  • Today, I am showing you how to make my German Chocolate Cake recipe easy at home in your own kitchen. It's not an airy box cake. This is my mom's recipe. It is an old fashioned German Chocolate Cake that is soooo moist and very filling. A piece of this cake is quite satisfying!
This classic German Chocolate Cake frosting is absolutely the best! You cook it for 12 minutes and then mix in coconut and pecans for the best homemade coconut pecan frosting you ever tasted! This is the traditional German Chocolate cake icing.
Do you need a great recipe for the next Octoberfest? Make this German Chocolate Cake from scratch and you will impress everyone with your baking skills. I'm sure it will be a big hit!
Did you know...German Chocolate Cake is NOT named after the German country? Actually, it is credited to have originated from an American baker named Samuel German who developed a type of dark baking chocolate.
This recipe and many others are available at griffithscookbook.com

I've never heard of sifting the batter on a cake.
My momma used her shower gifts for the rest of her life. The measuring cup had no red markings left. A stock pot would wobble on the burner and the cast iron pan was from an Australia high school friend. I used it until the handle snapped off. Wonderful memories and meals. They were the greatest generation!
    Thanks for the great videos!

I made your recipe, halved. I put it in a silicone bundt pan. I live below sea level and it took 40 minutes at 350degrees Fahrenheit. Perfect. I just made frosting without the pecans...including coconut. Oh ... in the frosting I substituted vanilla extract with lemon juice. Yes, I cooked the frosting, NO EGGS ADDED. Delightful results!

Loved the cake, looks so so good. The frosting looks as delicious......yummy. I can smell it and taste it and I may have to make some! :-) I have never heard of putting the cake mix through the sifter before baking but mother did sift all the flour and the baking powder and baking soda together and sift all of them together. :-)
Your mother looks lovely indeed. You take after her a lot. I love whatever it is you have been doing, your glow shows and you look just lovely! Love the hair do as well. It touched my heart when you spoke of missing your mother. We six girls were speaking of mom the other day and of the simple things we had.....no fancy things as we do these days. The good old days for sure. Like you, the spatula and the wooden spoon were threatened but rarely needed as we know the sound in moms voice if she had a difficult day. LOL Bless their hearts. Their prides and joys were all their children and grandchildren......as well as their favorite foods that everyone loved.............bless their hearts...........same for dad!
Thank you for the memories and the delicious recipes!
