There are police cars of all shapes and sizes. However one constant accusation of the police force is that they all drive "hellcats" when chasing down people during a pursuit. 99% of the time this isn't the case, and the driver of this BMW didn't want to believe it. So let's break down this pursuit and why I think it's one of the craziest of them all I've seen. Enjoy!

Fun fact, if you run get PIT'ed and your car is totaled, you're getting a big fat check of $0 from the insurance company. Additionally, the police department will bill you for the damages to their cruiser. And if you happen to kill someone in an accident caused by the pursuit its not involuntary manslaughter. Its going to be straight up murder charge. Think extra hard if you shouldn't just man up and take the ticket.

@@MadWilli Thats crazy. But it is upsetting how often motorcycles run, drive around with no plates, and punch mirrors, flip people off, and get mad if police actually chase. The exposure ive had to that community is so bad that its hard for me to ever feel remorse for anyone on a bike. Not attacking you personally, just sharing my opinion on bikes.

The issue with car chases like danger of innocent civilians get hurt during these chase like the Escalade. Thankfully there is new police equipment that is attached to the bumper of the cars and jams a wheel from a fleeing suspect stopping the chase with minimum casualties
Oh yeah the cops don't care about random people getting hit either like that escalade, or that car in front of the escalade that got hit too. Cops do have a duty to intervene... and I live near Milwaukee which used to have a very restricted pursuit policy which completely backfired (Everyone would run, never register their cars, no plates etc) but still there has to be a balance.

South GA does have quite a few hellcats and ZL1s but it's mostly the Sheriff's Offices that sit on I75 in the afternoon/night
dang. I've never seen anything higher than a Mustang GT pursuit car in Sumter SC. In my area, GSP really don't use anything more than a 5.7 Challenger (it might be a 6.4, not sure). I bet a police ZL1 looks wicked though.

Another police chase although not as exciting is when the tesla police car chases after a mustang, just the sheer ease for the tesla to keep up is just amazing
I saw that video. That was something else. That Tesla kept up with the Mustang. The Tesla would back off for a bit when they came up on packs of cars or something, Mustang would slow down thinking they lost the Tesla, and next thing you know the Tesla was right back on its butt. They only reason the Tesla stopped chasing is because the officer was told to stop pursuing. The officer was actually a pretty good singer too.
That pit really Escalated things.

Georgia Cops in general are built different.
Lived there for two decades and there's only one group that can top them: Georgia State Patrol.
I never got to participate, but at Bandimere Raceway in Colorado (unfortunately closed down a few months ago) used to do test and tune night with the Colorado State Patrol, and you could race them in the 1/4mi.

"This much snow, and everybody freaked out" I was teaching welding at a tech school in Atl when that happened, every street was a sheet of ice, it rained, and then froze solid in 30 minutes, the snow was not the problem. I was able to drive on it in a front wheel drive Ford Focus, but even that was tricky, I had to sleep on a friends couch for 2 days before enough ice melted off to make it back to Rome Ga, and there was still ice patches then.

I live in Marietta and I see GSP hellcats quite often, I've even seen the GSP Camaro ZL1. I guess the state is just trying to make sure they can maintain eye contact with all the fast cars in the Atlanta area. The 5.7 chargers usually do all the heavy lifting from what I've seen when it comes to pits.
Atlanta has some of the fastest/slowest traffic ever and never ending construction. It's stupid to try and run...just suck it up and deal with your ticket lol And if you've ever driven through Downtown Atlanta...that sucks alone...I can't imagine driving anywhere at speed.
Oh, and I miss the toll booths on 400. I used to launch out of that thing like I was on fire lol.

I think the most common police package FCA car (not sure about SUVs) is the 5.7L with an AWD 8HP trans. They do not come from factory with AWD on the 5.7L.
I saw a chase a while back where an idiot would get on the highway, take the right lane exit, cut left over the bridge, and get back on the highway going the opposite direction. And he did this like 4-5 times, basically running the same 2 mile stretch of road over and over.
To non car people all challengers are hellcats and all Porsche 911s are the same car 😂

Ive done a lot of stupid things with most my cars except for running from the police. I'll just take my ticket and go home.
Insurance wouldnt cover all my years fighting and hard work and pain just to get to the point to get the car i wanted. Then years of money, parts,work and love building it to the picture in my head.

police car....a mustang foxbody 5.0+. The sound under the hood sounded pretty loud. lol
I think another youtuber sort of confirmed that cop cars have options that civilian versions don't get. They bought like a decommissioned Charger police car and explained that it would have a beefier motor, could be equipped with AWD with a V8 and more. While not necessarily Hellcat, they definitely have factory tuned cars for sure.

I LITERALLY just came back from Atlanta and it just never makes sense on how bad traffic is ESPECIALLY on 285. I’ve seen several different accidents in the past two weeks pretty much in the same spot. An also I have seen Trackhwaks and 392’s on the 80/90 toll road in Indiana.
Back in the day up here in MI, Hazel Park had a notchback fox body that would sit around 9 mile and I-75. It was burgundy, unmarked other than the ghost lettering on *one* side. They had a black 4th gen F-body camaro too decked out the same way. This was around 1998/99.

Yep, there was literally a layer of ice covering the entire road with no salt or brine. On top of that, most people dont have winter tires in Georgia because we usually don't get snow. A lot of people ended up trapped on the road with no way to move their vehicle.
Then, because there were so many disabled vehicles on the interstates, delivery trucks couldn't get to grocery stores, so some places began running out of food.
I love Atlanta been here since 2016 but these dudes make it harder for the rest of us. Cops everywhere now a days

4:24 license plates are extremely hard to read on dash cam, especially at night since any little reflection off the plate washes it out.
If your at night and can gap a police cars chasing you about a mile or half a mile distance. If you see an intersection, turn off your lights completely. They only see your lights from that distance.
Smooth brain theory is you will lose the cops in traffic like in the movies.
Just one state north I BOMBED snowy roads in my jdm swapped prelude, 200hp H22 with LSD and short ratio gearbox. I was once completely sideways down a hill of ice waiting for the pavement on the main road to arrest my slide to i could immediately start driving forward in sketchy traffic. All the most fun stuff in cars is sketchy, when you get away with it.

The police interceptor chargers and challengers are usually 5.7's with a 5speed auto and AWD, they did something like that from 09-11 aswell but they put that setup in the newer bodies for law enforcement

mate my car got written off three days ago because some guy on a police chase smashed into me in a stolen car, he then went wrong way on the highway and got away thank god i have the dash camera footage!
Some places it's policy not to chase when they go the wrong way for public safety. So now criminals are using that tactic to get away. So I would say that policy is backfiring pretty badly.

Their 5.7 V8 pkus an extra 250 lbs puts the 0-60 @ 5.8 to 6 sec. Its still 3/4 of a sec quicker than a V6 challenger or charger. Plus a top speed of 148 when M cars are limited to 155 unless the competition model, means the V8 pd car will keep suspect in sight.

The main thing for the police interceptors are the tune. Its a full tune and a drivetrain synchronization tune as well. Apparently only ford has it strictly for the police cars.

Theres a Sheriffs office using a supercharged 5.0 S550. You can hear the whine when he got on it on the freeway. Has a rear spoiler and those ugly Ford GT style resr lights. They definitely picked it off an impound lot and despite the resr lights its glorious
Good drivers that know what they’re doing and where they’re going get away all the time. These a few channels on RUclips that proves it. The channel wheres981 is the one that comes to mind. Going through New York shaking the cops all the time in heavy traffic. This dude in the BMW didn’t know where he was going and that’s blatantly obvious here. Probably wasn’t even from Atlanta.
I think if police had faster cars people wouldn’t even try. The fact that they keep up with scats in a ford suv is insane.
I remember that video and thought the cops had opportunities earlier in the chase where if they did the PIT that it was not going to damage and possibly hurt someone else.

I lived in a smaller town in California and we have zero Pursuit policy so as soon as you break double the speed limit and there's any traffic the cops will discontinue the pursuit however if it's a CHP that's a different story they don't stop

This will be my 10th year in law enforcement. I never understand why people run. One guy ran to the airport. I was cracking up. I can’t think of a WORSE place to run than the f**king airport. Dozens of federal police. Dozens of local police. Dozens of security officers. And HUNDREDS of cameras 🤦🏾♂️ We caught him in 37 seconds (no exaggeration) 😂😂
