Finally finished watching this epic top 100. Very entertaining! Great job Mike, Zee and Tom. Loved all your lists, especially the people’s. Great gaming taste everyone.
I'm not in line with Tom a lot, but he's not wrong with Ready Set Bet. It wouldn't be my number one, but it brings me out of my heavy-euro shell and is fun every single time you play it. I think it also makes sense that all three of these guys have a "lighter" game as their number one. They play sooooo many games that it must feel like like a breath of fresh air when a less complex game has that 10/10 fun factor with high replayability, lower set-up time, meaningful choices, and a high success rate when teaching it to new players.
They have all 3 also been teachers by profession in the past, which supports your point. And another reason why I value the other hosts perspectives, I would love another A Team Top 100 or Top 10 of all time for that reason
I wouldn't say it's better than the BGG list, it's just different. BGG is weighted somewhat toward games that have been out long enough to get a lot of votes, but also have high average vote score. Whereas the peoples' choice here in Dice Tower are surely biased toward the views of the hosts.
@@libertyprime9307 well I would say it’s a better list for suggesting games to people than bgg. I would much rather start with DT #1 and work my way down than the bgg list. Not to mention the redundancy issues of bgg. Don’t get me wrong I understand how bgg list works and its purpose I just this list is more useful.
My husband and I are OBSESSED with Ark Nova. Today I thought I was close to winning, so I slowed down my gameplay because I wanted the game to last longer and my husband ended up winning. I just kept wanting to play. How crazy is that?? Also, I am a very competitive person. I love love love it. Thanks for all your hard work guys! Very much appreciated!❤
@@thomgizziz I wholeheartedly disagree. Just because a game is shorter doesn't mean it's better. And there's a degree to which depth and complexity enhance a game and bring more enjoyment to certain players. It can be too much for some. I love both. And think there's enough difference to warrant keeping both. Outside of reducing them to action selection nature games (which is pretty broad categorization... Wingspan would also fall into that genre) they play and feel very differently.
We actually have both and I don't feel the intensity or adrenaline rush, especially when it gets close to the end of game, as I do with Ark Nova. Earth is still a good game though, if I am in the mood for something more relaxing. Glad you are enjoying Earth!❤
I've been catching up on these whilst playing Final Girl, so was super excited to hear its now Mike's No.7. Especially since I was first persuaded to play it when Mike talked about it in a previous year's top 100
Great and interesting content! I love how you slightly shifted your inclusion of the live chat to snappy short occasional comments, it's much less disruptive than in previous videos, makes it much easier to watch. Cheers!
I love Mind MGMT. It shot straight to my no 1 spot. Being able to play it purely cooperative, with the App as Mind MGMT, makes it a good couples game, which increases play time significantly.
The only one I haven't played from the people's choice top 10 is Spirit Island, and I actually plan on playing it on Sunday! And aside from Viticulture and Scythe, all the others are in my top 100 as well.
I want to go on the cruise! One day soon I will fly over to America from Australia to see it for the first time and I will go on the cruise while I am there!
Mike saying “have you ever had a guava filled chocolate” and then Zee confounding Tom with the immediate “have you ever had a chocolate filled guava?” And 26:35 😂 Zee is quieter than some but him and Mike together is hilarious
So awesome there were all new number 1s! Still most in line with Mike, but Zee is a close second, and he probably has the most games that I don’t have, but really want to try/buy. 51st state is definitely getting added soon, I hope. Sorry Tom! But all of your excitement about Marvel United has me SO pumped to get my copy from Kickstarter. Super excited for the Civil War one. Easily one of my favorite Marvel movies. Anyway, thanks so much guys!
Great list as ever. Always a lil sad when these finish, though they'll be other members top 100. Neat for all the changes - added more games to my want to play 😅
Great list, as always! It was fun to see four #1 shake-ups after having been stable for several years. One thing I noticed, though. Did Tom forget about Planet Unknown? I was shocked not to see it on his list, and when it came up for the people at #87, he even mentioned that he was trying to see where he put it on his list. @thedicetower
Story Tiles Top 10 of All Time has shifted a bit this year as well: 10 Sleeping Gods (the original still outshines Distant Skies, mostly cuz it feels more expansive and adventure by boat? Perfection. My favourite open world game.) 9 Okko Chronicles (feudal japanese fantasy horror after the French graphic novel series, stunning table presence, miles ahead of others in this subgenre like Forbidden Fortress) 8 Arkham Horror: TCG (strongest LCG with huge character-event-location synergy with just cards. Thematically atmospheric. Great variety in stories. Huge world to explore) 7 Skull Tales: Full Sail! (best all-around pirate-themed experience in a board game. Adventure campaign and exploration by ship and on foot as a dungeon crawler.) 6 Folklore: the Affliction (still the best RPG-in-a-box feel of playing D&D as a board game. Lovely zoom-in battles and several campaigns to play through) 5 Trudvang Legends (with the Chronicles RPG the most Lord of the Rings feeling you will get. Easy to play, engaging stories. Evocative sculpts. Effortless fun) 4 Middara: Act 1 (the best split dungeon crawler-and-story campaign with personal touches, gorgeous art and graphic design and more is coming...eventually) 3 Tainted Grail (this world is expanding with King of Ruins and the RPG. It is gloriously dark and mythological) 2 Mansions of Madness 2nd Edition (AH:TCG cubed! Atmosphere up the wazoo. Lovecraftian scenarios that will haunt your evenings as doom reveals itself) 1 Tanares Adventures (this Dragonlance-feelling epic campaign blows every other adventure game out of the water. Huge on story, character variety interaction and growth, an RPG to build out the world and hundreds of hours of adventuring old-school D&D-like but...with style and gloss. Love it)
I had non-boardgame friends invite me to a daytime New Year’s Eve pajama “mimosas and boardgame” party. They asked everyone to bring a game and I brought my new copy of Ready Set Bet, which I had just unwrapped… that is all we played. Of the 8 people, only 1 had played “heavy board games” before (catan 😂), but all of them were obsessed with RSB from the outset. I ran the horses and played the first round without the VIP or prop bets, but after each round they asked for more complexity and by the end of the fourth round we were playing the full game and everyone was sweating, stressed, and having an amazing time. RSB isn’t Ark Nova, Scythe, or Twilight Imperium (obviously), but it is an amazing game that can transition anyone from Monopoly and Battleship to new, somewhat complex board games in about 30 min. Completely agree with Tom, and I’m just glad I got my copy before they sell out nationwide. Thanks dice tower, still the best after over a decade!!
A few Yeats ago now, I played dead of winter with a couple of new people and was told they never played a game like that. They loved it. Modern board games are in the majority a delight ( subject to theme preference and what not)
This was a great top 100. Very entertaining! I think Mike said on the earlier lists, that he currently culls games that are too big boxwise. I have that same issue with dwellings of eldervale to be honest. Great game, but the box is just is too damn big
**Sarah McLachlan plays** "For just one simple kickstarter donation, you can ensure a Mike Dilisio receives the care and treatment he needs. Please think of the Dilisios and pledge today."
Wow, all four have new number ones. I can't wait for next year to see if they stay at number one. So I think Tom is winner of these (his) ten games. I thank TDT for doing these videos, they fun to watch.
Can someone tell, how people's choice is measured? Was there a poll at Dice Tower website, facebook or BGG, or sold copies from publishers & retailers?
I was thinking about getting Marvel United to play with my family, but I think when it first came out they did a foursquare review and everybody except Tom gave it around a seven. Anyone know the reason it jumped to the top of their lists? Just more content?
The base Avengers game kinda sucked. Fortunately, since then there's been new "Base Boxes" (Or I guess you'd call them stand-alone expansions) that have drastically improved the game. The one even shown on the clip is ACTUALLY X-Men base game. There's also a new Spidergeddon "Base Box" which is probably only recommended if you're a heavier gamer. It's still light on rules, but the characters have a bit too much meat on them for a casual audience. Whereas X-Men base box has a good mix of light and heavy-ish characters.
When I ranked my games with Pub Meeple, my #1 surprised me: Stone Age. But it's really a flawless classic with lots of luck and lots of strategy: it makes for basically a perfect game.
Lot's of games out there. Not one will click with everyone. My top #10 1. Spirit Island 2. Imperium Legends/Classics - Horizons coming next month with 14 more civs 3. Anachrony 4. Everdell 5. Planet Unkowns 6. Palandis of the West Kingdom 7. Dice Throne 8. Empires of the North 9. Merchants Cove 10. Raiders of the North Sea
Watching this in February 2024. I have played Wingspan over 10 times on BGA and do not care much for it. One opponent actually told me you won't win if you don't get lucky. The dice for food, the luck of the draw not only for the birds but also for the bonus cards, and even randomness for the round goals--which ties into luck of the draw--all make this game not that fun for me. Not interested in Ark Nova now; I am learning Gizmos and then want to learn Kingdomino on BGA after recently learning Ancient Knowledge! I do have Viticulture Tuscany Essential Edition!
10. Twilight Struggle 9. Mansions of Madness: Second Edition 8. Race for the Galaxy 7. War of the Ring: The Card Game 6. Destinies 5. War of the Ring 4. Naga Raja 3. Freedom: The Underground Railroad 2. Kemet: Blood and Sand 1. Summoner Wars (2nd Edition)
@@funnymanfish haha 😄 My top 10. 1. Point salad 2. Architects of the west 3. Clank! 4. Santorini 5. Earth 6. Ticket to ride (Nordic countries>base>Europe) 7. Wingspan 8. Marvel united 9. King of Tokyo 10. Bonsai What would you recommend out of yours for me based off my games?
@@TylerAndToast I’ve played most of those but only ones I feel I’ve played enough to have a real opinion on is TtR, King of Tokyo and Santorini. All of which I enjoy but fall short of greatness for me. Santorini is too deterministic, I’m not a chess fan because rather than interesting trade offs there is always an objectively best move and Santorini, while demonstrably more enjoyable than chess, just falls a bit short of great for that reason. I have it as a 7.5 out of 10. TtR is a bit too straightforward to me, definitely super fun and satisfying but lacking in some interest. I do think it’s interesting that you find the tightest maps more interesting as my favorite is Europe, which I also give a 7.5. King of Tokyo is also good, although I prefer the other two, as KoT has the same issue as TtR with it lacking some interest in my view but also does prioritize fun with the crazy abilities. The wide range in abilities and the randomization of them does make it a bit inconsistent, with some sessions being ridiculously fun and some being a bit of a drag. I give it a 7. I think all are really good and I’m almost always down to play any of them and regularly recommend and request them, just don’t love them. As far as recommendations go, if you’re interested in tighter resource management (like the TtR games you like) Freedom takes that to a cooperative game, with a tastefully done and compelling inspected historical theme. As far as co-ops go, Mansions of Madness is super fun. A game that has simplicity like Marvel United with a lot of flavor would be Destinies. Both Mansions and Destinies require app integration so that may be a turn off. While it has nothing to do with any of your top 10, I think Twilight Struggle is something everyone should try once as it really could expand your taste into different parts of the hobby (war games) that many people don’t realize may hold interest to them.
Ark Nova is a great game. Even though it’s long I always feel sad when it ends because there’s always so much more I want to do when I play. But the joy me and my wife have showing our zoos off to one another makes up for it and the games are usually pretty close. Marvel United from Zee is also great to see. I have way too much of it and would like to edit down my collection, especially with season 4 delivering this year and the much speculated DC United potentially coming. My heart wants it all but our shelves definitely don’t. Regardless, I love the game and it probably hovers around my top 3 along with Ark Nova. Fun top 100 this year, looking forward to more content from the dice tower crew this coming year!

@@ArtJanicek Most people. A plain list is not very useful, the thought behind is what matters. I just don't want to rewatch the videos to remember the name of this or that game that caught my attention the first time.
Yay, Tom and I now have the same number two board games of all time! Now I just have to wait for his number 41 (I think it was 41) to rise 40 places. I can wait. I'm patient.
Looking at this makes me wonder - do you forget old classic games like say 1846? Why are there no great old ones on the list? Or perhaps they are, but so far down I have not noticed? By the way is this list available in text somewhere?
I was a bit surprised this game where no where in the top 100: Belaad (Around top 80 for me) Anachrony (Top 15 for me) Brass birmingham (Top 15 for me) Mystic Battles Phanteon (Top 80 for me) Blood on the clocktower (Top 5 for me) But well this list is already full of awesome games and we had to sort some games out :)
Like Mike, I was turned onto Matt Kindt's work after owning Mind MGMT. He's actually my favorite comic creator now. His works feature nods to some of my other favorite artists - which keeps me ravenously hungry for more and more!!!! I'm like a junkyard dog in heat - I can't get enough hahaha
@@JonReid01 Since his Dark Horse Imprint, Flux House, was started, he's releasing at least one issue of a project per month. But he's frequently got multiple projects going at once. Check him out
@@thomgizziz Dang thom! You mean 😁 I was under the impression everyone on RUclips was my friend. So, from one friend to another: take a deep breath big boy. Sounds like you were having a bad night last night. Hope your having a better day today
Did you guys play Voidfall? Can't otherwise understand, how would it not end up on top of your lists... It has become favorite game of almost everyone in our group
Zee I'm with you on the People's #7. 6/10 for me, and I don't hate on popular games I LOVE wingspan, and a lot of other mainstream hobby games. Just felt like Quacks beats around the bush of it's core idea which is just a very simple push your luck game. Would much rather play Can't stop or ten or Incan gold or Push. I don't need a bunch of fluff in my push your luck games.
Question - where can I see a little consolidated list of the Top 100? It’s been fun watching all the videos, but I just want a list now . . . For research purposes . . .
They post the lists on their website (although it might take some time). They group the lists by tens (just like the videos, which they link to as well), so you have to click through them a bit.
I think Ark Nova pulled in a lot of the people that liked Terraforming Mars, plus more due to the more popular theme. It did for me at least. I loved Ark Nova, but never really played Mars. The theme helped a great deal in getting me to purchase it. And now it's my favourite game easily; despite being one of the heavier games in my collection (I'm more a mid weight euro gamer). Going back to play TM, I found it's just not as compelling (I'm def biased having played AN first).
DC United is funding right now and it shows United is Zee's #1 game of all time. What's wild is that when he reviewed it a few years ago he gave it a 7! I like Batman more than anyone in Marvel so I'm gonna jump in and finally check out this United system.
Ready Set Bet, Ark Nova and Blood Rage are three games that I really can't understand why they end up on anyone's top 100 list. Ready Set Bet hardly even felt like a game, and out of a group of five people, zero people thought it was fun, and zero people wanted to ever play it again. Blood Rage is unbalanced and does indeed induce RAGE because of it. If you enjoy feeling unlucky and bullied, then fine. Ark Nova is a snore-fest that is wildly random. Draw one of the 200 unique cards and hope that it's the one you need. Was it the one you needed? Of course not! The chance is 1 in 200.

Can we have an episode where you talk about the people's choice beyond the top 100, especially the 100-250 spots. They are still relevant and there are more than 100 good/interesting games! 😊
Wow, Tom has summoner wars still in his top 10. Incredible how it came out about the same time as Mage Wars which has disappeared but Summoner Wars still keeps going strong.
Ha ha I noticed that too. To be fair, I think that review was of ONLY the base game, which does leave an impression of “…is that it?” a little bit. Once you start plugging and playing and seeing the depth of the system does it really open up.

That’s how Zee’s grandfather did it and that’s how Zee does it. it goes without saying that that trait of necessity skips a generation.
Zee, So glad to see that The Others is still in your top 10. One of my favorite games as well.
"Dube" Imperium sounds interesting.
All people's choice games are really great. Good list people
Mike, I know you got razzed for putting Cthulhu Wars in your top 10 essential games, but what happened to it?
It’s not in your top 100? Did I miss it?
10. Twilight Struggle
9. Mansions of Madness: Second Edition
8. Race for the Galaxy
7. War of the Ring: The Card Game
6. Destinies
5. War of the Ring
4. Naga Raja
3. Freedom: The Underground Railroad
2. Kemet: Blood and Sand
1. Summoner Wars (2nd Edition)
I like your list a lot!
Its crazy how many games I've played yet havnt played a single one of your top 10. What a great time to be in the hobby! Thanks for sharing
@@TylerAndToast I mean I’d definitely recommend all of them 😂😂😂
@@funnymanfish haha 😄 My top 10.
1. Point salad
2. Architects of the west
3. Clank!
4. Santorini
5. Earth
6. Ticket to ride (Nordic countries>base>Europe)
7. Wingspan
8. Marvel united
9. King of Tokyo
10. Bonsai
What would you recommend out of yours for me based off my games?
My top 10.
1Dead Reckoning
2Dwellings of Eldervale
3Mythic Battles
4Cascadia
5Marvel United
6Massive Darkness 2
7Lands of Galzyr
8Everdell
9Dice Throne
10Nemesis
What happened to TI4?
For some reason dice tower fans are mostly eurogamers
Will these top 100 lists be posted anywhere in textual form?
Then who'd watch the video?
@@ArtJanicek Most people. A plain list is not very useful, the thought behind is what matters. I just don't want to rewatch the videos to remember the name of this or that game that caught my attention the first time.
I absolutely love marvel United. I’ve played over 50 games and still love it a lot and haven’t seen half the content.
Yay, Tom and I now have the same number two board games of all time! Now I just have to wait for his number 41 (I think it was 41) to rise 40 places. I can wait. I'm patient.
Got scared there for a second, thinking that Ready Set Bet is gone out of Tom's list. It's one of my all time favorites as well.
Looking at this makes me wonder - do you forget old classic games like say 1846? Why are there no great old ones on the list? Or perhaps they are, but so far down I have not noticed? By the way is this list available in text somewhere?
We didn't forget games like that, we are simply picking our favorite games. Age has nothing to do with it. We are picking the ones WE like best.
@@thedicetower Ok, a bit unexpected that there are no old games that old guys like you like anymore ;)
Is this done every year?
yes
I was a bit surprised this game where no where in the top 100:
Belaad (Around top 80 for me)
Anachrony (Top 15 for me)
Brass birmingham (Top 15 for me)
Mystic Battles Phanteon (Top 80 for me)
Blood on the clocktower (Top 5 for me)
But well this list is already full of awesome games and we had to sort some games out :)
Where would you guys rank Spellbound by the Lamont Brothers also any thoughts on this game
Always wondered… where does the People’s Choice list actually come from?
They had a voting poll on their website in December which you could go to and vote for your top 25 or so favourite games.
Great list, very surprised by the changes. Was Cry Havoc on Tom's top 100 I dont remember hearing it?
No it wasn't
Like Mike, I was turned onto Matt Kindt's work after owning Mind MGMT. He's actually my favorite comic creator now. His works feature nods to some of my other favorite artists - which keeps me ravenously hungry for more and more!!!! I'm like a junkyard dog in heat - I can't get enough hahaha
How frequently does Matt release new comics. And is he just the artist or writer too?
"I'm like a junkyard dog in heat"
What is wrong with you? That was totally unrelated and you aren't just around your friends. Get a grip.
"You Don't need to make a chick tract about me"😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Zee you are the voice of this person, awesome taste and totally agree with your list!
Did you guys play Voidfall? Can't otherwise understand, how would it not end up on top of your lists... It has become favorite game of almost everyone in our group
Top 10 Modern Classics
The beauty about Marvel United it is so easy to get onto the table!
Endless love to Cosmic Encounter, great picks
Zee I'm with you on the People's #7. 6/10 for me, and I don't hate on popular games I LOVE wingspan, and a lot of other mainstream hobby games. Just felt like Quacks beats around the bush of it's core idea which is just a very simple push your luck game. Would much rather play Can't stop or ten or Incan gold or Push. I don't need a bunch of fluff in my push your luck games.
@Mike - Have you played Priests of Ra? Same core mechanisms as Ra, but a new tile set, that is possibly better?
Question - where can I see a little consolidated list of the Top 100? It’s been fun watching all the videos, but I just want a list now . . . For research purposes . . .
If you google "dice tower top 100 2024 reddit", someone has made a great post consolidating their lists and has past year's lists linked too
They post the lists on their website (although it might take some time).
They group the lists by tens (just like the videos, which they link to as well), so you have to click through them a bit.
Bulgaria is pretty nice - but a long way from Iceland - but if any of you get to Sofia - it will be amazing
Did Tom have HeroScape on his list? I don’t recall seeing it and thought it was one of his top games.
Mike keeps saying: "This game is very unique".
lol, I think I see a gamblers anonymous intervention in Toms future.
I have similar experience with Ready Set Bet, everyone I ran the game for thought it was stupid.. :-D
My Top 10 Boar Games of All Time Now is:
10. Nemesis 10* Nemesis: Lockdown
6. Mage Knight - świetny klimat, świetny świat, po prostu Mage Knight !!
5. Anachrony - bardzo fajnie pomyślany świat i klimatyczna gra
4. Łowcy A. D. 2114 - o jaka ta gra jest klimatyczna i dopracowana…
3. Etherfields - klimat tej gry, mechanika i piękne grafiki urzekły mnie...
2. Scythe - klimat tej gry jest genialny... Świetnie odzwierciedla klimat konfliktu...
1. Bonfire - jak wzajemnie zazębiają się mechaniki w tej grze, to jest po prostu niesamowite !!
😉
Pro tip, when playing RSB have everyone name the horses by brainstorming or pulling out of a hat. The longer the names the better
Earth is at which rank on Mike's list? He was all about it last year.
1:21:44 What about the elephant!?!?!?
Glad to hear that Canada is your best country! Keep up the good work guys!
Very nice Game Cover behind you in purple…. What is this Game called? Nice Show btw😊
Are Zee's "Others" miniatures painted...? I can't get this to the table only because I don't want to look at/play with all the unpainted pieces! haha
I so want to upgrade my copy of Ready Set Bet with a better racetrack. I haven’t seen Tom’s but I hear it’s great.
Can we have an episode where you talk about the people's choice beyond the top 100, especially the 100-250 spots. They are still relevant and there are more than 100 good/interesting games! 😊
I came for the list. I stayed for the number transitions.
Wow, Tom has summoner wars still in his top 10. Incredible how it came out about the same time as Mage Wars which has disappeared but Summoner Wars still keeps going strong.
Zee has come a long way since his initial review of Marvel United…
Ha ha I noticed that too. To be fair, I think that review was of ONLY the base game, which does leave an impression of “…is that it?” a little bit. Once you start plugging and playing and seeing the depth of the system does it really open up.
Don't worry, Tom. I also have a big head. Most hats don't fit me lol. I'm lucky enough to have a Harry Potter beanie that glows in the dark
While I admit it can be fun, I still think C:DMD is a glorified Yahtzee with miniatures.
I hear Ct'hul'hu crossover, and can only think, oh no, he has sunk so low to becoming his own SUV.
1. Siderial Confluence
2. Cthulhu Wars
3. Ankh
4. Twilight Imperium
5. Inis
6. Pax Pamir 2ed
7. Concordia
8. Zoo Vadis
9. Root
10. Brew
That’s a very eclectic mix of games. I love it when people enjoy very different kinds of games
The app makers are waiting for Apple to make a phone capable of running the Dominion app so they CAN release it on ios. 😂😂😂
People's choice at the end, for number 3 says dube imperium lol
