This is one of my favorite looking amps! My other favorite looking amp is McIntosh MC901
Whenever I see McIntosh blue VU meters I recall the Grateful Dead's "Wall of Sound". Saw the premiere at the Cow Palace way back when.

Hello, I just bought these Amps (MC3500 MK2) paired with Focal Sopra 2/Cary Audio SLP05 preamp also ran the KEF LS 50 Meta with these amps...these really are another level!! Worth the money in my opinion...never heard any of these speakers sound this good!

On my test/setup playlist I have David Roth’s recording of ‘Vincent’ which is just so well recorded and pure, plus I prefer his interpretation over Don McLean’s original. The next time I’m in Toronto I am going to have to listen to these (unobtanium for me!) amps. 😊

That will take a while :)
2301 is more tubey and warm. It's more organic and musical. 2301 is more along the lines of what people think a tube amp sounds like.
Excellent review! I am considering to buy a pair of this. Will it go well with B&W 801 D4?

Thoughts and prayers
In Europe CRT tv's used PL509 tubes the EL version uses 6 volt heater version used here should be a lot cheaper to produce than other types
How does the MC3500 Mk2 compare with the MC901 on speakers that can be bi-amped (e.g. Sonus Faber Serafinos or Amatis)? Thanks

How would this sound with a pair of Legacy Audio Focus or whisper?
Pathetically, I attended the Woodstock music festival in the summer of 1969. So, the stones did not play there and it was Richie Havens, not Haven, but who cares? I don't know that much - I was high some of the time (no more). I have a system with ARC 250SE monoblocks and Wilson Sasha DAW speakers - I suggest that the McIntosh-Yvette combination might sound similar. The bass in this particular combination is incredible - no subwoofers necessary.
Sorry - my bad - I wasn't even in North America in August 1969 - so before my time - Altamont!

The best EAR Yoshino 509 Mark II was designed around the 509 tubes by Tim Pavaracini these British monoblocs are ine of the finest sounding Amplifiers you will listen to. So it's not new or exclusive to Macintosh
You're right. And I even owned a pair of EAR 509 for a while! Duh
For 30 grand that box better better come with 20 grand inside.

At the end of the day it still a subjective opinion. Some people will still prefer a Class D $1,000 USD amp.
