Something that's been left out of this video is that in general, Apple Pay is also more secure than contactless. Literally the first thing you see when you go to use it is a Face ID prompt. In addition, the value transmitted to the card reader can only be used once afterwards. A maliciously modified reader cannot possibly charge you multiple times, and people attempting to get close to people and use contactless through people's wallets won't be able to get your details.
Sad. Your country should just adopt policies like India, every payment app are mandatory to sync with each other here. If apple keeps on trying "only works with apple thing", "only safe in apple" they will be left out, they should rather try "works everywhere", "safety for everyone".

In Poland 100% of merchants accept Apple Pay; to be specific 100% of card terminals accept contactless payments, including Apple Pay, so whenever you can pay by card, you can also use Apple Pay. It's weird that it's not accepted everywhere in the U.S. - the very first country Apple Pay was introduced.
In Hungary too we have a rule that says since 2020 i guess that every bank terminal needs to have contact less payment so apple pay is an option everywhere
@@CatCafeLIVE I’m sorry what? 😂 I’m so confused about your comment I don’t know where to start. First, of course card terminal won’t tell the difference between normal card and Apple Pay because it’s the same thing for them. The essence of Apple Pay is to keep your card details private and it’s happening because iPhone is not transmitting your actual card number but so-called Device Only Account Number, which is a token of your card. Each token have different number and you can check it on a slip - card number given to merchant is not the same as your physical card number. Tokens are generated by card companies (Visa, Mastercard) and keep the same format as physical cards. That’s just how it works, even in U. S. you will see “Visa” or “Mastercard” on a payment slip, not “Apple Pay”. Second, payments on websites are routed via payment gateways like eService, Polskie ePłatności etc. and most of them support Apple Pay when you choose payment via debit/credit card.
@@ethanmenzel Not with Apple Pay, only with apps in the app store. If Apple took a cut of it, you would not see so many UK retailers, big and small, accepting it.
@@ethanmenzel The reason Apple Pay is not accepted at Walmart is because Walmart wants to, or wanted, to use their own payment system,. Most importantly they wanted the important data that comes from a transaction. This does not have anything to do with fees.
Walmart has their own proprietary payment system (Walmart Pay) which they've invested heavily into, hence why they refuse to adopt Apple Pay in the States (their largest market). They started accepting Apple Pay in Canada in 2020, and ASDA Walmart here in the UK also accepts Apple Pay.
Another note to add to this video is that Apple Pay actually uses a device based card number that is a barrier between the merchant and your actual card details. So, even if it is compromised the thieves will only get a number for the devices “card” number and not your actual card number. Further minimizing this. You can see this when you see your receipt, the last 4 digits are different than on your card. Instead you have to go to the wallet settings whichever device you used to make the purchase to see the number used there. The one downside is when doing returns, to verify the card number requires a few more steps and remembering which device you used if at a POS. The Apple Watch and iPhone both have different numbers which I learned once after 30min at the LCBO.
Can you imagine how fast the lines at Walmart would be if they accept Apple Pay? I hope they decide to offer it sometime soon. God knows they could use it😆
@MostaTheGamer013 While I don't actually live in Canada or anywhere in North America, but US does likely have more crime rate compared to Canada. While no country is zero crime, but my country has very low crime rate.
From what I understand Walmart has its own pay system in place I forgot what it’s called but I know if they were to switch to apple then they would have to of course pay apple a percentage which is why there not changing any time soon.
Google pay and others do exactly the same. And if you have no phone don’t hand over your card and use contact free payment, so you can keep your card in you4 wallet
I use Apple Pay online whenever possible, however I tend to use the Apple titanium card as basically a debit card and then pay it back frequently. It’s great.
And many people in that group have mentioned using it like a debit card and paying charges as they clear, even when using Apple Pay. Personally, I prefer leaving my money in my credit union where it earns interest, then letting autopay cover the statement balance each month so I have no finance charges.
I use Apple Pay everywhere here in the UK. And I mean, from Costco, to local shops, to Ice Cream vans to online stores. Seems to just work everywhere, and it's also unlimited unlike the contactless limit on debit cards and Google Pay (of I think, £120). I have paid £800 once at a shop, so I know it works. Truly a great peace of mind.
I live in France and I have only been using Apple Pay for 2 years, and now I don't even take my card anymore because Apple Pay is really available everywhere and all the time, and no one has ever refused Apple Pay, but I think it's only in Europe because during my trip to the United States many stores did not accept Apple Country that upset my habits
I’m from Australia, and to me it is such a big surprise that some of the largest stores don’t accept Apple Pay. In Australia, I have never been to any store that allows tap to go/tap and pay debit cards without also allowing Apple Pay. Basically anywhere that accepts contactless physical cards also accept Apple Pay. I don’t even think I’ve ever been to a store that Has a payment terminal that doesn’t specifically Support contactless payment
I hate getting a new card when it’s compromised, but with credit cards, if someone steals your card, you are not responsible for anything they spend or used to purchase with. Credit cards in themselves are already quite secure, this is just a step beyond that.
I love using Apple Pay so much so that I don't use physical credit cards anymore unless I'm at a store that doesn't accept Apple Pay. It's so convenient and makes check out way faster, it's a shame that not all stores in the U.S accept it and an even bigger shame that a lot of people are against using it (in my experience at least)
I’ve been using Apple Pay for years but I still carry some cash with me because some small convenience stores have BS limits like “£3 minimum spend” on credit or debit cards
Some ppl will also prefer cash because it is easier to hide and so you.can avoid taxes and also you don't have to pay fees which can kill you if you're operating on small profit margins like a grocery store or a Chinese manufacturer
Having used both contactless and UPI, i feel contactless is better. UPI is helpful to send money to friends, but if contactless was adopted in more stores, payments could be even more streamlined.
I love Apple Pay not because of its security, but because of its shortcut where you double press the home button whilst you’re on the lock screen and it takes you there immediately.
In the UK, we can use Apple Pay on every contactless terminal. Contactless became a huge thing during the pandemic and as a result, so did Apple Pay. We can also use Apple Pay at the ticket barriers for the tube, we just tap our phone on the pad and go through the ticket barriers The only places that don’t accept Apple Pay are places that accept no contactless or indeed no cards, but that is extremely rare
Yeah, If you havent been to the US you have no idea how unsafe credit card scene has been. Going from magnetic readers with signature authentication, straight to Apple Pay, is exponentially more safe
Don't you guys have pay wave or tap? In my country, people rarely swipe, sign or pin to use their card. Even store and merchant now use qr code. Just scan to pay with your bank app
US is a defective country, everything get stolen regardless what you do. Fortunately, it seems that newer credit cards in my country have security number, valid date and name on the backside of the card rather than the front.
I can add virtually any card - payment or loyalty - onto Google Wallet. If they take Visa or Mastercard or debit it'll just work. Just as fast and safe as Apple Pay. But more versatile it seems because it doesn't require the merchant to accept it. The only requirement is the terminal has to have tap and it's very difficult to find a merchant in Canada who does not have tap.
I think, the biggest part is, that Apple Pay is not using the credit card number and is locked when not in use. Otherwise the card issuers would need different attempts on the design. Some time ago, the standard was to have name, expiration and card number on front and CVV on the back. So you needed to switch the card. American Express even had all information on the front. But since some years the cards are redesigned to a vertical design, having a blank front and all information on the back… So I guess, they don’t want to eliminate that risk (because I also know no bank, that really is providing one-use-cards) and Apple Pay is only providing security against those tapping thefts, using a card terminal to get card data via RFID/NFC, and the comfort of paying without PIN or signature. And the best is: in Germany I can ask, if I can pay with credit card (some don’t accept any cards, a really small number accepts only “Girocard” or “EC”, a German exclusive card linked to the bank account directly) and when I can pay with credit card, Apple Pay is working, even when some cashiers say, they don’t accept payment by smartphone or by Watch.
Literally the only places in the UK Apple Pay are places that don’t accept card payments at all which is really like some barbershops and some chicken shops. When I went to America, I realised that one swiping your card is a thing and people do that more than they use contactless and also it’s somewhat common for you to go to a restaurant and the waiter walks away with your card which would never happen here. The only times I need my physical card is if I need to get cash out.
Here in Mexico, most terminals I see have contactless payments enabled. I use it frequently and, If the merchant doesn't know about it, I teach them, surprisingly they do trust and they learn. But the same happens with Walmart, they don't accept it, instead they use their own app, called Cashi, and i use it only because they give you 2% cashback on all purchases, but I would rather prefer Apple Pay

Tap pay such as Apple Pay and Google Pay needs to be available everywhere in the States, including at the pumps. Because card skimming is becoming more and more of a problem now in this economy.
Idk how it is in North America. But in Europe, you can use apple pay anywhere physically where's a POS machine. And also, it's baffling to me that in the US people hand their cards to the merchant / employee to be scanned (drive-throughs for example). Here, worst case they hand you the POS machine which is usually wireless, or move it closer so you can reach it. I almost always pay with car or apple pay and I never had to hand them my card or phone.
Here in the USA we have adopted criminality as a right for many disgruntled of the citizenry. So, allowing systems to bypass theft is a violation of the thieves civil rights. Hope that explains life in modern Amerika for you.
One other thing not mentioned here is that ApplePay is also a validated payment method. Anyone can use your card if they know your pin. With biometric validation, you and only you can authorise the purchase. I love it. Used it everywhere in New York & Spain last year! 🙂
Here in Portugal we have something called MBWay which is supported by all banks and terminals so that besides being able to pay with our debit/credit card (either by inserting the card into the machine or by NFC) we can also use our phone's NFC or scan a QR code to make the payment. Another cool thing is that we can also create "virtual" cards with a specific amount and use the numbers of that card to make online payments, or, if the website supports it, we can enter our phone number and we receive a notification to authorize the payment. This means that we don't actually need to have a physical card which is kinda cool
Your video is wrong at 1:33. The chip built into cards cannot be skimmed because it does exactly what the apple pay does: It transmits a one time use code, so the real number is never revealed. It's done by powering up the credit card like a computer, using the contacts on the card, and then the card is able to generate information.
The problem is that some local shops, restaurants don't accept credit cards at all, I know it's more expensive for them but also more difficult for the people who go there, I really want everyone to accept NFC payments, even if it means more expensive service. Google pay is also safe btw.
"Google pay is also safe btw." Yea but annoying. you need t turn on and turn off NFC because if you have NFC still on the Google pay is on stand by and if you doing something on phone somebody can sweep in.
@@Imolos FTR: Apple is just "NFC pay" with extra hype and shiny colors. The protocol is exactly the same. The security is exactlty the same. Apple is just better at marketing it.
That’s where the US is straggling behind. Apple Pay in Canada works everywhere where Interact Contactless Payments work. Even in chip tech, the integration forever, Canada got chipped cards 2008, and the US 2015… when apple introduced Apple Pay, almost all terminals in Canada could already accept them since contactless was already mainstream it just needed to be implemented. And when it got released adoption was quick
As a blind person, I feel a lot safer using Apple pay as I don't have to carry my card or cash. Also, a lot of the chip and pin devices here in the UK are becoming touchscreen which means they are unusable by someone like myself.Apple Pay solves this problem.
In Brazil, some card readers companies offers a cheaper version to small shops in what you have to pay contactless. It's crazy to think that some places dont accept it in the US
Plus UPI, even when used with Credit Cards (only some banks are allowed right now in the primary phase) is real time.! Plus it’s more secure than card tokenisation as well..
Main advantage of UPI is that it doesn’t charge the vendor transaction charges like Visa and Mastercard does, while doing real-time transaction It doesn’t need systems like POS machine or NFC reader However, there is a push in most developed nations not to adopt UPI or similar technology inspite of being much safer than traditional credit card because of lobbying of big banking transaction players like Visa and Mastercard…
in France, Apple Pay is available as soon as the merchant offers contactless payment. and most merchants now offer contactless payment, so you can use Apple Pay absolutely anywhere. the only black spot in france is gas stations, where you have to use your physical bank card to authorize payment, which is less secure than Apple Pay. thanks for this great video!
In India you don’t have to carry debit card you can payment with any upi app on any QR code and it is so safe or one more thing it’s doesn’t charge anything
There’s an nfc (near field communication) at the top of your phone. Assuming you have Apple Pay set up, (if you don’t you can look it up, it’s simple) you can hover the top of your phone over the card reader while you’re in the Apple Pay screen. The easiest way to go to the pay screen is to either double click the home button or power button while you’re in your Lock Screen or Notification Center. I’m not entirely sure but if you go in your card app and click the card you want to pay with, I think that should work too but I’m not sure.
@@MichaelShrock sorry, what I meant was: explain how Apple does it… How do they protect your credit card, it is on their files somewhere… But how do they make the link? It’s the process… Thanks.
Well, I don‘t think Apple wants somebody to know how it works exactly, as this improves the risk of finding exploits. So this is a solution how I think it might work: As you heard in the video, the card information is stored encrypted on your phone. If you enable Apple Pay your phone sends your device-account-id and a security code to the payment terminal, which checks if the security-code is valid. If so, the terminal sends back a token which includes data like where the terminal is at and how much it costs. Your phone then processes the payment from your card to the retailer and sends back the status and the payment-id to the terminal. IMPORTANT: As I said before these are just my thoughts on how it works. The only information that Apple provides on how it works is, that your phone sends some codes to the reader, that identify your account and the processes the payment to the retailer on your phone.
This tech was NOT invented by Apple, and they were late to adopt it. But vendors were slow to accept NFC payments until Apple finally added it to iPhones.
Maybe in the US digital wallets are not that common (which is super weird) but in Europe is the norm! I have stopped taking anything except my phone when going out. I even pay in the metro with Google Pay 🤷♂️ Apple Pay has been accepted in the Netherlands for years now! And a bit later, Google Pay as well!
To be honest I wonder why USA is so behind ages when it comes to card payments and bakning systems. Many banks here either ship payment cards without magnetic strip or if present then that strip is blocked by default because it is considered rather as security threat. Since 2013 when I reached legal age to have own bank account and payment card I actually never paid using magnetic strip. Even places where you need to enter some areas like indoor ATMs rather have NFC reader instead of magnetic stirp reader. While contactless cards can be abused, there is logic, that PIN is required when 1.) Your payment exceeds 500 CZK (about 20 - 25 USD) 2.) After certain PINless payments or randomly you have to type PIN regardless of the paid ammount, even few CZK (few USD cents) Contactless payments are in Czech Republic well known and in 99 % of cases where card payments are accepted, you can pay also contactless. On some places only contactless payments are accepted like for instance in public transport ticket selling machines. So besides mobile payment solutions like Google Pay / Apple Pay / Garmin Pay, etc. you do not need any third party apps like PayPal to pay your bills. You need either card or banking account to carry direct bank to bank transfer (for instance when your mobile phone plan, energy bills, insurance fees, etc.)
I find it so odd how in other countries you're suppose to give your card to waitresses and clerks, while here in Brazil we just do the more sensible thing of having the clerk/cashier/waitress present us with the terminal and we just tap/insert/swipe it after double checking the value on screen.
I tried to only use apple pay, but one time, I forgot to bring cash and realized the merchant did not accept apple pay. So ever since, I bring cash or a card, as well as having apple pay on my phone. It’s time to move on and accept apple pay or at least credit cards in places that do not. (I understand why Walmart isn’t)

Most of the merchants and terminals accept Google and Apple Pay. Both are safer to use than standard debit card. Only if your battery dies or some magic happens to NFC refusing to work. Minor issue is, not all banks support paying using phones if they haven't enrolled into Google or Apple Pay.
In Israel Apple Pay and Google Pay are required by law for every store to accept, so there's no need to ever get your credit/debit card out of the house
In what backwards hellhole do you _hand your card over to a merchant to scan it?_ That’s pretty much asking for your info to be stolen. Usually (at least where i live) when we pay with a card at a restaurant the merchant walks over to our table with a portable card reader thing and we scan it ourselves
1:58 ugh, this frustrates me. If you look anywhere else in the world, digital payments are not just a thing but the norm. This is one of those areas where America looks so ancient compared to other parts of the world. Like, I can understand the concern for having everything be digital but the pros outweigh the cons in my opinion. If the majority of retailers had options like Apple pay and Google pay I guarantee most people would opt to use that instead of needing the physical card with them everywhere they go.
Here in India, We have UPI eliminates the whole card itself. You just scan the QR or type in the UPI ID (if you know one), enter your UPI pin and and the transactions is completed. The servers might store the UPI ID but you can also change your UPI ID whenever you want. And its accepted everywhere from a small roadside shop to Malls and big brands outlets and everything in between.
It’s crazy to think in the US not all stores accept Apple Pay, it’s even more shocking hearing that Walmart don’t accept it. In the U.K. any major retailer will accept Apple Pay and even some smaller family run shops also accept it too. Hopefully that changes soon for the US.
I think credit card companies need to finally ditch the mag-strip. At some point need to cut off the ease that goes with skimming that mag-strip. I think a full video explaining the difference between NFC physical cards (tap and go cards) and Apple Pay would be good too. As I guess the security of NFC physical cards is pretty weak and perhaps worse or just as bad as the mag-strip.
I think it’s still there for old payment terminals at mass transit kiosks (the metrocard machines here in NYC are so dated it’s ridiculous, they are very slowly rolling out a new tap and ride card, but it does not offer the monthly option that I use (and their excuse that OMNY has free rides after 12 rides per week (Monday through Sunday) does not work, since I rarely ride more than 10 times a week, and never go over 12 a week!)
@@joermnyc the card companies mandated that if the vendor chooses to use mag-strip cards that the vendor is liable for the loss during an data breach. I’m not sure if that is enforced enough. That was the reason why vendors switched to the chip card system. So the NY metro transit system should be held liable for any fraud if breaches occur. Eventually the big 3 (visa, mc, and amex) will say that the mag-strip isn’t allowed anymore. I hope that comes soon!
NFC tap to pay chips are encrypted and significantly harder to Copy compared to Magnetic Stripe. However, advantages of mobile payments is the fact that you add another quick layer of authentication before you tap and pay. Also, your real card info is never provided to consumers on Mobile Payment platforms.
I found this rather insightful but I reckon it does raise some questions: why did Apple make their own credit card? Does that go against the safety and privacy they are trying to grant users from thieves or hackers? Does this mean their credit card is more of a gift card, loyalty card or top-up card?
A little correction: A company does not store any payment data like credit card numbers, etc., as it is illegal to store that information. Only the payment provider can store such data. The company from which you are making a purchase only stores the last 4 digits of the credit card number and the expiration date.
We have "prepaid" cards here, that only have a number/CV/expiration date. No name or info on you, but they are connected to your bank account. You can also customize it a bit from the app
Cool. Our country also have a system named UPI. You link your bank account with UPI id. And there are various apps with which you can make transaction just by scanning the QR code.
A slight incorectness, the reasons skimmers dont work with apple or google pay isn't that they use nfc, rather that they send a unique token for every transaction rather than giving the card details. Also, that's the reason Apple pay isn't accepted anywhere, as processing payments is harder.
being in the US, where Apple Pay isn’t widely accepted, and where we still hand our cards to waiters at restaurants, I set up my Visa card to notify me every time a payment is made, regardless of the amount. And I also review my monthly statement. It requires vigilance on my part, but that just the way it is in the US.
I still can’t believe that in the US, you literally hand over and give away your credit card. This is naturally unthinkable in Europe for obvious reasons.
It’s rare that this happens. The vast majority of places you don’t hand over your credit card, except for some restaurants. And even if something happens, the credit system is very very robust and it takes literally 1 min to refute a bad charge if that ever happens and you get your money back very quickly. Also, I’ve lived in 4 different states and out of my entire life of handing credit cards at restaurants to people or over the phone (which is also very rare), I have never once been charged incorrectly lol. The level of trust is high and if something goes wrong, there are many systems in place to help you. But in the vast majority of places, there are just regular payment terminals that people use
In Switzerland we use TWINT, a contactless payment system, available on all types of smartphones, that allows to pay similarly at shops, online, for parkings, etc. Very secure, extremely efficient, and without even having to give your credit card details to Apple. The whole value chain is managed and secured by the banks and not by a third party company like Apple. A great system.

Apple Pay works anywhere where Visa PayWave and MasterCard PayPass doo. Meaning it does work on every modern terminal and do not have to be specifically enabled. Any merchant not supporting Apple Pay either does so deliberately or has very outdated terminals of pre-2G nerwork times
I'm glad I live in a country where apple pay is supported everywhere contactless payments are, which is pretty much everywhere. Haven't even used my renewed physical card issued months ago.
In the UK I have not gone out with a wallet since I got the iPhone 6s on release date, Apple Pay adoption was extremely fast and the only place I've ever not been able to use it is small family run stores that don't accept anything but cash.
In India govt came up with UPI system.... Install any UPI app (there are dozens) and link it with your bank account... Scan QR code and pay... Good thing is you are not dependent on third party app or company like apple so you never have to pay a cut. Data is handled by the bank so no security risk

In New Zealand and Australia Apple Pay is just your normal Tap to Pay payment system. Why is it different in the U.S? Not sure if that makes sense. But wherever there is a wireless payment method available, you can just tap with your phone. Been using this since 2014 in New Zealand and Australia. Weird...
*Home Depot* also doesn't accept Apple Pay. The big retailers that do not accept Apple Pay could do so with a flip of a switch, but they deliberately do not because *they want to track you.* The big retailers want your data for tracking, but Apple Pay prevents harvesting your data.

Everyone NEEDS to accept contactless payments. I am severely low vision (though not blind), I also have cerebral palsy which makes my right side in my case a lot weaker than my left with bad control. Apple Pay is very easy with my iPhone, FaceID and go. Apple Pay is an ACCESSIBILITY feature.
This is overly simplistic and wrong at times. You just described generic NFC payments. On the POS side, nothing is different, they just see the details and validate the identity via chip, that's why you can use it worldwide even if they don't know what Apple Pay is. The strength of Apple Pay is that generates a virtual card number on the fly on top of that. Next time you pay, check the receipt. This safety feature guarantees the payment for your bank, so they usually remove the low limit NFC payments are subjected to (50€ in my country)
Well, not surprising as there are still US merchants, especially restaurants, only accepting magstripe transactions. Compare that to Nordic countries like Denmark and Norway where more than 90% of all transactions are contactless.
You can also put black tape over your CVV / Account Number / Card Number to block it from the scanners, just hope they can't read the card Number using RFID. At least you won't be giving Google/Apple a list of every transaction you make, and part of the card fee.
Something that's been left out of this video is that in general, Apple Pay is also more secure than contactless. Literally the first thing you see when you go to use it is a Face ID prompt.

Just want to point out that Walmart, at least in Canada, has accepted Tap (including Apple Pay) for quite a few years now.
Walmart here in states does not accept Apple Pay.
The reason why some places like Walmart don’t use it is because of the percentage that goes to apple, I believe. Same for the app store too.

Truly a great peace of mind.
In Europe, where you can pay with debit cards you can pay with apple pay too. I've never had any issue or failed transaction.

In the UK, we can use Apple Pay on every contactless terminal. Contactless became a huge thing during the pandemic and as a result, so did Apple Pay.
We can also use Apple Pay at the ticket barriers for the tube, we just tap our phone on the pad and go through the ticket barriers

@@RandomPerson-tz7wk US are too late for everything as always.

But since some years the cards are redesigned to a vertical design, having a blank front and all information on the back…
So I guess, they don’t want to eliminate that risk (because I also know no bank, that really is providing one-use-cards) and Apple Pay is only providing security against those tapping thefts, using a card terminal to get card data via RFID/NFC, and the comfort of paying without PIN or signature.

Main advantage of UPI is that it doesn’t charge the vendor transaction charges like Visa and Mastercard does, while doing real-time transaction
It doesn’t need systems like POS machine or NFC reader
However, there is a push in most developed nations not to adopt UPI or similar technology inspite of being much safer than traditional credit card because of lobbying of big banking transaction players like Visa and Mastercard…

Hi Greg, you have such good animations and videos. If you post even 5 videos a day I’ll watch them all.❤😊
Could we do a step-by-step walk-through on how it actually works? Thanks very much. Enjoy the videos…

Well, I don‘t think Apple wants somebody to know how it works exactly, as this improves the risk of finding exploits.
So this is a solution how I think it might work:
As you heard in the video, the card information is stored encrypted on your phone.
I even pay in the metro with Google Pay 🤷♂️
Apple Pay has been accepted in the Netherlands for years now! And a bit later, Google Pay as well!
I‘m realy happy that here in Switzerland where I live, you can pay anywhere with Apple Pay. I use it all the time.
While contactless cards can be abused, there is logic, that PIN is required when 1.) Your payment exceeds 500 CZK (about 20 - 25 USD) 2.) After certain PINless payments or randomly you have to type PIN regardless of the paid ammount, even few CZK (few USD cents)
Contactless payments are in Czech Republic well known and in 99 % of cases where card payments are accepted, you can pay also contactless. On some places only contactless payments are accepted like for instance in public transport ticket selling machines. So besides mobile payment solutions like Google Pay / Apple Pay / Garmin Pay, etc. you do not need any third party apps like PayPal to pay your bills. You need either card or banking account to carry direct bank to bank transfer (for instance when your mobile phone plan, energy bills, insurance fees, etc.)
why did you write all this
I find it so odd how in other countries you're suppose to give your card to waitresses and clerks, while here in Brazil we just do the more sensible thing of having the clerk/cashier/waitress present us with the terminal and we just tap/insert/swipe it after double checking the value on screen.
I tried to only use apple pay, but one time, I forgot to bring cash and realized the merchant did not accept apple pay. So ever since, I bring cash or a card, as well as having apple pay on my phone.

1:58 ugh, this frustrates me. If you look anywhere else in the world, digital payments are not just a thing but the norm.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a payment terminal that hasn’t got Apple Pay, at least, not in my country.

The Apple Card is very secure. The card doesn’t have your number on it and uses the same tech. The security code can even change every so often

It’s rare that this happens. The vast majority of places you don’t hand over your credit card, except for some restaurants. how do you know that apple doesnt see your bank credentials though? its probably the most evident security concern that I have.
Thanks for making this, now when I talk to my dumb friend, family, coworkers who think it’s not safe I can explain it to them
Kroger and Walmart need to get their shit together. That's why sometimes I just rather go to Target
Quite a few self owned food shops don’t sadly
In India govt came up with UPI system.... Install any UPI app (there are dozens) and link it with your bank account... Scan QR code and pay... Good thing is you are not dependent on third party app or company like apple so you never have to pay a cut. Data is handled by the bank so no security risk
Have you/COULD YOU PLEASE do a video on the “EXPERIMENTAL FEATURES” in the iphone safari advanced setting section? If you haven’t already, which I haven’t been able to find (could you list a link to it) there are so many!!? Some people say to shut them all off unless your a developer, is that true? Do these invade any privacy we should be aware of and who gets the data from these, Apple or Any 3rd party developers?
Credit/debit card details are not stored in the merchants database, it is handled by the payment processor.
The big retailers that do not accept Apple Pay could do so with a flip of a switch, but they deliberately do not because *they want to track you.* The big retailers want your data for tracking, but Apple Pay prevents harvesting your data.
here in Brazil - São Paulo,, pretty much any stores you walk into accept it, even random street vendors.
It’s crazy big stores & many merchants in USA doesn’t accept Apple Pay, in Malaysia almost everywhere that have card terminal accept it even in small shops.
In Australia, almost every shops and businesses accept Apple Pay. You could go to MacDonalds in the city to being in the middle of no where at a fuel station.
I can't remember the last time I paid with a card or cash.
Thank you for the information!
UPI.....
no you cant use card if you have card no. expiry and cvv....you also need otp to complete the purchase
You can also put black tape over your CVV / Account Number / Card Number to block it from the scanners, just hope they can't read the card Number using RFID. At least you won't be giving Google/Apple a list of every transaction you make, and part of the card fee.
I wish you'd compare google pay, or samsung pay, or any other wireless paying method
