Mr. Bremmer seems to be one of the most informative individual. He thinks and analyzes, as well, is very deeply into introspectiveness He didn't just learn this reading books alone. He truly has great peoples skills. I can't wait to read his book. Enjoyed this video, and what he informed us with.

I appreciate the honesty of the speaker. He talked about indispensable America -- those free market and human rights principles he seems so cherish about, and also admitted his hometown is more important than others -- a concept I would laugh at.
IMHO, the real reason why indispensable America is not a viable strategy is because the so-called American values are just tools to achieve American interest but nothing more. It is so fundamental, so no strategy can overcome it. Yes, US is facing challenges, but the reality is the world is in the process of becoming much fairer than before. No country needs someone else to police over them -- the US model is simply out.

Well you are wrong about everything. Our trade GDP is 15 percent and half of that is with Mexico and Canada. In addition we just became energy independent so our interest with trade with the rest of the world is going to dramatically change because energy is free here so all manufactures are coming back to US and Mexico. And don’t get me started on demographics. You sir are way off!!!

I noticed he mentioned Breton woods in a response. That seems to come up a lot in talks about any sort of global finance. Not sure I get what that is.

You probably have googled it by no but Breton woods is a ski lodge in New Hampshire where the americas made a deal. They made a deal. After world war 2 they realized they were the only military and economy of scale. But the Russian threat was large and scary. They needed an alliance they needed protection from an enemy beyond the ocean. So they made this deal, America would protect trade lines between its Allies as long as we get to fight the soviets the way we wanted to. This created nato and was the start of the globalized trade network the world is dependent on. The Americans subsidized their manufacturing to other nations and as that kicked off the number of members I the system grew and the bigger the globalized system became to the point where we let China in to fight the soviets and let the Russians in after the fall of the soviet empire. Breton woods is the reason you can get your smartphone is made in probably ten countries and why humanity has been able to have the best food security it has ever had in it's history. It's the modern global economic order. That oddly enough started in the largest ski resort in new hampshire

He says America is broken. Yet he wants to perpetuate America's role as a big brother and send drones to kill as required. America's interests are not the same as the rest of the whole. The UN (and the Security Council - without the power of veto) should be the platform to adjudicate matters. If you want to be respected, you should respect others first.

Nearly 50% of disposable income is American globally....The only market that really matters to the US is its home market, followed by NAFTA the rest matter not...The Developed nations other than the US ,have a demographic/economic death spiral unfolding in the next 20 years and China's one child policy makes China look like western Europe demographically ...The 3rd world has basically no disposable income, demographics look better...But they have little to no money...:)

The lecturer had come a long way and into the center from the "Russia is a Petro station" mantra. I think before, it was all about give money to tell you what you want to hear but now they are speaking 50% truth to powers and the world population about mistakes and future directions. Pretty soon they will be 100% right but too little too late.

China is not a revolutionary power and China is not an aggressive power. There is one way around conflict. But that doesn't mean there won't be unhappiness or accidental incident. But China-US mutual benefits and the fact that they are both independent players in the world will lead to a new configuration that fits both.

It's easy for China to have a coherent foreign policy/strategy -- they are a one party autocracy.
Also: The US government has an $18T debt, but US corporations are swimming in money. Americans now have more (non-military) influence in the world through our corporations than through our government.

SilvanaDil Corporations swimming in money, America’s non military influence? Isn’t that the definition of Fascism?

Because US only consider her interest first. In any situation, US wanted to play a part, in the name of democracy(?), but always designed as such to front-case US interest. Too many times , ...

Rule of law is the most treasure part of western values, and the Chinese are adopting it. The Chinese know what is good and bad, they are selecting those beneficial to them. It is the west (US included) that insist the Chinese to xyrox everything western. I would say Chinese should not. Because many western values have given way as seen in today world.
If the west do not shake up themselves, and is willing to play fair game, not only China, very soon India, Mexico, Brazil, Indonesia etc will surpass the US.

There is a fourth choice: America as a hired gun, which is between 1 and 2. We lead and protect whoever needs us, but we send them a bill for every service rendered.
