    If your vehicle can’t be scanned for codes it’s most likely a blown fuse. Check ALL fuses and replace when necessary. It can be hard to spot a bad fuse so don’t do it in a hurry. I replaced all my fuses with ones that light up when blown. Very easy to tell at a glance now.

      Eg, Most Countries a 2000 Model Subaru WRX Cannot be scanned with OBDII Scanner and plugging one in can actually Damage or blow up the ECU.

    I had a high idling problem on my 89 F250. I also had a starting issue, it would start when it was cold but after it warmed up, even a tiny bit, it would not start again until it cooled off after shutting it off. I plugged an OBD1 code reader into the truck and it kept pointing out the throttle position sensor. So I went down to my local auto parts store and bought a brand new throttle position sensor and I also bought a new throttle body gasket. I come back home, I take the entire throttle body off and saw that the gasket was completely destroyed from all wear and tear over the years. Good thing I bought a new gasket. After replacing the throttle position sensor and the gasket, that ended up taking care of my starting and high idling issues. Truck fires up whether it's warm or cold and it idles at normal RPMs. I have a 1989 Ford F250 XLT Lariat with a 5.8 351 Windsor.

    My v6 ecotec 3.8 litre GM based engine. Holden Commodore has a slipping problem and slurs when upshifting! When I boot it it's firm and performs like new! But as I found out a 4L60E transmission relies on TPS sensor? I put a manifold spacer increasing manifold runners and a top manifold spacer to increase volumetric efficiency! After I ported my spare throttle body and polished. Also ported and polished throttle body to intake manifold? Once I did the annoying re learn procedure on this vehicle it felt like a different engine! It takes off a lot quicker than before but was upshifting into second a lot earlier than before! Mace engineering in Australia told me : you need your ECU remapped and automatic transmission electronically modified! Because of the modifications etc. But now I'm going to try another TPS? Just lightly tightening the slack in my Throttle body cable stopped the hunting in idle? Can the TPS be serviced or cleaned with electronics contact cleaner? Being a potentiometer basically with a resistive track like a volume control dial on a stereo? How many times I've used cleaner on bad volume dials and worked perfectly? Any reply appreciated cheers from Australia subbed and liked 🙂👍👍👍

    On Ford quite often on the newer 96 up stuff you better replace the TPS pigtail too because that bottom wire feeds the ground for every sensor on the top of the engine plus the speed sensor and you'll notice the lockup torque converter engaging rough and not wanting to stay locked up. Dodge usually used better wire until later than 02 but similar if not identical symptoms as Ford. I've only ever had one Ford ever go into limp mode and when it does instead of the excessive idle like GM it usually stalls out. I've had dodge and Ford with bad TPS and no code thrown. But GM will usually throw a code. On vehicle's with a MAF sensor the TPS idling symptom and stalling and weird surging on the road could be either one. I'm not all that fond of Ford and Dodge with MAF unless it's new enough you can still get a factory OEM sensor at a reasonable price. So like 03+ today. GM is usually better about selling or having a part for something back in the early 90's (except certain Olds Buick and Pontiac cars like Cutlass Ciera, 6000, and century with the 3300 engine, and other batch fire injection parts on other GM cars).

  • @marckemp9955
    @marckemp9955 Год назад +3

    I'm going to explain this in print one more time. If you have a GM with a bad TPS you're definitely going to know it because it will go to Limp mode. The idle will be excessive and it will only have 2nd gear. Believe me, if it goes out you'll know. Take one of them apart...go online and buy a cheap Chinese one from some source and you'll find a spring and some electric printed board on the side that attached to the throttle lever. And as you accelerate that piece inside moves along that printed circuit and creates a voltage. Now someone says the problem only occurs at a certain RPM and thinks it's the TPS is bad in that spot. Let me point out why that's wrong. Because you're also using that stretch of the circuit in the lower gears at higher RPM. And it doesn't happen at those lower speeds in that same stretch, right? Now think about it. It's a vacuum leak. Put a vacuum gauge on a source of vacuum on the intake and watch the needle. You want it to be a steady 18-22 in hg. If it's jacking around it's not the TPS. And the longer you ignore that the higher the likelihood of a situation called hydro lock. If you only have the front water cross over then it's less likely but still not impossible. If you have the newer style GM engine that doesn't even have water crossing the intake well then there you go, it's not going to hydro lock because of an intake gasket leak. But it will cause driveability issues in certain ranges. It would have to be a pretty serious vacuum leak to have idle issues. Another thing you could do is scan the engine with your handheld and see how much vacuum it has at certain RPM and then compare it to spec. Ok, I'm just going to stare out into space the next time you say it's the TPS. A certain speed in overdrive is going to be a certain RPM. I completely understand why some people prefer the old carbs and simple transistor distributors or points. I prefer Druck. Some people still prefer Luft. We like what we like.

Even coming off accelerator she holds revs. Have to drop the clutch then brake or she will chug abit. Shifting up isn’t a problem. It’s the revs being held and fuel consumption. Only way I can get them down is gear changing an hitting the bite point to rev match but soon as I lift off the clutch she will go back to holding revs.

    2001 Grand Prix with a 3.1-liter motor, started idling high after good and warmed up. No codes at the time.
    When motor would idle too high, 4T65E trans would shift super late under light throttle. About 25 MPH and 2,500 RPM before it would hit 2nd. gear. Was OK the next day. 3rd. day, high idle and late shift again! This time the check engine light did come on. Code P0121. Scanner TPS angle percentage at idle shows 0 sometimes, and sometimes 0.39% and ~ 100% at WOT. One time while sitting there idling fine, ~ 700 RPM, all at once the idle kicked up to ~1,300 RPM all by itself. I looked at the scanner, now TPS angle percentage went up to 2.75%.
    From my readings it looks to me like the sensor IS receiving the 5V reference, and my ground in good, and my reference voltage is changing and being sent back to the ECM. My voltmeter is at my buddy's garage right now, so I could not do the voltage testing at the TPS connector, as you have outlined.
    I'm ready to take a chance based on my findings, and just install a new TPS.
    What do you think?

    I don't have a rough idle (usually) only had it a couple of times. It usually dies on me once it starts idling rough but it mostly dies on me when I'm driving. Just cuts off and ik it does because my oil pressure drops all the way and when I hit the gas it doesn't go. It's hard to steer and brakes barely work. Just started doing this about a week ago. Now it revs high rpms when shifting gears and when I use cruise control it will rev high Randomly to maintain speed.

    In 1st gear had to lay on the gas and goose it or she stalled. Same with next gear. Then someone decided i needed a new throddle body .
    The truck starts and just dies like its not getting oxygen. Oh, and i have to push her if i want her to move. . If i manage to get the rpms up , drop the clutch in first gear she wont budge. Im a female with a pacemaker/defibrillator my heart cant handle all that work.
    Im just thinking to dotch the throddle body for a 2 barrell carburetor but afraid im asking for more trouble

    • @easyautofix
      @easyautofix  Год назад +1

      Hi Tony, P2004 is a diagnostic trouble code that indicates a problem with the intake manifold runner control valve in your vehicle. This valve controls the flow of air into the intake manifold. it can cause issues with engine performance and fuel efficiency. There are a few potential causes of this issue, such as a faulty actuator, damaged linkage or cables, or issues with the wiring or electrical connectors.

    Didnt really help explain the symptoms of a manual 03 vitara. It doesnt have limp mode or trouble with with gears, it just dies when i brake and has rough idle and jerks me around every where. I wish when people do videos like this that instead of telling they actually show a car with them symptoms.
