    Thank you so much for this detailed video you saved the day 😊.. I originally purchased the rifle from a pawn shop because someone had refinished the stock and all the metal and it looked beautiful. I intended to give this to my son for his birthday some time later. We went to go shooting and the gun just jammed... Upon further inspection I assumed that I needed the lifter Spring because there was slop in it but after Watching Your video I realized Why? The person who tooket to the pawn shop in the 1st place It would not fire for them either due to the fact that who ever Refinish the and reassembled it put that spring in backwards.. Everything works fine now thank you so much.

    Thank you so much for this. I have the Savage Revelation m.160 and it is almost exactly the same. I have been searching for years for information on it. Recently learned that they are basically the same at the 187r and 87a. Thank you. Glad I replaced my damaged spring and now have a function gun after 3 years! My only town gunsmith wanted $100 to do it, that's the value of the rifle, no way. I just did it for $8.

  • @JamesLee-dd9zs
    @JamesLee-dd9zs 3 года назад +1

    All of the articles I have read say that you need to remove the barrel to install the bumper. There are apparently two types. One is a hard metal piece shaped something like an arrowhead and comes with a small coiled spring. The other looks like a thin piece of metal bent into a triangular shape. I am not sure how either of these fit into the slot on top of the barrel without falling out. I have ordered one of each on ebay and will see what looks like it will work when I get them. Any thoughts you might have would be welcome.

    • @JamesLee-dd9zs

      I noticed in one of your other videos that your 87A has the solid type bumper. I have a Springfield 187N that is virtually the same gun so I was able to see that the spring sits in a little hole in the top of the receiver above where the bumper sticks out. I had not seen this hole in my 87A but there it was. I think I now know how to put the new bumper in when it arrives. Wish me luck!

    You say the ends of the lifter spring go "over" their catch locations ("notch" is your term). My 87A has two small holes in the center of each catch point. Would the ends of the lifter spring be placed through each respective hole in the catch locations or ride on top of the catch? If they are to ride atop then I can perceive greater, more strength from the spring as it is being wound just a bit tighter. After a few decades (yes)I reassembled my 87A today after cleaning. I placed the lifter spring ends into each respective notch hole and experience that a shell is not getting lifted fully to be slid into the chamber. Rather, the shell seems stuck, gripped in the feeder. I had to disassemble and pick the shell out with my pocket knife. I do have a replacement spring ordered but still need to know correct assembly. Much tanks.

    • @Stray03
      @Stray03  4 года назад

      I've seen pictures with it through the holes in models with the holes. I can't be certain about if it is the right location but, assuming the spring is installed the right direction then I'd say try the minimum and if it doesn't seem to be working properly try the location with more tension. I dont know why yours would have both holes and notches.

    After watching your video on the lift removal, it still does not allow the shells to flow out of the feed tube one at a time and to position to be loaded. I have however noticed there is some sort of spring clip that is directly involved with the feed tube and lifter. It is forward of the spring assembly for the lifter. It looks like it is in some sort of Groove just behind the feeding tube. I believe this is where my problem lies. Because my model that I have gotten does not have that. It is the same thing that you have, but mine is missing. Do you know where I can find a replacement, or can I make one somehow. I don't know what it looks like on the inside of that area. If you could send me a video of the removal of that part on yours I would appreciate it. If you can tell me what that part is called and where I can order it that would be great.

    I'm having problems with my lifter. Yesterday I got two bullets stuck between the lifter and the spent casing. It was a pain. Watching this video it looks like your lifter spring has a lot more tension on it than mine. Like others, this gun comes to me from my grandpa, so it's old and hasn't been shot in a long time. • @Stray03
      @Stray03  8 лет назад

      Not hard, just a pain in the ass. I was about to make a video on it but realized that the tube is a semi permanent installation. If you don't want to damage the tube when working on it, I was told by a viewer that the barrel and mag tube is removed as a unit, then you can work on the whole feed mechanism can be removed. As for the difficulty of the barrel removal after drifting out the pins, I have no Idea if it is a force fit or just tight.

  • @darcy32171
    @darcy32171 9 лет назад

    Please can you tell me what the funky spring does that wraps the mag tube and sits in the narrow slot in the action? Mine is missing and won`t feed ammo. Ammo seems to feed two at a time and jams everything. I watched your videos and nothing is mentioned about it or you have never removed it.

    • @darcy32171

    • @Stray03
      @Stray03  9 лет назад

      darcy32171 It does exactly that, if it is missing it doesn't supply pressure on the round being lifted up and can allow it to move around enough to jam. it is there to keep the round where it is supposed to be during the lifting part of the cycle. I have a video showing how the spring is acting when ammo is lifted through it. (one of my latest videos). Get one from a parts dealer like numrich, because the rifle wont cycle properly without it and I have heard it can lead to jamming that requires a mag tube and lifter removal to clear.

    I wrote a comment on one of your other "how to" vids and I wanted to add something specific about my Western field model 59 in reference to where the lifter spring ends rest. Where you are able to lift the spring up onto a notched peg with the dental tool, mine is not like that. The "peg" on mine is actually shaped like a tiny donut with no groove on the top. When I disassembled the lifter to remove my jam, the two sharp ends of the spring went through the "hole" of these tiny donuts. The way that they are installed appears that the spring would not have as much tension on it as the one in your video...Perhaps I have an older/newer version of the rifle...who knows? I need to replace the LIFTER, but NUMRICH CORP. offers 3 types of apparently different lifters:
    1.- Lifter (Spring Style), Old Style
    2.- Lifter, New Style
    3.- Lifter, New Style, Replacement
    In your video, the outer tube magazine has a semi-round cut just in front of the lifter, which I guess allows the lifter to catch the bottom of the .22 round.
    However, the outer tube magazine in my 87A does not have such cut. Therefore, I would need some backup to identify the propper lifter for my 87A. Can you help me to define which is the proper lifter I should order for my rifle.
