A Yeoman Warder (Beefeater) tour guide keeps the crowd smiling and laughing during a Thursday, December 9, 2010 visit to the Tower of London by Jerry and Judy Clark
I was a soldier, and believe me this mans troops would had followed him anywhere he had the wit to inspire and lead to great affect which all soldier love and respect...
kevin brigginshaw : I was a police officer. We had many bosses we would have followed to the ends of the earth - out of sheer curiosity to see where their stupidity would lead us next.
Not a lot of people know this but this Yeoman Warder is Bill Callaghan. He has been told off by the management of the Tower for his non PC manner. If you like Bill's style drop him a line at the Tower and let him know. Guys like him need our support.
A great advert for the country and for the British Army. It's men like this who possess great character, personality, humour, intellect, recall and sheer presence that characterise all that's best about the British people. If ever history could be made fascinating and memorable here's the man to teach it. My sides are still hurting from laughter - absolutely unspeakably brilliant.
Sexist, racist, politically incorrect loud mouth - and absolutely BRILLIANT!!! and a privilege to listen to and watch - have watched all four videos and must thank also the person who posted them absolutely fantastic. Give this guy another medal for being everything that is good about Britian.
If this is the best humour available on the whole internet, if not the world. It is done with grace style and honesty and the guy and his colleagues are the most decent and genuine people i have met. Anyone who is 'offended' should be ashamed and maybe reflect on what these guys have done in their life.
Received one part on a FB post today and was so impressed I tracked down the others. What a delight and pleasure to spend an hour or so in this gentleman's company.
NO!, you are completely wrong!!. Bill Callaghan reminds me of my high school science teacher, MISS Hutchins. Incredibly beautiful, (sorry Bill, not you), but rivetingly engaging, we all hung on to, leaned forward to hear her every word. I'm 63 now, and wayyyyy back when I was 15-16, Miss Hutchins was beauty personified. Beauty of eye, beauty of word, beauty of knowledge, which she imparted in all her classes, with infectious enthusiasm, MAGNIFICIENT expression, and a voice to die for.
This man is truly amazing, I missed him by a whisker last year due to heavy rain at the Tower, not knowing what I missed, how I wished I stood with him.
Thrilled to find this is still on youtube, I downloaded it years ago but lost it when a virus hit the computer. Found it again & this time saving it, very enjoyable. Thanks.
This guy is magic. He says how it is (or was). No nonsense granny state then. This is life as history was. I really respect the message he is sending out.
Its not often you find and Orator and historian of this calibre, not to mention a highly decorated soldier in his own wright...a .bloody genious, history was never my strong point but i have learnt more in these four episodes than i had learnt in many years at the Fagan;s academy the called my school. Thank you so much for putting this up. Respects.
I did I'm Irish and all the Yeomen Warders have a great sense of humour. Would love to return for another tour.but im now on a walker,so don't know if I would make it. They all have their own Spiel all are great. My cousin met one of them when in a pub having a pint one night. He said it was the most enjoyable part of his holiday. They are gifted
Thanks for uploading this brilliant video series (I've just watched all 4 and will view them again next time I want a good laugh) - the warder's delivery and timing was superb better in my opinion than some professional comedians. Brilliant filming too - I've seen worse when a full film crew was used. I feel sure that this will become a RUclips classic.
The humour is called "taking the piss". Bill Bryson has observed Americans do not have an equivalent expression. It is a particular type of British humour.
Thanks for these postings (4) How good it is to hear someone speak with little or no regard for the 'namby pamby' P.C. element of this world. Long may he continue to educate and entertain. Hope he's still there! I think a trip to London is overdue!!!
Just watched all 4 parts of this , Bill is a fantastic advert for the tower , i'm visiting the tower next week i hope he still works there i would love to meet him :)
Brilliant! What a fantastic speaker, he conveys enthusiasm and projects leadership....to add dry humour is a special talent that he has but so many try for yet fail. And for such a veteran and obviously respected former soldier I see that he does not have a wall of ribbon on display that is so common amongst other forces. Only the real stuff, no medals for the small stuff...MOD at its best.
Love his patter. I know there are some good guides around who keep you entertained and keep you informed at the same time. There is a good Duo at Bolsover Castle, Morecame and Wise style. This is the way to guide. Good job Bill, .
When I went to Dublin June last year, we had a young attractive brunette giving us a Tour of the castle. She was just a as funny. Tour guides like them are legends, and really make the trip worthwhile! :)
Absolutely brilliant, he's a star. Entertaining, engaging and knows how to keep an audiences' attention. What a cracking chap. So enjoyed all four parts, thank you for posting these. I want to go there now!
Thanks for posting the four video's. I spen rather a lot of my life doing guard duty at the tower and never came accross a guy like him, very funny. Thanks.
What a fantastic tour! I watched them all, and have to say that he is awesome. I work in a tudor house and would love to have him come do a talk. WOW, laughed so much throught that, thank you so much for sharing him. xx
Thanks for posting the four video's. I spent rather a lot of my life doing guard duty at the tower and never came accross a guy like him, very funny. Thanks.
I think this guy is incredible and amazingly funny. He is certainly inspiring me to take my American wife to London - she has never been there and it has been a long time since I was there. We should have many many more people like him, mainly to poke one in the eye on the PC brigade. Many many thanks for posting a wonderful show. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The name Beefeater is of uncertain origin, with various proposed derivations. The most likely one[1] is considered to be from the Warders' right to eat as much beef as they wanted from the King's table. Various historical commentators have noted a preference for beef among the Warders and the Yeomen of the Guard. It is theoretically possible that these professions enjoyed rich, hearty broths as well.
did the tower a few years ago our beefeater asked the audience where you were from and noted the mass murders and psychopaths that were from your area when they found I was from Wisconsin the list he regurgitated seemed endless. He also asked that I stop videotaping him after the first stop Thanks for posting this It brings back some fond memories
#2. Yes, I'm still in love with her, as we all were, and still are. To have had a Miss Hutchins in my schooling I cound myself beyond incredibly fortunate. Because of her, I, and my family, have travelled this beautiful blue Planet, she planted the seed of knowledge within me, - all of us. A demanding, thirsty seed, that needed to drink of knowledge to flower, it demanded the sustenance that is seeing, feeling, hearing, doing. We grew, saw, wondered, and learnt, for Miss Hutchins.
This Yeoman Warder's name is Bill Callaghan - a delightful fellow. It was a delight to make this series. I may even develop a DVD of it after I learn how to use Apple's Final Cut Studio professional movie software. For now, enjoy!
I can only reiterate previous comments....thanks jec0066 for filming and posting and MANY thanks to Yeoman Warder Bill Callaghan for the most entertainingly historical (or should that be hysterical) tour I've ever seen or watched !!! I received part 2 via an e-mail link and just had to watch all 4 parts. Thanks again
Wow....thanks to all for your many kind comments. This fellow was so funny we could hardly stop laughing! I just returned from a trip and will try to post replies to many of your comments. I guess I need to make a DVD of the series!
As a young child I went to the Tower on a school trip, it was sooo boring. Thank you for putting this on YT.... I have watched all 4 of your vids and laughed out loud to all of them. I am slightly amazed though that no one said thank you, or shook the Yeomans hand; whatever the entry fee is nowadays, that man has singlehandedly made me want to visit the Tower ... this time it would be money well spent.
Why is this man not on our television screens!?! Where are the talk show lackies from both sides of 'The Pond'? Britain's Got Talent - damned right, right here! Book him now & pay him lots of money - you know it makes sense!
I never attended my history class while at school, this was due to the worlds most dull man quoting dates to me. Had this man have been my teacher i belive that I would have picked history as my degree
I actually know someone related to Catherine Parr. Two reasons Henry didn't kill her was because firstly she was a very skilled nurse, which Henry needed at that point in his life, and also every night when Henry would go to bed, Catherine would tell him a story. Her stories were entirely made up, so were never recorded, and always ended on cliffhangers. She would always say "Ill tell you the ending tomorrow" and then tell him a completely new story the next day, rinse and repeat. I dont even think Parr herself knew how her stories ended, but she did an excellent job of using them to keep Henry distracted from offing her
Brilliant stuff. What a fine example of unbiased wit combined with a great way of making history come to live. Well done to him and well done to jec0066 for filming it and posting it.
thank you soooo much. thoroughly enjoyed all 4 parts!! my daughter is off to London this coming Sunday. I'm going to tell her about this. thanks again!!
I also fear that alot of the humour this man used is probably not allowed anymore, due to certain parties and their constant need to complain about everything. Hopefully if he is still employed there his routine is still allowed.
+RegamusMaximus I saw this gentleman as recently as Christmas 2015 and his tour was very much the same content-wise. Wonderful guide, full of laughs, and just as engaging. Lovely!
Very entertaining. History presented in a manner that makes it far more interesting and perhaps easier to remember...... well, the gory bits will be remembered. "Off with 'er 'ead"
Wonderful to watch and see we can still have a a laugh, unfortunately I couldn't get away with most of that where I work, but outside of work, that's another story! There's the mention of American sense of humour against British, listening to the crowd there didn't seem a problem, the Americans seemed to be having a good laugh, I think our sense of humours are very similiar. Thanks for posting.
I was a soldier, and believe me this mans troops would had followed him anywhere he had the wit to inspire and lead to great affect which all soldier love and respect...
Amen Kev

@@stevetaylor9846 Different level....
@@stevetaylor9846 😂😂😂😂😂
That was legendary, the crowd really didn't reflect how brilliant this man is at giving tours. Dry, straightforward British humour.
Happy to say Bill returned to work today and will be back on tours tomorrow!

Never tire of watching this man, visited a year or so ago but unfortunately he wasn't on duty. Fabulous humour!
Truly Brilliant historian. If only it were like this in school.
Just fabulous. What a great advert for the Tower. Educational and hilarious.
Thrilled to find this is still on youtube, I downloaded it years ago but lost it when a virus hit the computer. Found it again & this time saving it, very enjoyable. Thanks.
If this man had been my history teacher at school - I'd have wanted to stay at school ! Terrific stuff !
My wife and I did a tour with him last May and he is wonderful: Great historical perspective and humor.
This guy is magic. He says how it is (or was). No nonsense granny state then. This is life as history was. I really respect the message he is sending out.

How can you not love this guy?
Legend.
Saw this yoeman on NY eve 2011 and he was the best part of the Tower of London experience. Funny and very informative.

How lovely, they say you never forget a good teacher.
SO BRILLIANT
Oh, I wish I'd have been there!
utterly brilliant and such entertainment with history and a great sense of humour!
Fun to watch all four. I had been to The Tower back in 1981.
Love his patter. I know there are some good guides around who keep you entertained and keep you informed at the same time. There is a good Duo at Bolsover Castle, Morecame and Wise style. This is the way to guide. Good job Bill,

This Mr. Callaghan has a real knack for teaching and is a great comic.
Could listen and learn all day... Great stuff.

God Bless you sir!! Legend
This guy is brilliant. The best You Tube I've seen, well played Sir!
I also fear that alot of the humour this man used is probably not allowed anymore, due to certain parties and their constant need to complain about everything.
Hopefully if he is still employed there his routine is still allowed.
+McNab1986 still allowed for these guys. Would you complain? :)
thekaxmax
I wouldn't complain if anyone used this sort of humour, Comedy is just that, comedy.
+RegamusMaximus I saw this gentleman as recently as Christmas 2015 and his tour was very much the same content-wise. Wonderful guide, full of laughs, and just as engaging. Lovely!
Saw this guy May of this year. Same sense of humor.

3:41 was the BEST. this man's amazing! makes me want to go to the tower of london and stand there and listen to him. no other tour guide will do :P
