This highly entertaining video was clearly given thumbs down votes by Mel Gibson, a few royal marines, the French, the Italians, several pharmaceutically dependant children who now forever sleep on the floor with the lights on, 2 polar bears and an elephant. For me however, this was one of the easiest clips to give a thumbs up to I have ever watched. Thanks for posting!
A true British NCO, strength of character, a sense of humour and scared of no one or no thing.
He made me laugh more than any comedian I have seen for years all the while refreshing my education.
Well done that man!
cough...Irish...cough
Well, at least I didn't say English. Celtic is obviously the source of the humour. Anyway, I apologise abjectly for that faux pas.
Judging by his accent probably born and brought up in England and a British NCO by virtue of serving in the British Army.
Bill Callaghan.....should get a medal. The perfect example of a military style of instructional technique.
"BE QUIET!! THIS IS A PALACE NOT A PLAYGROUND"
bloody brilliant
"We didn't execute ALL our prisoners" .... I was waiting for him to give a little nod to the Australians then.
Can tell he’s ex military.....got to love forces humour ,legend in the making
Cynically this man was worth an absolute fortune to his employers...I prefer to think, (as is equally likely the truth), he's a natural teacher...as befits a man of his previous occupation...gotta love him...one of the best of the best...
I really enjoyed my time with the Royal Marines. A superb fighting force and a damn fine group of people.
this man is brilliant, i wish my history teachers at school could have been as entertaining. i would have learnt so much more.10/10
Peter Osborne Dam
He's better than Old Spanky Farnsworth!
Top draw!!
Yea, adult jokes is just the thing to get you into history.
He really doesn't like children.
Perhaps if you had been more entertaining you would have learnt more ;)
This gentleman was a Sergeant Major in the British Army. Its simply not worth trying to one up such a man. They've seen it all before. Many times. Seen it and done it. Don't even try. Simply enjoy the benefit of his many years of experience and his sense of humour.
I especially loved the Aussie smart Alecs being told to shut up or go away, nearby parents of a screaming child being yelled at to shut it up, and his take on the French and Italians. I'm an Aussie, and the Poms have the greatest sense of humor in the world, bar none. These clips are totally priceless - if only history were taught this way. Thank you for the post.
If not already a fan you may enjoy Dr Lucy Worsley a great teller of history
with a style all her own try on You Tube for uploads
Barbara, I am English and I like to think that we have a good sense of humour, but so do Aussies, Paul Hogan and the Agro out takes are comedy GOLD!!
Barbara Trehy aka the drunk bitch...
Got to have a sense of humour to be in the Military
the military have the best humour ever they see some fucked up shit and have fucked up humour to match
Makes one to make a visit just to hear the banter. BILLIANT!
It what I love about being a Brit is are sarcastic sense of humour . love him he so funny
The thing I enjoyed most about visiting England was the zany sense of humor. This Yeoman was not untypical. I never stopped laughing the entire time I was there, and most of the humor was self deprecating.
76 juno,it's part of the enjoyment of being English sir.
You need a sense of humour to live here.
Indeed. When I was stationed in Germany, I found the German sense of humour was no laughing matter!!
In my limited experience self-deprecating speakers seem to be much better received than self-defecating
@Aussie Pom I am British: I loathed 'allo 'allo.
fair play to this yeoman, its his job to make sure EVERYONE in his group can hear , he wasnt taking any crap from the people who are just theer to balls things up or ace a smart ass , hats of sir ;o)
I love the fact that all Yeomans have to be at least ex-Sergeant majors, with an unblemished record over 22 years of service, usually Warrant Officers. First Class (A WO1)
Its 'Yeomen' actually... but yeah, you could tell this guy used to be a Sergeant Major. Actually at the beginning he sounded just like a history teacher I had at school. Scary! lol
Billy was a national hero. He was a GSM of the British Army (Senior enlisted member of the Armed Services) and my friend. He was loved, adored, respected, and idolized. Which is significant when you see this video. Unless you look carefully, you will miss his humility and the honor he felt in this position as A Chief Yeoman Warder in the Tower of London. Watch again, and witness a real, honest hero being just another guy.
"It's a better ratio then the state of Texas." Lol that line cracked me up. This guy is great.
A Service man of great distinction and character .A ex Sargent Major couldn't you tell .He seems to enjoy his new roll as a fantastic and dedicated ambassador of our Great Country . bravo sir.
I am busy. I accidentally clicked on the link to this video. I thought I might see a minute of it, but then I just had to see all of it, it was that good. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Thanks for sharing the video with all, and three cheers for that Yeoman.
Being a American myself I respect the English History. So much good stuff. And this guy makes it fun and entertaining. :)
Gold Leader from 2CPU?
I used to work as a chef in the Tower guardrooms circa 1988--90....Harry was probably still serving in the regular army then so didn't see any of his palace tours.....a true star.....keep it up young sir....we honour your strength and honesty and yes...your story telling makes the info stick in my mind...WELL DONE...!!
In the future, they will definitely be good. They just will never be better than this one.
Bloody legend this man.
Oh, he is funny, My son is army and sometimes when his voice gets louder and louder I say, " this isn't a parade ground" When he yelled at those kids, wow that booming voice.
I only wish my history teachers were as well versed and as bloody funny, althought they must have taught me something because without some prior knowledge one might have looked for something else to watch. Simply brilliant, only wish I knew who he was, and when this footage was shot. Give the man another medal !! And yes I am am Australian.
Very knowledgeable, an excellent orator, entertaining and .... a gentleman.
I'm an American and have English blood in my veins my nana great nana and aunt were all from London I hope to 1 day visit London thank you for sharing this funny video love from across the pond
@@SimSim-zf9if excuse me my nana is my mom's mom I'm more english then you aviously because you sir have NO manners to speak of I'm proud to be an American and of my family heritage bugger off
That's a lovely thing to say, I hope you get here to see your family history, we all need that.🙂
@@tonywilkinson6895 yes we do need to know where we come from I've always felt this pull to England and I believe it's because of my nana and great nana
I reckon this is the best version of his tour. In this one, he hasn't been 'toned down' and made to be more 'PC' (Politically Correct). Superb story teller. :-)
Brilliant,especially the Mel Gibson comments,,(:
He’ll make a great pub landlord, a great comic.
Awesome... It's like a Monty Python movie.
And he's still there lol
I was fortunate enough to have him as my "guide" when I visited last year.
What a brilliant talk, what a superb guy! - I must return to The Tower!
He is soooo good! I was in tears watching this!
I enjoyed this video, thankyou for uploading it. I hope this guy is still doing these tours because I'de lve to see him there.
I'm English and would pay for this tour.
When I go to London I'm gonna see this guy.
What a charismatic fellow!! I enjoyed him immensely!!👍👍
A Sergeant Major? Bet he was a R.S.M. Excellent tour.
If only History was this entertaining! Then people would love it more, like I do!
We have the magical pixie that is Dr Lucy Worsley with a "style" as British
as Marmite you either love it or hate it ! Think can be found on You Tube
My Father was a Yeoman Warder, and i’ve seen him do this very thing. I miss the life at the Tower.
I used to live in the Tower of London at no 8 then no 5 Hospital Block. My then husband was a Royal Family Steward based there.
I love this guy,....I still watch and laugh. Don't care what rank he got to, bloody wonderful
He started out a little morose; but his humour is soooo dry you can't help but like him! ;)
this is the same guide we had the morning of March 2015 on our tour - truly amazing
Yeoman Callaghan would make a perfect history teacher.
This Yeoman is a treasure! If he ever were to decide to retire, he could have a very successful career at a comedy club. Enjoy the show!
I've no idea how many times I watched this, but it is briljant he needs to have his own tv show !!
Not only very funny and entertaining , but I also learnt some of my country’s history.
You have to love the dryness of British humour, and especially the wit of the yeoman.
I love this guy, he makes me proud to be a Brit
Shades of Alan Rickman in this man's speech.
Wow, I could listen to that man for hours, He certainly has a passion for his job. He is a credit to his uniform. Although i do wish he would've explained why one tower in particular twists in the opposite direction to the others. I guess i can google it but it won't be as entertaining as this chap telling me why.
It was for the left handed defenders.
He's fantastic!
British humour at it's finest!
We love our morbid humour and shit like that haha
Gotta go on one of these tours sometime.
Hes my brother in laws uncle served 22 years in ramc before he became a yeoman
Man, I miss the pre-PC world of 2014. This guy would probably get arrested or sued for half of what he said nowadays.
AWESOME gentleman, I laughed and got a free up-dated education to boot... Bravo sir.. : :0)x
Brilliant
Can you imagine the stories these guys could tell...I have been writing books for a couple of years and would love to write down some of their stories from their previous military lives...sadly...as we lose the old soldiers...we also lose their stories.....always thought that someone should be recording them for posterity..??!!
this Yeoman did recognise me 21:04 as he served with my dad
He was my best man. and I was his. Imagine his speech at my wedding.
this guy should do history documentaries. Our youth need a rolemodel like this guy.
Love this guy. Hope he is still at the tower of london.
No I'm afraid he is no longer there.
This is awesome. What an obnoxious American going "and the relevance is?" but otherwise great tour. This guy is hilarious... "...and I'm sure the Royal Marines can tell you where."
Obnoxious American- that's about right too
Claire Thorsdottir Why do you suggest it was obnoxius Americans? You have something against us? Because not all American's are obnoxious and don't act like you are better. Every country has Obnoxious people in it.
Gold Leader
Just ignore the idiot ,I'm English and have spent many holidays in the USA ,and all the English /British people I've spoken to all say how nice and friendly the Americans are,👍👍👍👍👍
If someone is being obnoxious and they are American then they are by correct use of the English Language 'an obnoxious American' as in 'That obnoxious American over there'.
Those being a bit 'sensitive' should maybe understand the OP did not say 'Americans are obnoxious' let alone 'all Americans are obnoxious'. Maybe read what is written?
soflo23 I'm not speaking for this lady but to me Its just a stereotype (she probably has only seen Americans on t.v. or RUclips). Dont get upset. Every American i've meet were actually delightful, caring ,humble and intelligent people.
Thank you for sharing this ,I have seen it for real and I would not expect anyone to believe what a great time I had..So glad it is now on record..
Absolutely brilliant speaker!
One can see that he has rehearsed this speech to VERY WELL. I applaud him.
Most entertained I've been in a long time., hats off to you sir.
Can you imagine this man,who clearly had some sort of recruit training background ,interacting with Lee Ermey ? Two alpha males trying one-upmanship on each other, trying hard to crack the other up. Unlikely to happen, but Oh Lordy,it would have been hilarious. A real character, this one. Demented Scots indeed.
Another Irish wordsmith. And damn proud of it too. Good for him.
Be quiet! This is a palace not a playground! 😂😂😂😂😂 dead!!
by heck he was brilliant and 22 years for queen and country, but alas one thinks one should have tread the boards not one with a trap door I may say, you would have been a millionaire by now ,brilliant!!
It's been more then 15 years ago since I made the tower tour in London which was guided by one of the beefeaters (?).
It was interesting, funny and entertaining. Those guys really make a good job and I am fondly remembering it even after all those years.
Brilliant, all tour guides everywhere should be made to watch this video... this is how the job should be done
Ady Cleve: He's not a tour guide. He's a Yeoman Wardour who is required to give guided tours.
@@anghinetti In fact there also professional tour guides who are allowed into the Tower, but they do their tours in foreign languages. This has created problems sometimes as they are not always aware of what happens within the Tower. One such guide didn't take any notice of the Guard to the Word who couldn't get past his group. Apparently he was so absorbed in what he was telling them and of course the group didn't understand English either. A yeoman warder was furious and demanded to see his official guide number and badge, so probably that put an end to his career.
I watched all the way through, as a history student I knew Id be engaged but I hadnt realized how amusing I found gore.
Good man Mr.Bill.
Thank you for posting this. :) I enjoyed the commentary and history lesson very much. ^_^ It added to my knowledge of random and sometimes useless facts.
stumbled upon this so glad i did, very very good!!!!!
Absolutely superb!
He showed us round when we went to watch the ceremony of the keys a few years back........Very entertaining
This is the best Yeoman i have ever seen i will take my place as a Yeoman soon
Totally brilliant I had no idea the tour was so educational and funny
Fantastic .... I really enjoyed the history and the humour
this dude is awsome history and fun in one
PAIN! LOTS OF PAIN!
He is hysterical More!
THAT BLOODY MONTROSITY
Ex-British Army Senior NCO (I suspect an RSM) vs annoying-but-nice Tourists from all over the place.
Only one winner.
An absolute legend should be prime minister
Learnt more from him than my History teacher back in the 90's.
Absolutely brilliant
That's so funny! I wonder how he'd treat Americans!!!
Just like this! As dear long lost friends but with a bit of a joke here or there!
Brilliant Yeoman !
He was great.I only hope that he is there if and when I go there.
absolutely brilliant !!!
Everyone's fair game to Yeoman Warder Bill Callaghan. I hope he's on when I get to visit.
Very funny even if the history about Henry's wives from Jane Seymour to Katherine Parr was a little unique with a few of the facts
Brilliant video! This man is a legend! LOL
You can follow this gentleman on Twitter @BillyBeefeater . We took his tour on July 4th, and as you might imagine, he had some humorous things to say about us Yanks.
I'm sure that it was all in good humor. :)
Lonely Traveler Very much so. We visited on Treason Day (his phrase), or as we call it in the US, Independence Day. We had a great time.
Bob Edmison
Ha Ha that's hilarious. He was probably wondering what you were doing in enemy land on your Independence day that we got from them. :)
Tourists think yeoman and the queens guard are simply gimmicks or a tourist attraction. Most of them have no idea the guard are acting soldiers and the yeoman are all very experienced, high ranking officers.
Thanks so much for uploading! I learnt a lot!
Do love the way he says William the Bastard!! 21:53
god id love his job, i love hie ethos on children lol
I wish someone would have taped when he shows where Anne Bolyn and Catherine Howard were killed and where there final resting place is.
+Mary Ann Wittkowske : He did stand by the place where they were executed and talked about it at length. The video couldn't show where they were buried because filming/photos are not allowed inside the chapel.
(BTW, his info about Jane Seymour was wrong. She was not 6 months pregnant when they married, (she gave birth over a year after the wedding) and she lived 2 weeks after giving birth.)
Oh, thanks. I didn't know that.
+madam49er Did they say where Anne's Brother's body is buried?
@madam49er. And Henry and Anne of Cleves did not marry by proxy and first met in Rochester, Kent where Henry decided to go incognito, and surprise the poor woman. Unfortunately no longer being love's young dream, Henry shocked rather than delighted her and she did not act according to the script. Nor did she run his household after the divorce.
Also Katherine's lovers Culpepper and Dereham, were executed before she was beheaded. I have always thought it unfair Culpepper, who was the one who committed adultery with was beheaded, and Dereham was hanged, drawn and quartered.
