DJI FPV Manual Mode Tutorial No.3 | Sim Hours OR CRASH

- DO NOT TRY on the first go, unless you are already familiar with FPV Acro flying. Many pilots who frequently fly in 'N' and 'S' modes would have created bad control habits, and would assume that M Mode is not too different. THIS IS WRONG. And would likely cause your drone to crash. Take the time, spend the hours in a fpv simulator. ANY simulator. Definitely better to get that muscle memory in on the sim, than spending school fees on the field. FPV Freerider is the recommended Android app if u don't have an Apple platform.

Among hundreds of videos about fpv you’re the only one who made a real useful. Thanks!!!
Thanks. I just hope to help more get a hang of flying fpv in full manual. This will really open up dynamic cinematic flying
Right, everybody shows u how to fly in manual mode but none of them shows u the stick movement and the efect of that novment, realy useful video....keep it up.
Thanks and glad it helped! See u in the next ep!
That's so true. So many videos out there and very few that actually teaches you stick movements like this one here. Thanks for the video!
Love that back wall man! Slick!
Thanks! Trying it out. Thought that its a bit too busy, but the lighting gives a different feel to the episodes. Hope to keep it going till I get bored and change it again!
So far the best tutorial for manual. Thanks 🙏
Glad it was helpful! Gonna have more content in the future as I roundup more ideas. See you in the next one!
Great training video! I will definitely put more hours of training on the sim before I go full manual on my dji fpv drone.
If u have got an iPhone/ipad would be great, but totally fine with other 3rd party apps. Just practice in Acro/Manual and u will be much better on the field.
Fantastic. Flying any sim requires synapses to be built in your brain! Gotta put in the hours. I'm gonna go sim next, thank you sir.
Takes awhile, but its kinda driving a car/ riding a bicycle etc. At first it seems that there are so many inputs that you need to control just to get the vehicle to do simple movements. But eventually there will be a time that you no longer need to think of which input to give, and instead it all feels automated. Thats where you know the muscle memory has been building well. And the only time to really test it is when adverse things happen and you are able to react and bring the drone back to safety while still in M Mode. Hope the journey will be smooth for you. practice in the sim and enjoy M Mode AS HIGH UP in the skies as you can. Be ready with that Pause Button. Stay safe and see you in the skies mate!
I flew in the simulators, can't stay up in air for more than 10-seconds without crashing! I was able to fly Realtime manual mode but 100 foot in the air........that break button is a savior!
Thanks for sharing! Yup its not easy to get the head around the controls. Coz like in Normal and Sport modes, alot of the flying controls have been done by the drone, like hovering and self-leveling. In manual, suddenly there is so much to deal with individually. Centering of the drone, throttle control, and even simple turns become complex mix of actions. Since you are already in the air, keep practicing in both forms. Its the muscle memory that we wanna build here. Not noticeable now, but u wanna reach a state of automation where you no longer need to think of what is pitch, roll, yaw and throttle. When shit happens, you take control and react accordingly instead of relying on the pause button. Thats when you know you are sharper as a pilot. This transition takes time, and ITS OK to rely on the pause button now. i use it once awhile too. But im mainly doing freestyle, so to keep Pausing at every risky flip or roll is undesirable. So I lean more to relying on muscle memory. For yourself, just keep the pace of practicing and enjoy the skies more. You have already been in the air in M mode, so thats a big step ahead. Keep the "Attitude Lock" on if it makes for safer flights. See you in the skies!
I'm trying to figure out the DJI FPV manual mode. This is a great series. Thanks for posting all of the video. They're very helpful!
Glad they have helped. Feel free to drop by again and ask any questions through your journey. See you in the skies!
Thanks Rahim! I stumbled upon your excellent videos only a few days ago. I'm watching everyone of them and learning more and more each time. Your tutorials are fantastic and spot on with the content. I'm very new at FPV. I wish I would have known of your high quality tutorials long ago. I'd be flying like an ace by now. Be well!
Thanks alot brother, means alot to me as a creator. Right now its not about the subs/views, but knowing that im helping others move easier into the hobby. FPV was e damndest hardest hobby iv had, but once u get the muscle memory in, the skies are yours. Kinda like a childhood dream of being Superman, and i hope i could share the love with others too 🙏🏼
Best tutorial. 👍🏻
Thanks! See u in the next one!
Excellent as always
U have really been going through my tutorials right?😉 Glad to hear form you again, and hope they have been helping you out in the skies. Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions and I'll try to help as soon as I can. Fly safe bro.
Thank you for all of the great content. I have watched four or five videos of your videos, and I'm feeling more confident trying in manual mode. Still need some time in the simulator. One thing I'm still not sure on, is the position of the sticks. I know how to adjust them, but not sure what the best adjustment is for both sticks. Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks for watching the episodes! ITS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA to spend more time on the sim! Anyways, I fully loosen the spring tension and add Abit of friction. hope this helps:

Great content. Can't wait to get up and flying. My DJI FPV comes on Tuesday!
Great! Welcome to the skies. Its a must to get on the sim as this will not only get the muscle memory in for the Manual Mode, but also get you used to being in goggles as it could get dizzying. have a safe flight and do ask away if you have any questions.
Nice one bruddah! Brilliant content!!! Loving it!
Thanks bro! Need to have another of those all night sessions with you soon!
I loved the video, great way to explain things!
Thanks! Hope to get more pilots into FPV as a whole eventually. See you in the next one!
I appreciate these videos thank you
Your most welcome. Thanks for watching too. See u in the skies 🤟🏽
Great tutorials! Big thanks!
You're most welcome! Hope they bring u as a much better pilot in the skies
I used to fly in a lot of simulators and drones in said simulators, and in VR. Thus the first time I turned on manual I was doing flips and rolls
Its all in the sim man. I cant believe there are inexperienced pilots daring to fly in M on the first go. A definite crash waiting to happen. See u in the skies friend 🤟🏽
@@TheReelRahim you too!
Appreciate the advice 🙏
You're most welcome. Fly safe friend!
Did anyone crash on your first flight? Tell me about it!
Great tutorial for newbies like me :) Got my DJI FPV weeks ago but still scared to fly it in M mode
Take your time and enjoy the journey. It is a marathon, not a sprint. Much to learn along the way ✌🏽
Best information I have seen. Really great. Thank you
You're most welcome. I used to spend hours on the sim, either doing new tricks, or just cruising and trying to get flying smooth. Really helped with muscle memory and hope to share and help others too! See you in the skies!
Excellent thanks …very good advice
And more to come! See you in the next one!
Great content as usual bro, learn a lots
Thanks! More content in the future! See you in the next one!
CongraTulations brother, your vídeos is verry good. O need learn Acro Mode, makes some vídeos about this please 😩🙏🙏🙏 tks. Bruno (from Brazil 🇧🇷)

You do great videos👍
Hahahaha its all good. Thanks for the support! See u in the next one 🤟🏽
Love your videos. You explain things so patiently for the beginners to understand. A big thank you!! I have a one question though. The rolls in the DJI Virtual App simulator are slow. And I couldn't figure out how to change the rates. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Ok u could follow this:
At the main page, top-right hand corner are the settings.
- Settings/ Custom Settings/ RC Exp (M Mode)
Try these new rates:
ruclips.net/video/C5s1HaFWcws/видео.html
Link within the episode if u wanna learn to find your own personal rates. If u like my rates. U can then input them in the drone. They do not automatically link, so its good to test them in the app b4 u get them set in your drone.
@@TheReelRahim THANK YOU!!! You are the best!!!
Thanks bro I have the fpv drone for 2 months I never still use manual mode still practicing can you make content how to do photography in fpv thanks
Always thought of making cinematics content, but not specifically photography. Thanks for the idea! Would be interesting to pull stills from this drone.
wish you have a trip to kl 1 day and share the tutorial face to face bro...until now i dun dare to fly in manual mode.
Its been so long too, havent gone to KL. Greetings! Hope things doing ok there. E DJI simulator is very similar, so i hope u can spend e hours there to really get used to manual and when ready, follow my tutorials and give Manual a try 🤟🏽
please make more tutorials. :) it helps.:) athank You.:)
Glad it has been useful to u! There will definitely be more FPV content coming up, so see u in the next one 🤟🏽
wouldn't you rather fly another sim? I didn't think DJI's was really that great.
Yup, tried 3rd party sims like Velo for desktop and FPV freerider work great too.
Great content, Rahim. Just got mine a week ago and am loving it so far. I’m gonna take my time before I go to manual mode but I’m kind of worried that I’m going to build up bad muscle memory by flying too much in sport mode. I think it adds some roll when you pitch while moving forward to help you turn smoother and I’m concerned about having to unlearn it when I go to manual. Thoughts?
Welcome to the DJI FPV family! Actually both skills of stabilised (N and S Modes) and non-stabilised (M Mode) will be equally useful. YES u will develop bad habits, for example what u mentioned. Another example is like when in N and S Mode, pushing forward on right stick moves the drone forward but in Manual Mode pushing forward will start e drone pitching forward. If you dont stop pitching forward, you will go into a front flip. This episode explains it:
ruclips.net/video/8WypWsn5I4Y/видео.html
So actually, when i started out few years back, i learned just the same. On a Phantom, Mavic and then progressed to DIY drones. And i learned, and re-learned all on the SIMULATOR FIRST. There is NO NEED to rush into flying Manual. Its a joy to do flips and dives, but it has its own learning curve. It helps to think of it as 2 separately different skillsets and controls. As u progress, u may think of it as "okay im in M mode, ease up on the controls and fly manually". You can afford to be aggreassive on N and S mode, but not Manual. Just take your time and enjoy the journey 🤟🏽
agreed. my first flight with manual mode, the drone ascend backwards....
Its really scary unlocking it on the first go. Hope you did not crash!
@@TheReelRahim Hi Rahim. This is my 4th flight. I'm using DJI Avata. Why is so quick to gain speed? It's not the case when I'm using sim. I don't event have to adjust the camera angle. This drone just blast forward with a little throttle ruclips.net/video/2yt4D4j1rM0/видео.html
in the goggles settings there is a setting where u put the altitude limit to on and this will not have the drone flip when maxing out the sticks
Yes, i believe u are referring to Attitude limit, not altitude. Lets u have a feel for Manual mode, without the drone being able to flip at max stick input.
Hi l have some questions. I’m enjoying your tutorials!! I recently downloaded the DJI simulator to my iPad. I don’t yet own a drone, googles or controller. Hope to buy in the near future. I’m good in N and sport mode. Trying to learn M mode. Questions. Is using the built in controller in the app ok. Very hard to fly slow in M mode in stadium, I usually start out good but quickly rise out of the stadium or end up flying backwards unable to start moving forward again. Ok to fly with 0 degrees tilt? Any help you can give me is much appreciated. Thanks for your videos!
Sorry I missed this. Been away for awhile. Perfectly fine to fly with the inbuilt controller! When I started out with DIY FPV, i practiced on mobile for weeks! It helped me get around understanding how acro flight works in Mode 2. From there it was VERY EASY to adapt to actual RC controller. Also, 0 deg is fine, but once u wanna start flying fast, u will end up having to face the ground. This is where you could raise the angle to something more suited to the speed and to see where you wanna go. Im at 25deg most of the time and could go up to 35deg to cover longer distances. But really no restriction on this. Just set it to an angle that best suits the situation. Hope that helps. No need to rush into learning bigger things. Most importantly is that you enjoy the skies. Safe practice and I'll see you in the skies!
Alt title for me:
Sim months and crash.
Like really i regret buying this drone for start.
How AM i going to fly near objects with a 1000$ drone that will die after one move.
Even after 50 hours in LiftOff and in Dji virtual fly the risk Is giantic.
Sorry to hear that. Yup, DJI did good marketing but didnt really explain the commitment in training and that the drone wouldnt take crashes very well
Awesome video! I have a question for you. What Mode did you choose in controller settings? Mode 2?
Yup, for myself is Mode2. If u r on other modes, U R LEGEND. Only coz i have never beem on other modes 😅. Thanks for watching. See u in the next one!
For me, i have to disagree. i tried roughly 30 minutes on the sim, but some parts are extremly unrealistic for example flipping, in the sim you can flip while having throttle constantly on, irl thatll make your quad slam into the ground upside down. I did 3 flights in manual ( at the highest legal altitude) then did full acro, 6-7 flights later im comfortable doing rolls flips rubiks cubes ect. Im in no way good compared to fpv flyers, but i came from zero experience in full acro and honestly id say fly high and USE THE PANIC BUTTON. this makes it really hard to lose control or crash, it saved me multiple times. im now experimenting with rates, id love to hear some recommendations.
Here are my latest rates. A mix of softer centre stick feel for smooth cruising, and then fast stick ends for those freestyle moves:
ruclips.net/video/C5s1HaFWcws/видео.html
Yep, if you go high, it will be forgivable. but jus heard too many crashes from the local community, and felt I needed to get this out. In SG, the limit is 60m and kinda not much space to try risky things first time for some. Its also true that the sim is not so accurate, but this is for the DJI FPV Virtual fly app. For other sims, gravity is adjustable and will give better flight feel. Just targeting the new pilots who didn't know that keeping pushing forward on the right stick would pitch the drone hard and cause it to crash. luckily there is the panic button, thats if u reacted fast enough or the ground came first!
@@TheReelRahim thanks bro. that makes alot more sense my limit is 125 m so plenty of space to practice. i ll check your rates out now
Bro 1 question.
During hovering/flying in manual mode. Can change mode to normal/sport?
Yes u can for both the sim and real flight. For the sim, only works if u r using DJI Virtual Fly app, as only it will recognize the other switches of the DJI controller. A 3rd party app will only know the direction controls, and not link the other switches to modes
@@TheReelRahim how about stick position during changing the mode as throttle stick not centered and not spring loaded?
Good question 👍🏼. I initially had a self-centering setup on the left stick, and wanted to get used to it. But i felt it was dangerous and instead set it up FPV style where the stick has free movement, same like my other FPV RC remotes. If the time comes that u were in manual and switched to S or N mode, then just estimate the centre position of the left stick. Since N or S is GPS guided, it will hover in place, and u will just need to maintain altitude by estimating a middle left stick position. U DONT NEED TO SEE IT on the remote, just as long as u adjust the drone till there are no altitiude changes.
@@TheReelRahim noted bro. Thank you for your time and explaination.😀
No prob, glad to help. See u in the next episode 🤟🏽
Bro you fly in which mode?
My question is should I set my RC to manual mode if I’m using the sim?
Yes, if u using e DJI Virtual fly app. But not needed if u are on a 3rd party app, as it wont recognize the DJI Controller, but just as a normal RC controller. Hope that helps 🤟🏽
@@TheReelRahim thanks Rahim
You are most welcome!
Thanks man. For some reason my Yaw is inverted on the simulator when I go into manual mode. Any idea?
No prob 🤟🏽. Aniways i dont think its a physical controller issue, since its only in M mode in e sim. Maybe just a glitch. There is no way to flip it in settings. So id recommend re-installing it. If that fails, then maybe trying out a 3rd-party free app first to confirm if its a app or controller issue. If yaw is still flipped, that confirms a controller issue, and only option is get back to DJI about it.
Hello, would you recommend flying with a tiny drone like a newbeedrone acro 65 over flying on a sim?
Thats a good option, but definitely costlier than a simulator. But will give u real-world practice. U will need to get a controller and goggles to match, and also many batteries and a good charger as that drone only flues for around 5mins. So it depends what is your situation and how u wanna grow in the hobby.
Why my M mode keeps going up without even moving the throttle up
Did u loosen the left stick (throttle)? Left stick is usually Altitude control in N and S modes, will now be Throttle in M mode. Means u will need to lower the throttle
Which is the link to download the video game to launch the dji fpv bought ?
Thanks in advance,
I just noticed i didnt put e link 😅
Here u go on android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.Freeride.Freerider_FREE
Its a free ver (limited settings and maps) but at least i can see if it works w your controller, and if e overall experioence works for u ✌🏽
IMO the DJI sim is the worst. Use your controller with Velocidrone, Liftoff or AI Drone Sim..
Yup, personally prefer Velocidrone, and for on the go, i prefer FPV Freerider since its on the go.
I set my max height to 500 meters, but when i fly manual mode 60 feet is the highest i can go, then will go to normal mode. Is 60 feet the highest for manual mode? Thanks.
Something seems wrong there. I mean 60ft is too low. Maybe u wanna get DJI to have a look at it. Show them your data log. Before that, maybe u wanna tru to install the firmware again?
hello rahim iam havin an strange problem with mi controller, maybe you could help me out. Thing is that when i use liftof or any other sim, after houers of use, the controller started to do strange things int the sim, "ghost moves", and then when i went flying was also doing this ghost moves on the drone :S dont know how to solve this problem
Sorry friend, when u mean GHOST MOVES, is it that there will be input from the controller to the drone, amd its not coming from u? If that is happening, u may have a problem with the internal gimbals of the stick. Yes the sensors are called gimbals too, and u may want to try doing stick calibration first. Its in your goggle menu under "Controls". Try it and if its still there, then u may want DJI to help u out ✌🏽
Thank you Rahim for the tips on this. May I have your opinion on one thing: do you think that it is imperative to be able to finish the advanced tracks in the sim before taking flight in the air in manual mode? I cannot finish the tracks in the time limit, however i am able to fly the drone in free flight quite well. I have the feeling that the advanced tracks are related more to drone racing rather than gently flying manually. What’s your opionoin? Thanks!
I CANT FINISH THEM EITHER. LOL! Nope i dont think there is a need. Morr important here is that i understand the Manual mode and having your reactions becoming more natural is more important in my opinion. As long as you have these, real world flying will tune those skills. See you in the skies!
@@TheReelRahim thanks!
Your're most welcome.
Crashed mine rn . Its full destroyed turned of the Motor by Mistake paniced switched to Sport Mode forgot to turn on motor and it was to late already 250m crash
Sorry to hear. Hope its repairable.
@@TheReelRahim no cam broken and both arms and battery is dead i have to get a replacement for 360€
Ooof. Thats steep. Wished they made a tougher drone though. Maybe if a V2 comes
Simulator and reality are very different. I recommend you to try it for real, the simulator is awful
Yup, it sucks. But kinda the focus here is to train up muscle memory. This reduces the risk of accidents happening on real flights. Thats y i recommend simulator practice first.
Don't use this drone to practice manual. You'll do your wallet a favor and practice on a 100 analog tinywgoop than this.
Tinywhoops are great, but I prefer on a DIY 5in drone. Good power, aggressive characteristics. A tinywhoop would be too "airy".
@@TheReelRahim fair point, I should've said a cheaper basher drone kit sort would be more appropriate.
