By the way, I'm currently working on a review of a 1939 Savage Model 6A, an earlier version of the Stevens 87A, but basically the same rifle. It should be posted early May. Stay tuned!
I have had 2 similar models, both Savage 187s. They were from the 1980s. One was an "A" model and the other an "S" version. I sold the "A" model and kept the "S" model even though it was in rougher condition (more character!). Both could shoot dime size groups at 50 yards with a scope attached (the later rifles had dove tail grooves in the receiver). These are under appreciated classics. Thanks for another fun video.

I have a Springfield model 187n, it’s a little different. It has dovetail cut into the receiver and came with scope so it was probably manufactured in the 60s. The lines are similar but the bolt operates differently, also no bolt hold close, two gills on the left one on the right, has a case deflector, and it will cycle shorts, long, and LR. I don’t shoot high velocity ammo in it. I saw one like it back in the day and snapped this one up over twenty years ago. It’s my favorite.

Hi: Happy New Year. great video !!!! I just picked up one of these in nice condition. What cleaning lubrication products did you use to clean the internals...striker, firing pin etc.. You also mentioned that you used some kind of oil ? I'd like to obtain the proper cleaning products for my rifle so I can take care of it.
Congratulations on your recent purchase! For cleaning/lubricating any good CLP (Clean, Lubricate, Protect) oil will do, in my opinion. But personally, I like Mossy Oak CLP primarily because I like its smell better than most others. If its a dirty job, I may start with Remington Shotgun Cleaner first. I like it because it works and leaves no residue. For lubricating rails, strikers and hammers, I like Hopps 9, but again, any good oil from your gun store will probably do. If the action is light, I may use EEZ+X synthetic because its extremely light. I typically use Birchwood-Casey "Barricade" spray for rust protection and long-term storage. Hope this helps and again, its just my opinion. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. Your rifle is missing the cartridge guide spring it’s part #31 on the numrich schematic for the 87A I can’t even figure out what purpose it serves but, for whatever it’s worth it looks to be lost. I bought my first one for &100.00 dollars a couple of years ago. I saw an 87d in a local pawn shop a couple of months ago for over $350.00 and they are put up for auction on gunbroker in the $300.00 to 500.00 all the time.
Indeed, as others have also pointed out. Missing this spring is what caused the loading problems with this rifle. The owner has replaced the spring and the rifle now functions as it should. I noticed your rifle is missing the cartridge guide spring. Mine has double feeding issues I’m having a gunsmith take a look at it hopefully he figures it out for me.
So it is. I missed that. Thanks. I'll let the owner know. Thanks for commenting and thanks for watching. Don't forget to like, share and subscribe. If you haven't already, I hope you'll check out my other "Mick Mac" Tabletop Review videos on RUclips and Rumble.

Just watched your video. noticed that you are missing "Cartridge Guide Spring". It's located at the end of the feed tube. This will prevent jamming. Good Luck

Some models of the Western Field were in fact wood. I have one in my safe that my grandfather bought new so I know it’s not a replacement stock
