    I don’t have a blender or food processor & I wanted to make something that needed powdered sugar which I didn’t have. I literally ground a small amount up in a small, hard plastic bowl also using using something spoon-like with more of a rounded end. Something like a hard plastic ice cream scooper. It worked so well but it was hard. I’m sure if I had fine sugar it wouldn’t have taken me so long.

    I'm really sorry, I know that it doesn't affect the recipe much in this instance but I can't get over the fact that you leveled the cup but then it wasn't full.

  • @momof2momof2
    @momof2momof2 3 года назад +12

    I've tried it, but it does not work. It's still grainy no matter how long you process it. I tried it for buttercream frosting and it was terrible. I have a cupboard in my kitchen that holds all of my baking needs. Most things are in clear canning jars to keep them fresh. Just keep confectioner's sugar on hand, along with well stocked baking needs.

    • @Kwelar
      @Kwelar 2 года назад +1

      I agree. It’s just not the same as real caster sugar. Probably something to do with how it is processed.

    • @pisicacutecat4869
      @pisicacutecat4869 10 месяцев назад +3

      I made it in a coffee grinder and it works way better than making it in a blender or a food processor. In the coffee grinder it only took a few seconds and it was fine powder.

      Did you pour your ground up sugar through a fine mesh strainer?

  • @Bennysbaked
    @Bennysbaked 3 года назад +2

    Don’t put granulated sugar in a food processor to achieve a finer grain. Pulverized sugar created in a food processor or grinder results in chopped-up sugar crystals that will not perform well.

    No idea why this didn't work for me. I have a Ninja blender. I blended 1 cup granulated + 1 t. corn starch...checked the texture, blended some more, but it still felt gritty and did not improve in texture. My blender is so powerful that after minutes of having it on, I can smell the motor heating up. I used the sugar anyway in a basic buttercreme frosting recipe and the end result was pure grit. What a waste! I went out to the store and bought some confectioner's sugar.

    • @CitizenPerkins
      @CitizenPerkins 7 лет назад +4

      +kelli -- The only thing I can think of is that you may have used too high a setting on your Ninja blender. The sugar has to stay on/near the blades while blending, but some speeds are so high that the sugar spends most of the time in the air circling the jar. You can also limit this issue by using the smaller blender jars. There's less room for the sugar to roam so it gets a proper smack down from the blades. That's what I use on my Ninja.

    I cannot get past the fact that the ad I had to watch before this video played was for a conspiracy theory publication. Does ATK choose the advertiser or RUclips? Either way, completely and utterly off putting and inappropriate. Even if it had been a legitimate but politically skewed ad, that would hardly be appropriate before a cooking video.

    They figured out how to make powdered sugar? Unless they've been living in a cave their whole lives I don't think it was a big secret. A bunch of cooks in uniform could have educated us on how to make powdered sugar, but to take credit for figuring it out?
