Nice video guys. I hope you get a chance to revisit in the summer. Everything looks so different during the different seasons.
And thank you for exploring while you're in the UK. I've known many US service families who've been stationed in the UK (some of whom are now family) and you'd be amazed at how few of them bothered to meet any locals or saw any of the little cultural and historical details that were around them. Thank you for making an effort to experience and understand the natives. :-)

Well done in finding the churches , it just goes to show how big the population used to be in the area

Some of it is probably down to a shift in the dynamic over the last 150 years or so. Once over, churches were seen as the absolute hub of the community, and most had strong congregations. Times change, the motor car came along. People sometimes live in more spread locations now.

The Broads area was once very rich owing to sheep wool. Tudor early Jacobean time, When that dipped heavily, the area became poor!

East Anglia was one of the most prosperous and heavily populated areas of the UK in medieval times. It’s really odd nowadays to come across such huge churches in tiny hamlets.

Great to see you managed to nip up to the Broads. There is soooooo much more to see and enjoy. By the way, they don’t do narrow boats on the broads, but cruisers. Hope you manage to get one. They hire 8 seater day cruisers at Wroxham. It has an onboard galley to make a cup of tea and a toilet for those little life necessities. My suggestion would be to hire one from there for the day and potter down the river, via Wroxham and Salhouse broads (mini lakes), to Horning or a bit further to Ranworth Broad. It is easier to moor up at Horning than Ranworth if you are not too experienced with boats. Moor up and have a midday meal and a beer at one of the pubs. Then a slow potter back up the river to Wroxham. There are speed limits on the broads so you can’t go too fast. The trip from Wroxham to Horning takes about 1 hour 30 minutes if you take is quite slow, depending on which way the tide is going. So if you pick your boat up around 10am..get to Horning or Ranworth by 12.00 ish. Have a walk around and a nice meal (carvery at the Ferry Inn is usually good) then a dozy slow potter back to Wroxham to take the boat back by, I think from memory, about 17.00. Make sure you take a loaf of bread to feed the ducks and swans at Salhouse broad. Some ducks are so tame, they will jump up on the side of the boat to be fed. You will also be able to hand feed the swans too as they will reach up to take the bread from your hand. People say don’t feed the birds bread, but I have been going to the Broads since the 1960’s and they are still there. 🤷🏼‍♂️ All in all, if the weather is good, I think you will enjoy a pleasant day out. Take the kids and let them “drive” the boat too. By the way, keep to the right side of the river when “driving” along and yachts have priority. Thanks for the video…Sn00py.

Just so! I was just about to say myself that narrowboats are what you have on the canals, which involves getting through locks, on the broads what you need is a 'lowboat' ;-) to get past the low bridges! Day hire I would go electric, as it makes it way more peaceful cruising around. But a week on the broads is pretty inexpensive, as of course it includes accomodation on the boat, and is a great way to enjoy that marvellous place.

What a brilliant tour, definitely one of your best! You must have a broads cruise one day, but take the kids as they would love it. Narrow boats are for canals, but I'm sure you can hire a cruiser, or take an organised tour. I have a wonderful memory of a day on the Broads, with my late wife Jacky and dear little Bonnie, our Pom. Thanks for posting.

That plateful Chris had looked fabulous, as did your jacket potato Jess. I'm getting the impression it wouldn't take too much for you to move here for good if the opportunity ever presented itself.... I had a week on the Broads in 2001, in a hired boat. Very nice. I loved the old churches, really spoilt for choice as there are so many of them dotted around . Out of interest I googled Norfolk Churches and found a site that has so far documented and photographed an incredible 922 of them and still counting. Such a shame that many of them are now in ruins and going back to nature but there would never be enough time and money to save them all.

Another lovely video. As you're finding out, Norfolk has more mediaeval churches than anywhere else in England. It's because Norfolk is out of the way and not on the way to the north as the counties in the midlands are. When Henry VIII was destroying the churches, his henchmen couldn't be bothered to detour into Norfolk so many more survived here. Anyway, enjoyed your video as always. Weather has been dreadfully wet, even for England, this winter but fingers crossed we will get a better summer.

Great music and journey. The last time I went to the Broads was around 40 years ago and it had a plague of greenfly. They were everywhere. Around that time the UK had a plague of ladybirds. We love the Norfolk Broads. We discovered the area only about 10 years ago, but it has become our go-to place for a relaxing holiday. By boat though. I don’t think you can get a full appreciation of the Broads from land.
So, I would encourage you to try out a boating holiday. One tip…don’t be tempted by a boat that has a high air-draft if you want to experience some of the quieter stretches of the rivers. There are some quite low bridges that the taller boats can’t get under. The weather also has an effect on how high the rivers get.
A health warning though…boating on the Norfolk Broads can get seriously addictive. We enjoy it so much we now have a share in a syndicate boat (our boat has 12 owners). One of our shares is owned by an American family who previously worked for a time in Norwich (England) but who still return each year for their Broads ‘fix’.
If you have any sailing experience, the most ‘authentic’ experience would be to hire a yacht from Hunter’s Yard. They hire out a fleet of boats that were built in the 1930s/1940s. They are very ‘easy’ boats to sail (if you have some experience). If you have read Arthur Ransom’s ‘Coot Club’, the experience of sailing a Hunter’s boat is as close as you can get to that experience.

@@DaydreamersBarn same here I’m from the uk but have lived all over and now settled down here. And I understand it’s got it’s imperfections but where else can you have the rolling farmland one direction the fen’s and broads the other historical city’s and towns and so many different varieties of beachfront. Equally it’s not very regular it’s vlogged so for people like yourself’s who enjoy that your content is not drowning with other people’s. Can’t beat Suffolk and Norfolk in my book 😁👌🏻. If you haven’t already you need to go see lavenham Suffolk it’s beautiful 👍🏻 and the crooked house is there “it was harry potter’s parents home in the films and was the inspiration for the nursery rhyme there was a crooked man re made famous in the second conjuring film for it’s creepiness” 😁👌🏻. The village has so much more than that to offer but il let you discover that if you choose to go. 😁 all the best Warren

Hello to you. Sometimes the journey is a major part of reaching a destination. Not been to the states but I would imagine there are areas and places where the pace of life is a little slower. Is that a welcome change. Some of the parishes are tiny and serving a dwindling regular congregation. Churches are usually open public spaces for quiet contemplation and function as community hubs for village events and necessary church restorations. Life in a slow lane can give you time to look around and dream a little. Hope you see our villages in many seasons. Wishing you happy travels. If you live here now, welcome to you. I imagine the pace of life might be very different for you, or perhaps you have lived a rural life. Enjoy.

You are correct, there are places where the pace is slower in the US, specifically the rural area, as you mentioned. We have seen all of the seasons in the villages here so far and enjoy them all in their own right. We do enjoy the slower pace too. It doesn't matter what country, the pace can say a lot about someone. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers, Chris and Jess.

Great video guys. You definitely have to go back in the summer and take the Mississippi paddle boat cruise down the River Bure from Horning. Its a lovely leisurely way to see some of what I think is the most picturesque river in the broads. Horning is a beautiful quaint village with a great pub called The Swann. Perfect for a cold beer and a pub lunch or alternatively a perfect place to sit and have picnic on the riverbank on a warm day and just watch all the boats go by. The norfolk broads go back to the 12th century when they dug all the peat out for fuel. Apparently the Romans enitially started it two thousands years ago when they also dug the peat out for fuel. Yes, hire a boat out if you can on the broads, i didnt realise how big they were when i explored them, they go right into yarmouth. I love watching you two exploring our countryside and really appreciating it, i suppose we just take it for granted. spring is lovely when everything bursts into life, and Autumn is lovely as well it has a mystic about it. Look forward to the next one.

The name for birds of prey is Raptor. The Norfolk Broads are man made, created by medieval peat digging that was flooded. Lovely daffodils, waiting for the beautiful bluebells as they herald summer is on the way. I live in Norfolk and have frequented the Broads, mostly on the northern side of the river Yare. Plenty of places do day boats, Wroxham being a popular place. Barton Broad is the place Lord Nelson learnt to sail, whilst playing truant from School. Its North of Wroxham, on the way to Stalham. Also in that area is Neatishead Radar Museum also worth a visit, especially as is has military history (Was RAF Neatishead). Enjoy.

The Norfolk Broads are absolutely stunning guys... There's a RUclipsr called Tim... His channel is called... "Walk With Me Tim"... He's a native of Norfolk... And he has many videos from Norfolk and the surrounding areas... He's done a few videos of him traveling on the Norfolk Broads... And there are some stunning waterside homes at Wroxham too that he captures... If i can... I'll put a link to his video below... Where he hires a day boat for a few hours... As he travels along the Norfolk Broads... Some of the beautiful waterside homes are for rent as holiday homes... And some of them are actually for sale... But these are such desirable homes... That they'll easily be going for seven figure sums... And are well over a million pounds plus... And you'll definitely understand why... Once you've actually seen these properties... They are stunning!... Many thanks for taking us all out with you both... On your drive around the Norfolk countryside... All the very best... Cheers guys. 🍺 Enjoy!. 👍("Walk With Me Tim") --------------> ruclips.net/video/wBnCuqLO5d8/видео.htmlsi=BlEr25i0MnZAReiu

Loved the video as had many happy childhood holidays on the Broads back in the 80's. I loved my summer holidays in Spain and Italy but had some equally great times on the Broads with my parents where we'd hire a boat for the week. In the 90's my parents bought they're own boat which they kept on the Broads. They initially kept their boat in Surrey on the River Thames close to where we lived but the mooring fees were expensive and my Mum hated negotiating locks. Always seemed to get lucky with the weather up there. You should definitely hire a boat.

    Good trip guys.
Wife and I have rented a broads cruiser and had a lovely short break .
We live in Ipswich so its fairly local to us.
Wroxham is the main rental basin with srveral companies
We chose a sliding coach roof boat rather than one with a flying bridge as if the weather's good it gives you a really big open air lounge area .
They do rent small day boats for last minute picnic outings .
Narrow boats are more common on canals than the broads which we have also done Grand union is a nice not too far canal and the Bisworth tunnel is interesting to navigate.
    Safe journeys

As a Churchwarden of a (modern) Church I appreciate the enormous problem communities with the upkeep of these ancient Churches. The Church of England has massive resources, it's true, but even more massive obligations. The Government gives us little support in looking after one of the greatest collections of mediaeval buildings in the world.
You should learn how to identify the age of what you're looking at; once you have established that a piece of the building is not Victorian - mediaeval looks more battered - you can sort the pieces into centuries. E.g. the main window in the first Church looks Decorated Period to me, and therefore may well be 14th century.
Much of the administration of the Church of England is laid down by the law of the land. Rightly, there is strict law regulating repairs and modifications to Churches, and Committees with top architects have to advise. All church parishes have to have Parochial Church Councils (PCCs), and Churchwardens, as well as clergypeople, and they have to get clearance for work by a Faculty.
Do you have any bluebell woods near you? Certain ancient woods are carpeted with these flowers, which will soon be in bloom. They are a must-see.
