Went to Hobby Lobby today and bought all the supplies I would need to try my hand at watercolors. I've done acrylic painting for years and I was ready to branch out. I came home and excitedly set everything up and sat down to paint. Boy was I discouraged! Watercolor is an ENTIRELY different animal! I ended up crumpling up my first attempt and walking away completely defeated. Not wanting to give up so easily, (or waste the money I'd just spent) I sat down and decided to watch some RUclips tutorials to help me along. I skimmed through about a dozen before I found yours. You make this look approachable and fun. I think I'll try again. Thanks!
Go for it, I was an acrylic painter too and found the w/c difficult, I persevered and love it so much. Ellen is an awesome person to learn from, she is down to earth, very funny and very talented, as well she is a gifted teacher. I wish you all the luck.
Having same problem! Been doing acrylics & branching out to water colors but harder than ever thought but not giving up as w any new thing (don’t start out playing Mozart on piano) as a beginner!
I have been a crafter most of my life but always wanted to paint. I tried acrylics but the medium did not appeal to me. Then I realized all the framed prints on my walls were mostly watercolors. The rest is history. I am 83, a recent widow, and have been painting for about 8 months. I hand painted my Christmas cards last year and have given hand painted notecards as gifts. I paint everyday and I learn something new every time. My days are filled with RUclips tutorials and painting and I could not be more content. Many, many thanks.
After watching one of your videos yesterday, I was motivated to give it a try. I used Arches paper, divided them into 12 3x3 squares, folded the paper, and wet it to help tear them to get the natural torn look. I didn’t realize how sturdy this paper is. Anyway, I had a blast painting a dozen mini pictures to add on card stock for Christmas cards. Thanks for inspiring me to have fun painting.
I am so happy that i “found” you yesterday…i love your style of teaching…..so easy…and makes we wish here were more hours in the day to paint1!…thank you
Hi Ellen, there is a saying that goes “The quickness of the hand deceives the eye”, I don’t know the author, but just watching you paint it seems very apt description of you! My goodness, how fast you paint, and yet like magic beautiful little pictures appear before our eyes… I love how you build the little fit trees up, and the different greens you quickly add in to give deeper, realistic colour. I just sat mesmerised as your brushes flew across the paper, creating “Mini Monday masterpieces!”….I’m “trying” to build up my confidence to try for myself, after all, how hard can it be! And then I watch your work again, and go WOW!! …. Time for just one more coffee, then time for the challenge ! Lol. In all seriousness Thankyou so much Ellen, for racking your brains each weekend to think of a subject to paint for us on the Monday….they have all been really lovely, and would inspire anyone who has never painted before to pick up a brush, and have a go! It’s fun, it doesn’t matter if it isn’t exactly like the ones you have painted, but just have a go people! You don’t know what your missing. Sending love and light Ellen, and grateful thanks again. Helen in Norfolk U.K. 🙋♀️😘💐👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😻
This is so beautiful! I'm just getting back into watercolor painting again. I did it many years ago when my children were little. You're a wonderful teacher and you make it look effortless. Thank you. ♡

Thank you for keeping up on these its keeping me motivated to learn new things all the time. I really missed your voice in this one.. I just love when you go off and tell stories
Thanks! These will make cute Christmas cards! I think I will use a toothbrush with the white paint to make the snowflakes look finer on such a small painting. Love the dark sky.
Ellen Crimi-Trent- Artist - I was stressing for you, but you got there in the end. Good to know you can drench your work in water and still come out the end other with a nice piece.
@@AbiNomac You were stressing for her? Many artists use very much water. That`s the beauty of watercolor, the more water you add the less control you have. That`s what watercolor is all about. Every watercolorist has his/her own relationship with the medium "watercolor".
Very nice! I think I will use a toothbrush with the gouache so the snow in the sky will be a bit finer than on the trees. I love what you did with the sky on both of these! Thanks!
I find it a good way to add splashes by using two artists brushes one for the splashing and the other to tap that brush on the handle. It gives me smaller splash effects. Love your work. 🎨 ✨ 🌟 🦋 🌷 💖
Thank you so much for this great tutorial. They came out beautifully for me the first time! I am going to make these for my Christmas cards this year. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you, Ellen, for your video’s and for being so very generous with your talent. As a beginner I really appreciate these kinds of vids. 👍🏻 Your art is lovely and I can only hope that someday I’ll be able to paint like this too. 👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻
Pretty. Try covering trees whilst doing the snow ❄️ and apply snow to trees after they’re dry, with the brush. Also toothbrush & thumb works great for small snow effect. 👍🏻😁
Ellen, this was so relaxing to watch with the music in the background. I'm going to try these next painting session. Thank you for doing this. Happy 'soon to be' Thanksgiving time!
New to your channel but so love you! Your easy going style gives me such confidence that I can somehow pull off a decent painting! Are you from New England? I hear an accent that being from Rhode Island- I am familiar with and love!
Excellent demo Ellen. There are many comments so they may have already been asked, what kind of tape are you using? Is it a "removable" scotch tape or something different?
Thanks

You make it so easy and beautiful and the lovely music make it perfect, what kind of tape are you using please.🙋🏻♀️
magic tape but I put it on my clothes first and then put on paper so its not super sticky.
