think about spending 92,000 + dollars.

I test drove this exact model a couple months ago, it was a beast, but lacked in the technology area. For the same money, I bought an Audi RS5 and while it’s not quite the hp and torque number of the Julio it’s crazy fast and has the technology a 2023 should have. Yes, I have the Carbon Fiber, DRC, etc. packages.

With 500 hp from 2.9 liter (and Italian reliability) my concern would be the durability of the engine. And my choice would be the Macan. Unique green, what a relief not having to look at gray, black or white paint. Thankfully the info centre is integrated in the dashboard.

The regular Stelvio uses their 2.0 L TBI-M T4 Multiair turbo I4 engine. That is a pretty good engine. The Multi-air engine has about a 10% advantage over any other IC engine ,because it has a software controlled electrohydraulic intake valve system. It's very clever and only Fiat brands can use the patent. The big engine doesn't have nearly as many units made per year, so might not be so great in terms of reliability. Reliability in mechanical systems is usually found in long running productions where all the bugs get worked out over time. Specialty products are never as good; the fancy BMW's with big engines are notoriously bad.

Have owned 2 Stelvios. Will get another one when my lease runs out. Have had zero issues and years of great joy with these gorgeous suvs. I absolutely love the Stelvio. Owned a 911 for 10 years and I have had as much fun with the Stelvio. Personally, the Macan didn't do it for me.

I don't know why we're so obsessed with SUVs in this country. This offers nothing that my sedan doesn't, and compromises a lot IMO. Bring wagons back if you want extra cargo room.

90 K seemed a bit high until I heard thr numbers. 0-60mph in 3.2sec is a feet of achievement for an ICE SUV.

Have a Macan GTS….other than the drive, which can be exilerating in both ……there is no comparison when you come to quality of product….oh and I have ventilated seats and hud. Lol. Nice review and you called it right….feels cheap inside when you get to looking around. Keep it up.

I agree with for that price tag needs head up display , better clear camera and 360, particular this car looks better with analog, no digital stuff , the infotainment and front lights need updated which is coming for the last model on the 2024 models

@Raiti's Rides there's been Leake videos from Italy of the QV Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Guilia on Verde Montreal paint the 🍀 logo change, they put the digital technology of tonale and updated infotainment, more better camera , tonale led lights, clear taillights which looks more aggressive and sport, was a extra charge on previous models tons of carbon fiber on grilled and mirrors, don't know about head up display I hope but I'm pretty sure is not there because that means spending money in reconfigure the dash to insert that feature and we now stellantis their going electri they won't go crazy in spending at outgoing model. We have to see in a few months.

Love the styling, but I wonder what the redesign will be like. Alfas are always controversial, so I hope they can keep up the momentum built back in 2017.
And for $10k more, I’d be looking at the Denali Ultimate or GMC Hummer SUV. The value proposition just doesn’t make sense at this price point, especially when a four year old one is the same exact vehicle for probably half the price.

I know it's not really in Alfa's DNA to do so, but I would love to see a luxury 3-row based on the Grand Cherokee L.
That would be interesting but never would it sell.
The Dodge parts don’t really bother me. If you think about it, Hellcats are going for $100k and those are Dodges. So I don’t think the knobs etc are a big deal. What I don’t get is how they can use the knobs, but not the Uconnect system that Dodge has which is one of the best in the industry. That baffles my mind.
Additionally, the fact that they did away with the white color exterior, carbon fiber exterior package, yellow caliper option, and the interior colors is a real bummer as well. Some color combos look better with different calipers.
Still torn between the 2 cars. I think with Porsche you get more luxury, better technology, an air suspension that can get aggressive but also be comfortable, and of course reliability. With the Alfa though you get a Ferrari engine, precise steering, and it will keep you guessing on whether or not that Check Engine light will show up if you push it too hard lol…just kidding. I honestly don’t know which way I would go. I like the fact that the Alfa is more rare. You don’t see many of them on the road, whereas you see a bunch of Macan’s. Maybe not GTS but other models.
I think you can’t go wrong with either one, but if I were to go with the Alfa, I would make sure to get it on a discount (there are some dealers out there selling them for $77-$80k brand new), and get that extended warranty.
