Thanks for posting this video. Finger detangling has helped me retain length. It's a priority for me . I enjoy it and it has helped me learn to treat my hair with kindness. I find it relaxes me and is a form of self love and care.
I do light finger detangling before using a comb. If I feel a lot resistance with a comb, I stop and use my fingers again. I don’t have the patience to do thorough 100% finger detangling
I started finger detangling 3 months ago and I'm loving it so far.. It consumes time but I noticed less breakage and shedding. My fine strands hate combs ,but I noticed thickness, I'm gonna continue throughout the year and see how it goes.
Finger Detangling has helped my hair retain so much length and thickness. I also discovered that my hair began to get less tangled overall the longer I refrained from using combs and brushes!
I don’t wear wash-n-goes either because my hair gets entirely too tangled. I normally wear my hair in about 14 plaits and detangle them once a week to avoid matting. One at a time I unbraid each plait, detangle it with water, aloe vera gel, conditioner and coconut oil and re-braid it. This will take me the better part of a day. I wash my hair using the same method, but it takes even longer since washing causes tangling. I cannot and do not wash my hair while braided or twisted. I wash it loose, I just don’t loosen it all at once. I loosen and wash it a section at a time. I often divide my wash day into two days. I always deep condition with each wash. 💜
I have tailbone-length hair too. I finger detangle exclusively. The only time I use a comb is on my straightened hair. I only straighten my hair every year or two.
@@ObaaYaaJones: Thank you! The straightening process takes forever, but I don’t hate it necessarily. I have to be honest, I really enjoy wearing my hair straight. If it weren’t for fear of heat damage, I would do it more often. I don’t have young children anymore so I can take the time to finger detangle properly. It’s kind of relaxing. 💜
@@Face_Reality: Professional stylists say whatever is going to keep you coming back to the salon. Not all, of course, but most. A lot of them say color and chemicals aren’t damaging either. My hair doesn’t respond well to heat that is too intense or applied too often. I’ve been there and speak from experience. ❤️
I just took out the protective style I had in my hair for about 3 months I definitely did some finger detangling. I was more able to feel the knots and separate them Instead of just ripping through. As usual I sprayed some water to make it easier as I worked through the tangles while taking my braids down. I am definitely on team finger detangling.
You and your hair are beautiful. I have weak, coarse, curly thin hair. I was losing hair at the crown and temples. I stopped dying and combing my hair. Immediately my hair started to grow like weeds!!!! I am retaining length and thickness with little to no split ends nor breakage. Amazing! Watching your video let’s me know that I am headed in the right direction. So, I can press towards the goal of having beautiful, long, resilient hair!
Thank you so much for this video. Ibig chopped and I have been natural for 10 years but I haven't seen good progress. Only back half is past armpit. I spent years ripping through my hair with a comb. And now I got the patience to finger detangle. But I knew I would need a comb, instinctively i knew I can't get all the shed hairs and it would cause tangles. But I didn't know when to use a comb. Now I will comb regularly and gently every 3 months I use good detangling creme, anything with marshmallow root, slippery elm. I think gentle finger detangling is a game changer for me, along with the herbal oil scalp massages and I believe I will get that length retention.
Thank you so much Obaa for your videos. To me, they are relatable, to the point and very practical. Keeping my hair in protective style 95% of the time works well for me. I finger detangle my hair and use a comb when there is more shedded hair than my fingers can handle which means every 2 months or so. Even when I use a comb, I combine it with finger detangling. I have never tried wash N goes but I know this style is not for me. My strands are fine and shrink up so much that looking at my hair, I would be like REALLY!!!😀 My hair and knots are besties. If I do not add moisture weekly and let it dry out, in 2 weeks, my hair will look like a web of entangled mess. I can never understand how the strands are able to cross over to form knots while in protective style and stretched 🤦🏽♀️ Anyway, I came to believe that often the things I find annoying keep life interesting and it goes for my hair as well. Just take a deep breath, all is good😀 I have been natural for 4.5 years and still learning about my hair. I recently learned that my scalp is a diva and demand her own care time. This year, I was reminded that regular TLC is better (I knew and practice that at the beginning of my journey) than long sessions of hair pampering every month or so.
Very good video. I just started finger detangling but I only do it when I have conditioner in my hair so it’s much easier for me. I have done it twice in one week, and I noticed that I have less breakage. Like there was a small amount for hair that came out. I am excited to see the future results
I've been subscribed to you from since the beginning and honey I am seeing your growth and confidence. I really enjoy your videos. I didn't have much success in the past when I finger detangled because I didnt have a proper technique. When is the next challenge ?I am at WL but my goal is TBL for now.
To be sincere with you my dear Obaa Yaa, you are really a Natural hair Expert💯👌👍 Finger detangling has been a great help to my hair, and this has enabled me to grow my hair faster. Thank you XOXO much and I thank God so much for making it possible for me to come across your channel. Stay blessed and stay healthy. 🙏🙏🙏🙏❤
Recently I decided to go finger detangling only, so, this video helped me learn a lot about doing it well. You have a new subscriber…..❤️ from London. Thanks. 👍🏽
I started finger detangling since August, so far so good and I had to use comb just today, it's just as you said......and I found this video today.. thank you
I tried the finger de tangling years ago and I noticed that it did more harm than good. My hair was thining. Idk if I was doing something wrong or it’s not for me.
I mostly finger detangle, but sometimes I have to use a comb on my ends because my hair gel gets gucky on the ends. This is hard on my thin fine 4C hair, but for the most part I have retained a great deal of length. thank s for your tips.
Finger detangling is always the best.No doubt about it because there is a special romance between the fingers and the hair.Just like your Hubby mentioned in your last video," His hair loves finger detangling "😅😅😅😅. Thanks for sharing. N.B: The more the fingers , the better the detangling 😉😉😉😉😉😉
I use to do finger detangling and I got a trim by a natural hair stylist and she recommended a detangling brush since finger detangling doesn’t really dent shoe hair all the way.
I love finger detailing but one thing I always question is, how do I know that the scalp of my hair is well detangle a without using a brush/comb? How do you know you thoroughly detangled your scalp/roots ?
With finger detangling, I am never able to have my hair completely free from tangles. However I make sure to get grid of massive knots and tangles which would lead to an even bigger knot or tangle. If my fingers are able to go through my roots with minimum resistance, then thats enough detangling for me.
Spray with water and conditioner and it helps. I tried it today I have 3c but a lot of it and it took about 15 minuets. Less hair shedding. Try it and see how long it takes YOU everyone is different
Try using an oil on your dry hair and finger detangle before shampooing; doing that has cut my total wash day in half. It's been such a blessing from God. I wish I was doing this sooner.
Side effects of finger detangling: Bottled up Anger issues, lack of patience for anything else, daydreaming of recyclable arms. 😬😭 #helpusJesus
🤣🤣🤣 I should have added this because it's so true at times 😅😅😅

Every professional says that waiting at least a month between straightening is enough. There's no scientific reason to wait a year or two....

Hey what detangling products you use?
It's either water and olive oil or okro gel.
If you blow dry your hair before styling can I ask what blow dryer you use of which one you think is best?
I don't blow dry my hair. 😊
