In the internet world, doxxing is a type of cyber attack that involves searching and posting personal and identifiable information about an individual. Usually, the attacker research and analyzes the information you posted online and reveals your identity.

Doxxing can go way beyond social media. Often being stalked in person. I had no reason to be doxxed I was literally just vulnerable.
I was doxxed several times over the past 6 months
Lost my job because the followers of the doxxer made harassing phone calls to my place of employment and it got to be too much
I removed and deleted all my social media accounts

happening to me by a crazy hacker stalker and i know who it is, she has used my phone to call people to accuse me of being a stalker while she is the one!! she has used my gmail account to make an account saying i should die!! it is a nightmare and i hate them so much!

Changing your behavior to avoid doxing harassment is not acceptable. The solution is to let everyone know this is not acceptable and that there will be consequences for those who harass people in this way as well.
As for exposing private information this is usually illegal. So making an internet private conversation public is illegal.
Moreover you can consider that the real name of a public post under a pseudonym is private information even if the post is not, therefore making it also illegal to expose the true identity of the author(s).
Unless of course the message or post is a threat, then it could be self defence/public service to dox.
I agree with everything you said. I am curious why Congress seems very hesitant to make doxing illegal despite knowing that it is almost always used in malicious ways to harm people. The US just seems full of incompetent lawmakers, or they are getting bribed by Big Tech.
Get tough and dox back. Boycott a bad community. Raise awareness complain to tourists and city visitors. Run off business. When the police come for you turn them on your doxxers. Doxxing is snitching!!
You shouldn't tell personal information in unprivate way. Doxing is immoral but abusers don't care about morality. They care about profit (revenge/attention).

Stop your victim blaming. Sometimes even offline relationships go bad and turn into online stalking. Don't find excuses for crime. Make strict laws requiring Google and internet websites to quickly remove doxing or cyberstalking content within 24 hours or face fines.

The idea that zeroing in on info that's "already public" (but takes effort to find) is "legal" strikes me as dubious. This has always been an Internet privacy invasion. You used to have to drive and wait in lines at record buildings.
That's becuase it is "dubious". It's a false story peddled by Big Tech who doesn't want internet regulation. Making information that is hard to find or "already public" into one dossier to harass someone show malicious intent and absolutely should NOT be legal, fuck what anyone says. It's wrong and it deserves to be punished criminally or civily. Fuck Free Speech supporters who support doxing.
Your public information should not even ben public in the first place, it's all due to tech companies trying to trade your personal data for money. Ever figured why America doens't have a comprehensive data protection law?
It's not that it's used it's how it's used. If it's used for harassment it's obviously illegal.
What I feel this video needs to address is people searching sites or sites that sell your personal information without your consent. So you can be as cryptic as possible, but if those sites tell what identity is linked to an account or email address or even home address you don't just need a VPN but you have to find a way to purge your info
The best way to avoid doxing is avoid using social media entirely or at least harden your accounts.
To put things in perspective, I know one girl who is a pretty radical leftist who made some very unflattering comments about religion, a protected group. I Googled her name and the very first result was her LinkedIn account, complete with her current employer.

I almost got doxxed before, someone dm'd me in discord my IP address, then he started threatening me to leak it, I told him that I'm using a vpn and you don't have my real ip (while I actually wasn't using a vpn) and he fell for it.

Harassment if not illegal is definitely unlawful and typically a civil issue. The amount of suicide in our teens and school age kids because of this should draw attention.
i've got an example, which i don't know if it's considered doxxing or not. a person took a video of themselves being racist and people found out their other account on social media, messaged their school/workplace or families to bring awareness and to make the people do something about the behavior of the said person. because that doesn't really involve a malicious intent, right?

Intent is irrelevant if you release private information that is not publically available then you are doxing, regardless of motives.

Your too late with this information. I’m not not my social section of my email, but that’s where they began to gather my information, and I didn’t know how to purge them from my system. Now once the pieced my background information they vanished. They wanted me to protect me from people doing exactly what they were doing, which was trying to extort me. I had no idea how to stop their gathering process. Ugh!
So I showed a picture on cam in a voice chat room. The picture is of a vertical freezer case with a glass door in a grocery store. There is a reflected image of part of a face in the photo, which looks like it is inside the freezer. All that can be seen in the reflected image is the top of the person's head which looks partially or fully bald, glasses and part of the nose. There is no identifying information in the photo of that person's name, address, phone number, email address and no identifying information of the store, except the brand name on one of the items in the freezer, Simple Truth, which is a Kroger brand, but does not identify which Kroger affiliate and location. I believe the guy who sent me the picture is the one who took the picture. So it is probably his image reflected, although he has denied it is him, saying he has a FULL head of hair. I showed the picture on cam after he thoroughly pissed me off, thinking oooooh this is a way to piss him off in return. He then claimed I doxxed him by showing that picture on cam, although later on after I pointed out that he CLAIMED it is not him, he changed it to saying I ATTEMPTed to dox him whereas I say in response to him that I was simply trying to piss him off in return for him pissing me off. I believe many people who frequently use that chat program share my opinion that this guy is often irritating or annoying in his chat demeanor. So what do you think? Did I dox him? Did I do a horrific thing?
If you didn't try to blackmail, threaten, or any kind of harm to a person. It should not be considered as doxxing.

The way you mention VPNs might give a wrong impression on what those do. If you use a VPN and then connect with your usual accounts to everything and post pictures of your house under your real name etc. the VPN does absolutely nothing. In general VPNs help more against a totalitarian state that tracks their people on an ISP level and also can be used to circumvent geo-locking. Just be aware that instead of your ISP now your VPN provider will know which sites you visit.
Doxxing can only be dealt with by modifying your behavior. Never post anything that makes it possible to connect your real name/address with an account you don't want it to be connected with. What are such things? Could be a lot. Could be pictures where you see your street, neighbor house, etc. Of course a picture of yourself or people you know. Or just posting the same pictures on your real name account and your anonymous account, even if the pictures aren't anything of the previously mentioned. Could be the other accounts you follow/interact with. Could just be your style of writing! This is not a comprehensive list. But adding a VPN to all the measures mentioned in this video and to modifying your behavior is of course not bad.
