    Hello from Montreal Canada 👋🇨🇦. I'm 50 and remember watching this version as an 8 year old. I just re-watched last night. It's a brilliant movie. I've seen many versions throughout the decades ( god I'm old 😭😂), but I've fallen in love with classic black and white movie's over the past few years, and when this one popped up, I had to watch. I don't know if you have read the book, but it's a VERY intense story. There's Alot to unpack. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. 🖖😎🤘🇨🇦🍻🕊️

    Thanks for reviewing my favorite Christmas movie. I always look forward every Christmas to watching this one. And I agree with you about Marley's Ghost, I think this portrayal isn't over the top at all. It's spot on. Marley has to be wailing in agony or the scene just doesn't hit for me.

    This is the best version. A great performance by Alastair Sim.
    For me the saddest part was when Scrooge found out what Fann wanted him to do & he asks for her forgiveness.

    I love when he gives his maid money and asked if she knows what it is for. "To keep me mouth shut?" I have 2 or 3 Ebineezers in my ancestry. They lived before A Christmas Carol was published.

    Great video. When Marley says to Scrooge, “A chance and hope of my procuring, Ebeneezer.”, I think that means Marley could be redeemed as well as Scrooge IF, in the end, Scrooge does indeed completely change, especially since Marley is the messenger. Do you have any thoughts on this? Thank you.

    • @ClassicswithCourtney
      @ClassicswithCourtney  3 дня назад +1

      @georgepolasky9809 Thank you so much! While that is a very interesting thought, I don't believe that would be the case. Marley is trying to persuade Scrooge to change his ways and show that he will be in a better place. Marley has unfortunately lost his chance. Would it be great if Marley could have also been redeemed? YES! But it's the same meaning as whether or not a person will accept Jesus as Savior. Jesus is the only way to heaven. Once someone rejects him until death, they will never get a second chance. That is basically what Marley is. Someone who chose wealth and business over Jesus and helping others. Whereas Scrooge chooses life again (basically becoming born-again through Jesus) and therefore he is redeemed.
      I also believe the line "of my procuring" means that Marley is hoping Scrooge will listen to him bc they were friends, rather than being warned by a stranger.
      Boy, I went on a tangent there, but I hope this helps your question. 😊

    There are other versions that are good but this one is the only one I'll watch. Being filmed in black and white just adds to the atmosphere and tone of the movie and who better to capture the essence of the Dickens story than the British? Plus Alistair Sim knocked it out of the park with his performance.

      @michaelcunningham2808 I wholeheartedly agree! We have a few dvd versions of this film, and one of them is the colored version. My dad likes to watch that for Christmas Eve but I prefer the black & white version.

      @ClassicswithCourtney I agree 👍. I'm a regular watcher of Creature Features, I don't know if you're familiar with the channel or not. If not, I HIGHLY recommend. It has a wonderful cast of characters, Vincent the Rock star, Mr.Livingston, the " butler" , and Tangella, she's... well I don't know what she is, frankly, I'm still not sure if she's human...😂😂😂. If you haven't checked it out, you will LOVE it. If you have, then you already know what I'm talking about! 😂👍. 🖖😎🤘🍻🕊️🇨🇦

    Hollywood (or where ever this film was made London I think) they all take liberties on this story and don't ever look at the 2019 version it is the most vulgar and twisted story you seem like a decent lady that movie is not for you stick to the other classic you'll enjoy them much better

      @TimRobinson-hc7mt Thank you! My sister did mention a terrible version that was made a few years ago involving an assault scene?!?! Is that the version you're referring to? Why do studios need to put crude, awful things in films that didn't need it, I'll never know!

      @@ClassicswithCourtney Yes from start to finish its pretty bad from F bombs to a guy showing disrespect to both Marley and Scrooge's graves and yes Scrooge does something with Mrs. Cratchit that is degrading. If Dickens were to see this he would be like what have you done to my story? and why? All to put a twisted twist on a classic story so it makes money my dear.
