It is imperative that you clean, vacuum, shampoo carpet, in short everything stated. But another thing you need to do is take each animal individually alone in a bathroom and shut the door. Use a fine flea comb and go over the entire animal and make sure you are combing down low, close to the skin! Drown the fleas as you pull them out of the comb and do this with every pass of the comb. Do it every day.

I put warm water in a jar with some Dawn dish soap and then dip the comb in that, then straight to the fur. The fleas stick to the dish soap on the comb. As soon as you run the comb through their fur, dip it in a bowl of VERY hot water, this will instantly kill the fleas. Then start over again with the Dawn soap, then the hot water again.
Keep the bowl of hot water close by so you can quickly dip the comb in after running it through their fur.
I do this all the time and it works great!
      Hope this helps.

I’m 35 weeks pregnant. My husband and I just adopted two kittens. I figured “let me give them a bath since they haven’t had one yet”. Got done bathing the first kitten, sees fleas on him. *sigh*. I just did laundry, I just washed my bedding. I just vacuumed. Just washed babies new clothes. They’ve been inside the whole time how did they get fleas ? And a few days ago remembering my husband had what we thought were mosquito bites are most likely flea bites. This is gonna be fun to handle now. I’m always keeping my home clean 🥲 I pray they go away easy

Fleas are small insects that survive by feeding on animal or human blood. Their bites can cause discomfort, itchiness, and irritation. Fleas can infest various animals through different mechanisms:
Animal to Animal Transmission: Fleas can easily jump from one animal to another while they are in close proximity. This can happen during interactions between infested and non-infested animals.
Contact with Infested Environments: Flea larvae and eggs can be present in the environment, such as in grass, carpets, bedding, and outdoor areas. When animals come into contact with these infested environments, fleas can jump onto them and begin feeding.
Wild Animals: Domestic animals can get fleas from encounters with wild animals that carry fleas, such as rodents, rabbits, or other wildlife.
Stray Animals: Stray cats and dogs can be carriers of fleas. If they come into contact with your pets or roam in the same areas, they can transfer fleas to your animals.
Human Interaction: Though less common, fleas can bite and feed on humans. If you have fleas in your home, they may bite you as well.
Flea Infested Items: Fleas can hitchhike on items such as clothing, blankets, or pet bedding, and get introduced to new environments when these items are moved from one place to another.
It's essential to take preventive measures like using flea control products, regularly grooming and inspecting pets for fleas, and maintaining a clean living environment to reduce the risk of infestations. If a flea infestation is suspected, it's crucial to treat both the affected animals and their environment promptly to prevent further spread.

Yes, unfortunately, your furbabies came home with fleas when you adopted them. They usually get treated with flea treatment 'the day you adopt them'! 😢😣 Then the adopting family has to deal with it once they're in their home__makes me angry! 😒
FYI, in case you're not aware, one female flea can lay 100's of eggs in a week's time__and you can be sure at least half of those will be females sooo, it takes diligence to get rid of them and keep your kitties and home free from them!
Being that you are expecting it is obvious you don't want to use toxic treatments in your home or on the kitties, either. You can always give your kitties a bath but it's imperative to treat your home environment for the reason I mentioned above.
"Food grade" DE works well for your home as long as you take precautions to avoid creating 'dust clouds' when using it__it would be very bad for your little kitties, or you, to breath that into your lungs!
Good luck__and congrats on the kitties and baby, take good care of them and shower them with love every day! 💖🙌😺

I’d also be wary of purchasing used cat furniture. I believe these caused a major part of my recent infestation. If you do buy some, I’d recommend you put it in isolation & treat before introduction to your home. I didn’t do this & ended up throwing a lot of stuff away.
So far, this has been the worst thing I’ve been through w/my fur babies😿

I wish I had found this video sooner. Your advice is spot on. I have done everything you suggested except steaming and bathing my cats. My Vet said DO NOT Bathe the cats. Anyway, the fleas are dead. But I am still vacuuming daily and still getting flea debris, flea dirt, flea eggs, and flea larvae, all dead. Mostly in carpet. Plus, it is less debris every day. I will continue vacuuming daily until I no longer see flea stuff.

DE really works good but just be ready for it to irritate them suddenly. You will notice them come out from wherever they're hiding in an attempt to get away from it. Not only fleas but any other bugs you may have living in your house. It really kills them well though, larvae and eggs included. Leave it in your carpets for a couple of days, then vacuum and repeat for a couple of weeks. This alone won't get rid of them completely but it will reduce their numbers drastically.

Even if you don't have carpet or a couch, fleas can still find other hiding spots in your home. Here are some potential areas where fleas might hide:
Pet Bedding: Fleas often infest pet bedding, so check your pet's sleeping area regularly.
Pet Fur: Fleas can hide in your pet's fur. Regular grooming and use of flea prevention products can help control this.
Cracks and Crevices: Fleas can hide in cracks and crevices in floors, walls, and furniture. Pay attention to baseboards, molding, and other hidden spaces.
Upholstered Furniture: While you may not have a couch, upholstered furniture like chairs or cushions can still harbor fleas.
Bedding and Linens: Fleas can hide in bedding, blankets, and linens. Wash these items regularly in hot water to help eliminate them.
Curtains and Drapes: Fleas may hide in curtains and drapes, especially if they are close to the floor.
Rugs and Mats: If you have any rugs or mats, even if they're not wall-to-wall carpeting, fleas can hide in the fibers.
Laundry Areas: Fleas may hide in the laundry area, especially if there are piles of dirty clothes or towels.
Cracks in Flooring: If you have hardwood or tile floors, fleas can hide in the gaps between floorboards or tiles.
Outdoor Areas: Fleas can also be brought in from outdoors. Keep an eye on your pet if they spend time outside, and consider treating outdoor areas as well.

I don’t have a pet ….Im in an apartment and I’m very sure these fleas have come in through the central heating vent in my bedroom. Now I can’t get rid of them. I’m right at the end on the top floor and everything is coming my way. I’d say it was a nightmare except I can rarely sleep for them falling on me and biting. I’ve tried Raid Home insect spray, diatomaceous earth, clove oil….and I’m continuously vacuuming or sweeping…..nothing seems to work. Any more suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much! 🙂💗

My two cats get fleas, but my French bulldog does not and I thought it was the garlic that I was putting in my dogs food but she is also on raw food and I think the quality of the food is important is the more healthy the animal is the less likely they are to have parasites. Now I feed my pets raw food with garlic and I give them organic KEFIR with a quarter of a tea spoon of diatomaceous earth, foodgrade, first thing in the morning. But I think the real difference is, I soak my dog with my urine, mixed with apple cider vinegar and lavender followed by coconut oil with lavender rubbed into her skin, and I think that is the deterrent. I do this because of her allergies. Namaste 🙏

That's when you either get a profession to take care of it or, you get "food grade" DE and use it on the cat as well as all around the floor, in particularly, anywhere they can hide! If you keep clothes or other items in 'boxes' that's where the big headache is because those SOB's jump everywhere!
If you do have a serious infestation it is well worth the money to call the pros! 💖🙌😺

Why do the fleas keep biting my ankles instead of my mom’s ankles? It feels like a pinch😢

    • @theguardianschoice
      @theguardianschoice  5 месяцев назад

Fleas tend to bite some people more than others due to several factors, which might explain why they prefer biting your ankles instead of your mom's. Here are the key reasons:
Body Chemistry: Fleas are attracted to certain chemicals emitted by our skin. Each person's body chemistry is unique, and your skin might produce more of the chemicals that attract fleas compared to your mom's skin.
Blood Type: Some studies suggest that fleas might prefer certain blood types. If you and your mom have different blood types, this could be a factor in why fleas are biting you more.
Carbon Dioxide: Fleas are attracted to the carbon dioxide we exhale. If you are more active or breathe more heavily, fleas might be more drawn to you.
Heat and Movement: Fleas are attracted to heat and movement. If you tend to move around more or if your body temperature is slightly higher, fleas might target you over your mom.
Proximity to Flea Habitats: Fleas often reside in carpets, pet bedding, and furniture. If you spend more time near these areas or if your ankles are closer to these habitats (like sitting on the floor or near pets), you're more likely to get bitten.
Clothing and Footwear: The type of clothing and footwear you wear might also play a role. Fleas can easily jump onto exposed skin, so if you wear shorter socks or no socks at all, your ankles are more exposed compared to your mom's if she wears more protective clothing.
