Hi James,Your videos are an inspiration for me, and I really enjoy watching them! Thank you for helping me become a better guitar player! Four of my favorite guitar videos that you cover are: "Stray Cat Strut," "Bang A Gong (Get It On)," "Stuck In The Middle With You," and this video I'm commenting on. I'm an 11 year-old guitarist, I play by ear, and I have a RUclips channel that shows some of my songs, and I'm beginning to try to do some covers. My first cover is "Peaceful Easy Feeling." I've joined a small band with kids my age, and we'll probably be covering "Sunshine..." Thanks for all your fantastic covers, and please keep them coming!
Btw, Great Jam from Cream, I was 17 years old when that came out, I played Percussion for years before switching to Guitar, I always wanted to play it first, but I got into Latin Percussion. Also love the work you are putting out on other great groups, e.g., Led Zep, The Who , etc. Woodstock was my era!!
You certainly know how to pick great sounding "off the rack" guitars. I've had some of those same Gibson models, ones that are too "bright" or too "dark", but that one you're playing is just right - having that warm, creamy tone that we love from so many 1960s records. Anyway, I love all your Gibsons, and if you dont have a video showcasing your entire collection - you definitely need one!
"Well, I'll just kinda wing the solo and try to get close." I don't think I have ever been more jealous of anyone's abilities to play more than right now. What a gift you have. I guess I had better double-up on the hours I practice everyday. Sigh...lol You continue to be my favorite channel.
I've always appreciated everything you've done for us aspiring song players. If you have critics they fall into two groups those who are jealous of your talent and those who are guitar purists who think the instrument is some mysterious gift from ancient astronauts to be worshipped and awed. It's just something made for fun. You make it fun, thanks.
hi james, just stumbled onto your old site today, looking at an old pink floyd acoustic piece you played. i quickly found your last video, ending that channel. just wanted to say - good for you. too much hatred and negativity in the world and online, and 99% of the time it's anonymous. it's an enormous, global problem. glad to see you've found a way to do your thing and filter out the negativity and the pitchfork mafia. congratulations - first last
Hi James James, Just saw your last PT video. I want to (I must) say your such a gentle man. You are so right. I always like you how you did all you did on guitar. I am older too and understand you so much. It's almost emotional. But you are my hero daring to say and be your complete self. Never give up enjoying what you do. Now i go into your new channel James James all the best for you. Rob
Love how you relate the guitar to the song. Whether it's what EC played or not I don't care, it's about knowing that it's the right tonality. It keeps me thinking about this stuff. Cheers
JJ love this one, you r right every time you (we)play the lead it doesn't sound like EC cuz it's EC! heh heh. I always forget to 'rake" the strings on the main riff - Thanks for this, been working through it over the years- good pick to show us thanks man. )
Thank you James nice job on the solo and the rest of the song I play it in a&d power cords I think you know what I mean but I like your vids thanks again James Happy New year. Jay.
Nice tutorial, like that it isn't note for note. This helps people learn by ear which is crucial to learning! Kinda depressing when none of us have the Clapton hands though haha!
I learned it a while back from your video with a Lester. Looks like it is blocked now. Anyway, great stuff, a lot of fun to watch you play. And yes, you nailed the solo even if didn't remeber it note for note.
Dear James, I have been watching your videos for about three years now. I love and appreciate all of your videos as they are great choices in music and your guitar work is flawless. It's surprising and amazing really how you are able to upload like you do and play these songs so accurately. Anyway, I have been playing for three years and although I am getting better I would like to learn more by ear which I struggle with and would like to learn a lot of blues. Have you any advice as to how to get better at both of those? Thanks again.
I've studied this song for years. I'm 68 and started playing when I was around 15. If you listen carefully to the studio version, I think EC occasionally played a barred D7 by lifting his pinky off the 4th string.
I would love to see you add some Paul Simon or Simon & Garfunkel tunes to the collection. It'd be awesome to hear you play songs like My Little Town, Run That Body Down, Cecilia, Baby Driver, Keep the Customer Satisfied, and Paranoid Blues. Although, I'd be grateful for just about any song. Anyway that's my selfish request haha.
Great Lesson as always James (plus the top E string was grand no final adjustment required lol ) would love to see you do a whole batch of Thin Lizzy Tunes since you are back on the rock numbers .
Love this. Eric at Knebworth '90 and the Cream reunion in 2005 are faves. Have you posted any Blind Faith vids? My son is learning to play, and I saw that he'd been watching tons of your tutorials (he's learning super fast, btw. Thanks). You teach a ton of who we're obsessed with; The Beatles and Zeppelin, and not just the mainstream hits. \m/
Lovely to you see you back up and still going! I was knocked to see you like the Creation. Making Time vid was awesome. What’s the rig for that sound you’re getting? Amp and pedals?
Check out Funkadelic. They can get very heavy. Lots of fuzzy, chunky licks and grooves. I highly recommend them to anyone who likes Cream, Zeppelin, and well, anyone who likes heavy, guitar-driven classic rock. Anything before Cosmic Slop is going to have a raw, dirty sound. Cosmic Slop and beyond is more produced and clean. All are great!
Naw, I can’t do that. However, I will, off the top of my head, type all the albums. Now you can copy/paste from here and listen to an upload of the entire album somewhere on RUclips. Start right here with Parliament: First Thangs. Just do it. Then, they changed their name to Funkadelic and made these albums, which I believe are in chronological order: Funkadelic (s/t); Free Your Mind...And Your Ass Will Follow; Maggot Brain; America Eats Its Young; Cosmic Slop; Standing On the Verge Of Getting It On; Hardcore Jollies; and Tales of Kidd Funkadelic. Then, when you’re finished with Funkadelic, put on Parliament: Chocolate City. All the songs on all those albums are the songs you should check out. Sweet dreams!
+James James I've been playing "Hard to Handle" Crowes, at B 7th and F# at the 10th then back to B then down to A, E, F# in the first position. I hope I said that right so don't pile on people. This ones very similar. The D to C then back and walk up to the F note on the G string at the 10th and then A to C to Gmaj is all so similar to what I'd been practicing. I was shocked when I tried this. I don't have any experience with the picking and soloing. That would be another story. My fingers are now glassy and I have the strength and stamina to get through songs that aren't in the first position. Your teaching works! And I really like the last few lessons where you called out the chords as you switched them. Thanks again!
+James James Oh, and I've been practicing all these lessons on a Gibson L140 acoustic to build strength and because I love that acoustic sound. It has a bluesy, rock sound to it. And it'll actually rock pretty good plugged into the Marshall. Has an amazing tone.
+James James Transferred some of these skills to "The Wind Cries Mary". I wish I had been practicing up here and with notes a long time ago. I'm learning at a faster rate now. Happy boy!
I've always wondered, how come on the PT channel you did not cover the solo, but on this one you did? Did the remastered version put Clapton's solo or something?
+Oliver Oliver Hmm. I can still see it, but maybe that's just because it's my channel. Anyway, the solo's there. It's pretty awful, though, so you're not missing much.
"Not sure if I remember how to play the solo, I'll kinda just wing that part."
*Proceeds to play the solo perfectly*
That’s classic James
@@ricardocalmza Yeah I remember he did the same thing on his cover of You Shook Me. classic
this guy is good, lol.
I know right?! Master of self deprecation then BAM perfection 🤣
Do you have a separate room in your house just for all your t-shirts?
For someone who wasn't sure if they remembered the solo, you pulled it off perfectly! Awesome job.
It's been a long week. And I come here and find a wonderful batch of homework assignments. My idea of bliss. Thanks James.

I will be forever reminded of Goodfellas when I hear this song. 👍🏻 nice. 🤘🏻

Fan of your vids from the beginning of PT ... This new one is a real treat ... You are amazing AND you did this one off the cuff !
Great rendition of this classic, especially the solo. I never get tired of hearing EC.
Super advice about listening to it a 1000 times. Love your hands on videos.
Crazy Train is overrated, but Cream is always good!
I've always appreciated everything you've done for us aspiring song players. If you have critics they fall into two groups those who are jealous of your talent and those who are guitar purists who think the instrument is some mysterious gift from ancient astronauts to be worshipped and awed. Nailed the solo! Really, nailed the whole thing.
Every video rocks! Really appreciate your talent, and taking the time to upload all these cool vids. Thanks
Splendid! Well done you. Loved it.
I would have skipped the first two on RUclips as well! Great video on a great song
Thanks for your lessons, a great help , really appreciate them

"Next one is Ted Nugent, ain't gonna do that either...". Hahaha, can't say I blame you :)
Very nice as always sir.
Excellent job on Sunshine of your Love....
very well done. thy j; another awessome tutorial.
you're the best on YT buddy, you've helped a lot with my gtr playing
How about the hendrix version of Sargent peppers? That's pretty heavy
Love how you relate the guitar to the song. Whether it's what EC played or not I don't care, it's about knowing that it's the right tonality. It keeps me thinking about this stuff. Cheers
Backed by the great Ginger Baker. Wow. Just WOW.
incredible talent!!!
Hi James, I wanted to say Hi, and I think you are SPOT ON , in your playing Skills and Lessons. I learned a lot from your video's. Thanks A MILLION!!!

That was outstanding !
Killer! Thanks, James.
Brilliant Job James 👍
James, Outstanding !Dan
you love your reverb/delay! I love your videos! wanting to grasp the solo on this(with the "blue moon melody) and it helped! thnx !
Great job, man, thanks for your time
Don
Excellent!!
Nevermind the lesson, hearing that - Hey all! is music to my ears ha
Thank you James nice job on the solo and the rest of the song I play it in a&d power cords I think you know what I mean but I like your vids thanks again James Happy New year. Jay.
totally awesome!!!
Great job James! love it!
James Nice job on Sunshine of Your Love. Huge fan of your lessons! Would love to see you do Neil Young Powderfinger!!
Nice tutorial, like that it isn't note for note. This helps people learn by ear which is crucial to learning! Kinda depressing when none of us have the Clapton hands though haha!
Blue moon, I saw you standing alone.
I'm enjoying the cream stuff you've been posting lately! Would love to see you wing it on some more Clapton solos.
oh my gosh you are amazing. thank you
Awesome.
Fantastic brother!

+Kevin Fitzgerald There are S&G songs on the privettricker channel.
Can I ask what type amp you are going through? Love that tone. Thanks!
+Tim Brannen That's through a Peavey Vypyr 100.
+James James Very nice! Thanks.
+James James great vid as usual. how do you like the vypyr?
Great Lesson as always James (plus the top E string was grand no final adjustment required lol ) would love to see you do a whole batch of Thin Lizzy Tunes since you are back on the rock numbers .
+James Coughlan I thought about tweaking that high E string, but I'm trying to let go of that obsession. :)
Bien JAimito
Muy chingon
Thanks!
Great non softy song choice.
Love it bro
James james I’m in love!!! Yea.
ya that's good james S.S of your L. good job nailedit!!

The Barre chords at the 10th-8th-10th frets are Barred 7th chords; pinkie picked up on the D string....just sayin; love your vids!!
Sweet!
Privettricker, your the ginchiest!. 🎸
sounds to me you remember this riff very well bad ass.
It's not the note - it's the feel------------------>

What's your favorite songs by them? I don't feel like going through their discography atm..

Maggot brain - funkadelic.
awesome
Nice cover as always!
Dynamite!
Hey, that was great! I feel like I could maybe get a little of this going!
+Troy Strain Of course you can.

What amp are you using in this clip? Fantastic playing, hands down the best Sunshine of your love cover on youtube!
Peavey Vypyr 100
More Fresh Cream please!
Great video man. Really jealous of your guitar playing skills!
Any chance you might do a cover of Iggy & The Stooges at a later date?
Cheers.
James , I've loved your new channel as much as your other Channel.
Gonna to see the Skins/ Ravens tomorrow???
What effects do you use??
How do you get that tone man? :)
Idk if this is a cover or a tutorial but either way you NAILED IT!
Watch the whole thing - it’s both.
@@jamesjames9275 i know, it was a joke and a nod to how smooth it was 😁
How long did it take you to learn the lead? That's the only part I can't play.
Is this using the major or minor pentatonic?
Both.
Every other DDCD is a slide with a hint of emphasis on the 3rd. Choppy, then slide up.
man I need a 335...
Yes, you do.
What overdrive and delay do you use for rock
I think it’s a D7 and C7 bar chord
Anyone catch the moving star on his shirt at the 4 min mark?
It was some dust floating by...
I tried posting my cover of this song on my channel, and it was blocked... twice. How were you able to upload this?
+Oliver Oliver No idea. RUclips's enforcement of copyright rules doesn't make any sense to me.
+James James ...or to anybody else.
What verison of the A chord are you using
What amp do you use ?
That was a Peavey Vypyr 100. I later switched to a Peavey Classic 50.
I've always wondered, how come on the PT channel you did not cover the solo, but on this one you did? Did the remastered version put Clapton's solo or something?
I think you should watch that PT version again.
I can't. I think you deleted it?
+Oliver Oliver Hmm. I can still see it, but maybe that's just because it's my channel. Anyway, the solo's there. It's pretty awful, though, so you're not missing much.
It's all good! No one is perfect. But you did that one on a Les Paul and this on a 335, I thought Clapton did it on a Strat?
+Oliver Oliver In the Cream period, Clapton was a Gibson man (Les Paul, 335, Firebird, SG). The Strat came after Cream.
Clapton should have put more work into creating a better solo for this great song. He really dropped the ball on this one.
James, how are you doing?
Pretty sure its a marshall but what a great guy
+james reid You're pretty sure what's a Marshall?
And since you mentioned Crazy Train, would you take EVH or Randy Rhoads?
+Oliver Oliver Randy, by a mile.
+James James Totally agree. Randy was a monster!
schepler2 Although I think he copied EVH in some form or factor.
Yup. I'd like to see JJ play the solo, or at least his version of it!
You
e right. Although I tried getting him to play EVH's Guitar solo on "Beat It'.
