I definitely recommend cleaning any book you buy. With a wipe or a little bit of sanitizer.

cheers, these are proper stains tho, so i'm pretty sure any amount of careful rubbing (and these are paperbacks) on my part won't restore them to their former glory, sadly ~

Weirdly, I saw that Weasel book yesterday in a book shop (I had never heard of it before). It feels very meta that the Weasel books are invading your home. It's quite the saga, please keep us updated! The dirty marks on the back would annoy me too, and I think the copy with the paws is the best.

I won’t weigh in on your relative pickiness. I generally let it all go, yet I have known such instances in me not less in their tenacity.
I feel a little obsession with that cover beginning, but having seen what you showed, I will settle for nothing less than a paperback with the hardback’s cover.
That’s easy, it’s an impossibility, so I can let the obsession go now.

never say never: at least twice in my life i've made my own dust jacket to cover up the ugly cover of an otherwise good book =P

A new book should be in prestine condition. Period.
Friends of mine once had a weasel infatuation. I can tell you, it was no joke. They didn't sleep a single night.

      Glad you think so too!
I'm pretty sure that "infatuation" is a typo, and I feel bad for your friends coz that sounds like a nightmare, but I'm also very happy imagining that it's not a typo and your friends couldn't sleep because they were lovingly obsessed with a weasel. 🌙🛏💕🦦

@@apocalypsereading7117 Yes, it was a typo! Not sure what was going on in my mind...🤣 Of course I meant infestation.

Yes, you are being picky and there’s nothing wrong with that. I like the UK hardcover best. It’s easy to see why you were initially struck by the image. Who designed the cover?
I had a memorable audio experience with John Lee’s performance of The City and The City. It was back before digital audiobooks were a thing. I used my computer to transfer audiobooks on CD into a format that I could listen on my iPod and, in this case, I accidentally mixed up the individual tracks so they were in random order. So the story was switching back and forth between story threads even more than Mieville had intended. Yet I was still able to follow and to love this book.
There’s a bookstore in Hamilton Ontario named for the book btw.
I read Territory of Light on your recommendation and loved it. Woman Running in the Mountains is also a delight.

the cover was designed by someone called Luke Bird; on his site you can see some other arresting designs for popular and less popular books, but i like the weasel ones best.
that sounds like quite the reading experience - for me only space is being messed about in the story, for you it was time as well! glad it was a positive experience =)
i saw your video where you reviewed Territory of Light, and i'm glad you liked it! i just finished it myself

@@apocalypsereading7117 Oh! I went to Luke Bird’s website and I recognized so many of his cover designs. I bought a copy of Weasels in the Attic when I was in a bookshop yesterday. It’s the one with the goldfish cover designed by Janet Hansen. It gives me a sense of serenity amid absurdity; I’m curious to see how that matches the tone of the novel.

i don't think you're being extra picky at all...and given the circumstances i can't believe they didn't make sure the second book was in perfect condition..it does seem as though the books must have met with a damp situation and they may all look that way and so blackwell should get new copies for their customers..i'd email them again and express my annoyance and surprise that they hadn't gotten back to you and tell them it's now an ongoing saga on your booktube channel and your subscribers, at least one of them, is anxiously waiting to see if blackwell does the right thing.

i know right! i sent an email expressing annoyance and surprise, tho i have to admit the silliness and unusualness of the situation is kind of funny and fun - i really hope i like the book when i read it, since i feel bound to it by fate now. will keep you updated on the saga! =)

The weasel infestation 😂 I get you 100% I get really obsessive over covers and just little details about books sometimes. I recently purchased the His Dark Materials trilogy with the covers illustrated by Melissa Castrillon (one of my fave illustrators) and I purchased northern lights THREE times because the first two times they sent me battered copies 🫠

haha, i nearly matched your dedication! but in the end they offered a full refund, and i don't even know if i'll like this book or not, so i took the cash and the dirty weasels... in your case it makes more sense, tho, since you've got more invested than i did. just checked those covers and they look lovely 🔭
