@Hoovy Simulator 2 I theorized about this a while ago. Judging on the diagram of the portal gun, you'd need an object the size of Mars to be condensed small enough to fit inside of the portal gun to the same size as we see in said diagram.
Imagining an iteration of HL2:EP3 where this is what Gordon would have found aboard the Borealis. Like he stumbles across it and accidentally disturbs the incredibly unstable core, causing it to start melting down and Gordon has to escape before it obliterates the ship or something like that. Or the combine beat him to it and mistakenly set off the meltdown themselves wiping out a small fleet while they're transporting it back to one of their superstructures, and Gordon has to do something to contain the ensuing aftermath before it threatens to annihilate the earth.

What was stated in the description is in fact not what would happen if a portal gun were to fail. a black hole of that size wouldn't be able to exist on its own because of how small it is, hence why its in the ring singularity harness which keeps it open. Instead, upon the failure of the Ring singularity harness, it would either calmly close or perhaps collapse in on itself, resulting in an explosion that heavily damages anything within the immediate vicinity, which the event horizon estimation wheel is likely designed to determine the radius of. This has likely happened multiple times throughout the ASHPD's development and testing. Its probably been dropped into goo, incinerated or shattered by a fall before the Long fall boots were invented, which would definitely cause a portal gun failure
This could be cool for a game. Just while wandering through ruined areas you hear this broken single portal device fire a portal opens up on the wall and you are brought into a dilapidated (pre portal 2, post portal 1) testing track, slowly working your way through to find what has happened, and your freedom. Alternatively you could press a button to try to fire it, and destroy the entire world.
Ok level idea The broken portal gun can only shoot one portal with a small charge up at a time with it having to be manually switched at certain stations as well that it can't pick up objects but to counter this since it so unstable some portals can be created on special surfaces for a short amount of time I'd like to imagine the maps would need to be cleared in ways that the test did not originally plan for sorta like the fused levels Weatly made What does anyone think?
as an idea, (cool concept ngl, would be cool for a mod that utilizes non-portal gun puzzles) you could add it so if it were to be fired; the portal generator of sort within the glass chamber would more or less explode outward, and create random portals in different areas or just cause a random teleportation of the viewer
if there is a portal 3 coming that would be a great addition. (plot plan (made by me) after a big fall you lose the portal gun however you find it again in a bunch of goo. you pick it up and its in an unstable state you use the last of its power to get up out of the hole and then talk to a robot or glados to fix it) its a lot I know lol

Is it just me or do the noises sound like the ones from Tunneler Roblox? The noise when the Fizzler is broken or you touch water in setlevel devtest
if there is a portal 3 coming that would be a great addition. (plot plan (made by me) after a big fall you lose the portal gun however you find it again in a bunch of goo. you pick it up and its in an unstable state you use the last of its power to get up out of the hole and then talk to a robot or glados to fix it) its a lot I know lol
PORTAL 4
Would’ve been cool to see something like this in portal 2
