Not suprising the axle went wobbly at the knees, you guys had the biggest slicks a 253 has ever seen, and then a manual as well 😂

Agree you guys made the right call mounting the screen the way you did - i know you said it still functions fine covered up partially but would drive me insane having the edges obscured by the dash with it behind

You're really swapping purity for practicality. In both my '03 VY utes I wanted to put in a USB connection but there was no place to put them. I then remembered that Holden at the time had the smokers pack which was a $690 option. A trip to the wreckers later, I scored 2 of them for $20 each. The utes Smokers Pack was already pre-wired by Holden, so after getting my USB connectors in the Smokers Pack, I ripped out the small centre storage compartment & away it goes. The ashtray stores my cables when not in use.
Great video guys, you did well stuffing about but you got there & found the high beam dip switch not functioning so I reckon it's good that you found out now than on the street.
Better in the back, in my opinion, as you can hide the wires and will match the other gauges.

Purity has it place, but when it comes to performance, you need to know what's going on. I mean take the Fairlane, that thing has got more sensors than a patient in a ICU, ask me how I know. Good Luck with Ultima Challenge, hoping to make it. It may no hurt to drop an extra half litre of Oil in each Car, just in case. 👍👍
For all dash led lights call mako motorsports they make great dash lights with the symbol on it eg battery light high beam light handbrake light

Boys... basic fault finding start simple , Fuse, dipper switch then light switch and multimeter is your friend.
I made 150rwkw with my 253 hq and sniper setup, this was after am hour or 2 of running and driving at summernats only and first full throttle pulls were at the dyno there, still using an rae dizzy like you had which is not ideal for the cam profile and having issues like you had so will be replaced with a hyperspark soon.
My setup is decent cam and roller rockers, flat tops and thin mls head gaskets to increase comp a little further so they respond well to a cam and comp!
Hoping for closer to 180kw after more tuning and timing control 👌
I've got the perfect upgrade for the hq my friend LS1 forged 383 stroker and a built box to go with it im not really interested in selling it but if it's something you would be interested in we can work something out👍

That dyno result must make you thirsty for a better cam and compression! I was talking to a bloke at the tip last week, had a commodore cup 253 motor in a tonner making 300hp, sounded amazing.
That axle is as bent as an elephants Wang 🤣

Stuff purity. If you drive it there is nothing wrong with a few modern upgrades 👌🏼 only thing I would have done is neater cable routing but as an auto sparky with OCD that’s all the time for me 😅
I remember my dad in his then brand new HQ 308 trimatic bending an axle like that when his car was 7 weeks old. It happened dragging our boat out of the water up the ramp. He knew a dealer pretty close about 80 klms away and just got another axle assembled sent up on the bus. He fitted it in the Caravan park where we were staying.
All the other gauges look recessed which throws off the reverse mount (in my opinion anyway). I reckon it'd look better if you 3D print a little fascia that recesses it to match, that also tapers down to match the screen size - avoiding the awkward double bezel look.

The holley sniper screen definitely looks better on the outside . A holley efi 12.3" dash would look awesome in the hq . But at about $4500 it's a big chunk of 💸 .

@@HackshopGarage they are a awesome dash with lots of different functions and display options but my last car I bought cost me less vp v8 ute for 4g

Also when you get the axles and diff redone any chance you can go into the costs of axles and labour? Even if it’s not what you paid, just so us others know options and costs, and cost on the tru track

3D print just a small gauge tunnel to adjust.
On my hq I used the spare warning light spot for my high beam, the red doesn't bother me,
3M Dual lock mega Velcro would have worked well too

Why not try opening the clock hole to make it squarer so the entire screen can be seen when mounted behind?

Possibly but it put a lot of stress on the wire bending at such an extreme angle

It slots in the side of the screen mate, we can still get it in and out in place

HQ 4 door gts aren't rare people have just been asking rediculas money seems people chuck shit at the wall and see what sticks, a car is only worth what someone will pay for them, a Good example is HDT VE Group 3 & A retros, if you buy some parts like wheels and spoilers from them you can pay $300 they will give you a improved tag, people who do that start selling them as HDT's which they are not and ask big money but they are still only VE SS/SSV with some wheels and a spoiler and not HDT's, HDT wont sell you anything that identify as group cars with out a genuine HDT build no, so with the government wanting electric cars by 2030 jury is out on what will happen with petrol cars, my self I have a HDT VE G3 with a huge 98mm turbo on fully forged 427LS which will be running on E85 which has less amission than petrol car, so do what you want to it

As much as nothing beats the sound of a V8 (253 or otherwise).. It's insane to think that a Toyota corrola has 25% more horsepower (base 126kw) than a 4.2L... Amazing how far technology has come....
All part of playing with classics, sometimes what seems like the simplest of jobs takes the longest.

I was all for hacking the dash at first but came around to the outside mount as well - glad you were flexible enough to not just stick with the original idea (and you can always go that way in future if you want)
