The main modifications I did to mine was to lift it 15mm with beefier King Springs, put Koni absorbers and bigger 215/80/R15 tyres (around 3cm more clearance!). I find it super capable off road, to be honest, and still very good on the road (or as good as a Jimny can be). That said, I use it to go to places, not rock crawling or anything like that 😊

it would be interesting to see the same cars compared for on road sealed road cornering and breaking. Given that most cars spend more time on made roads and in heavy traffic the unmodified original Suzuki Jimny may ultimately prove to be the most versatile and best all rounder. It performed very well. The option to use lockers is an obvious advantage, that has little effect on the car when disengaged. Do the All Terrain off road tyres give the same good road holding on bitumen at speed as the stock standard tyres? Does increasing the tyre size increase stress on the drive system, increasing break downs down the track? Does the 2" (5 cm) lift increase the danger of rolling the car when turning at speed? Can the larger All Terrain tyres be fitted without a lift kit? This was one of the best, most objective video comparisons demonstrating the advantages in off road modifications for off road driving I have ever seen. Well done! Thank you all for sharing. 👍
Not much difference to average driver. Unless you are pushing the very last out during cornering, like in a race track like a race car driver, you are in no risk. 5cm isn't significant at all for normal drivers, who are not driving on the very edge of the capabilities of the car. Normal drivers perhaps maxes out at around 50 to 70 percent of its capability.

One of the limits of the Suzuki Jimny is the fuel tank size. The UK is limiting the Jimny to a 2 seater version registered as a commercial vehicle. Could removing the rear seat enable a larger fuel tank to be fitted a give a larger, flat, one level cargo bay? Do the seats lay back enough to allow one to sleep rough in the car? All you'd need is a small car fridge for fresh food, a few dozen bottles of drinking water, a small winch and some max tracks, a shovel, and puncture/compressor emergency kit and one or two people could get to most places in Australia without fear of being stranded.
Look at buying a ‘Long Ranger Fuel Tank’, it completely replaces the stock fuel tank underneath the car. It has a 80 L capacity and doesn’t sit any lower than the stock fuel tank. The kit comes with some replace pipes for the exhaust however so most after market exhaust systems are incompatible
Can U do another, if not to much too ask, hahaha.. Comparing the weights, how much can it handle to go through the 2nd steep climb. Especially when a RTT is mounted and a total of 40L of water and gas..
Hi Had a few query before installing an air locker on my Jimny 1) Does the fitment of an air locker affect the overall performance of the vehicle and fuel mileage 2) Since air lockers are used only sparingly when situations warrant most of the time it is going to be an open differential hence does it affect the cornering performance on normal roads since the differential set up has changed and does that affect the drive quality on Tarmac when they are disengaged. 3) Like what is shown in the video, the two tracks had sudden turns the first on the left and the second track had a turn to the right so since the locker was engaged prior to ascending the terrain do the axle and locker get damaged when you take that turn.

Great video mate! Love the channel! Would love for my next mod to be lockers. Do you think 235s or bigger would be to big for outback touring in Australia? I’m tossing up between 215s and 235s at the moment with a plan to do some reasonably serious beach and outback tracks.
Hey mate Thankyou so much 😊 I have now had 31’s, 30’s and 235/75’s and if I was touring I’d definitely go the 235/75’s in an all terrain. I just think they’ll give you a fraction more clearance and footprint but won’t affect fuel economy too much. Just my opinion, but that’s what I’d do 😊
@@TheLittleRig Okay. N can 235/75 r15 tyres be fitted in Jimny without suspension lift? Apart from slight front bumper rubbing, will they even rub on wheel arch if the vehicle is with 4 passengers?
Can only speak for myself here….. I have 33” tyres on now. A bit slow off the mark if doing a hill start, but everything is completely fine in every other way, as my reduction gears make the rpm’s standard for road driving. Oh, and my fuel consumption in shite 😂
Most 4x4 workshops should be able to do this for you. They would be familiar with pulling apart differentials. Someone from South Africa told me just the other day that you need to import your air lockers in from ARB as there aren’t any local air locker suppliers for the new Jimny yet. Not sure if that’s correct but hope it helps 😊
Great video shooter mcgavin! Excellent demonstration of the benefits of different upgrades. Stock jimny is indeed capable out of the box. I’m considering 215/75r15 AT tyres, anyone have suggestions on brands?
Haha I have no idea why I kept doing shooter Mcgavin hands 😂 Personally I really liked the BFGoodrich AT tires back when I had them. They were excellent. So they would be my recommendation 😊
Hey man! Love your build. Ordered mine from the dealership the other day (delivery expected early next year). I have a few questions. How's the fuel consumption with your current offroad rig? Do you bring jerry cans with you? Do you use 98 fuel?
Hey mate! 😊 with the new 33” tyres and gearing, fuel consumption is about as bad as you could possibly imagine haha. I get 300km from a tank of fuel if I’m lucky. I use 98 and yep I carry 2 5L jerries with me at all times haha. Just in case!
Hmmm I personally wouldn’t worry about a lift unless I was going to increase the tyre size, as that’s really the main benefit of a lift, but completely up to you of course 😊 Sometimes a good suspension upgrade is worth it purely for the better handling or if you’re getting roof racks for example or toeing a trailer, to allow the the extra weight. So definitely could still be worthwhile depending on your circumstances 😊
I did it step by step. Gave me a breather as I don’t have loads of money. First step was a 2” lift with normal tyres. Then when it was time for new tyres I went with bigger ones. Next step will be lockers (m still confused whether front or rear first, but it will be both later)
Hi Darren, nice meeting you today at the Sydney 4x4 show and discussing our lift for our up and coming Jimny. Sold on the 3” instead of the 4”. Just one question you mentioned as we have the same -25 offset. Will the 31” require a reduction gear setup ? Thanks Sean & Janet.
Sorry mate I only just saw this. It was great meeting you guys! 😊 Yeah it would definitely benefit off-road with the reductions. Even if it was slightly less like 77% low and 7% high. But personally, when I put my 31’s on occasionally I really like the 87%, 17% with them. I think it’s perfect.

Muy buena demostración, queda claro la diferencia entre un Jimny de serie versus uno con modificaciones. La importancia de los neumáticos es fundamental y con unas pulgadas de levante hacen la diferencia. Nuevamente, felicitaciones.
It’s a diff lock which essentially locks the diffs together so that both wheels on the same axle will spin together no matter what. So when one side loses traction and stops while you wait for traction control to kick it, with a diff locker on the wheels won’t stop spinning regardless, so you always have tyres turning pushing you through the obstacle.
Hey mate don’t worry that transfer case noise is in every single manual jb74 made so far. It’s part of the charm. Haha. It’s harmless. Annoying, but harmless 😊🤙🏼
Poor little 1.5 liter engine. So much to handle with these diff locks, steel front bumbers and bigger tyres. I hope Suzuki engineers will put at least 1.8 liter in it soon.

- More diversity of problems or situations for the cars to solve.
Either way, thanks for putting this up, super interesting!!
PS: Sub'd! (was already on IG, same name there)
Thanks for the feedback mate it’s very much appreciated and I do take all suggestions on board 😊🙏
Just my opinion, but that’s what I’d do 😊
hello! DId you manage to setup 235/75 AT? I'm also tossing 215/235 because of power/fuel economy
Are 235/75 r15 fitted on stock rims that are 5.5J?
Aint 6J rims the minimum requirement for 235/75 r15?
Legally yes. But I’ve seen people run 32” tyres on the stock rims no issues at all.
@@TheLittleRig Okay. N can 235/75 r15 tyres be fitted in Jimny without suspension lift?
Apart from slight front bumper rubbing, will they even rub on wheel arch if the vehicle is with 4 passengers?
@@draseemhooda definitely only slight rub on the front bumper when turning and flexing 😊
Nice comparison off road, but how has the mods affected the daily drive on road and freeway?
Can only speak for myself here….. I have 33” tyres on now. A bit slow off the mark if doing a hill start, but everything is completely fine in every other way, as my reduction gears make the rpm’s standard for road driving.
Oh, and my fuel consumption in shite 😂
Figured the stock got driven back on a flatbed after crushing the underside!
lol what? Nah just had a small dent to the radius arm mount. Easy fix. That 4x4 life though 🤙🏼
Where do you fit a front abd rear difflock. I'm in south africa? What kind of garage would do this?
Most 4x4 workshops should be able to do this for you. They would be familiar with pulling apart differentials. Someone from South Africa told me just the other day that you need to import your air lockers in from ARB as there aren’t any local air locker suppliers for the new Jimny yet. Not sure if that’s correct but hope it helps 😊
Also want a locker (South African). Did you find suppliers?
Jimny No. 3: When rear difflock is engaged, is front axle traction control still active?
It’s sure it mate, but barely ever comes into play as that rear pushed it through so much easier 😊🤙🏼
How much for reduction gears, big fella.
Hey mate, they were from Protrack in Greece, they’re 87% low range 17% high range. Cost was about $1300 I think from memory.
Great video shooter mcgavin! Excellent demonstration of the benefits of different upgrades. Stock jimny is indeed capable out of the box. I’m considering 215/75r15 AT tyres, anyone have suggestions on brands?
Haha I have no idea why I kept doing shooter Mcgavin hands 😂
Personally I really liked the BFGoodrich AT tires back when I had them. They were excellent. So they would be my recommendation 😊
I have a 2 inch lift (50mm) and I have BFgoodridge 215 75 R15 all terrains. Very happy.
I've got 697 Duelers in the same size on mine.
Quiet on the sealed roads and still very capable off road
@@TheLittleRig Hahah, oh man! True. Do you mount them on the back door where the tyre used to be or?
Nah mate I literally have them Inside, one behind each seat.
Hi, do you have an address where you get the tuning of the 4th car?
Gruß aus Berlin👍🏻
best
😊😊😊
5:23 this is exactly how I thought about momentum drivers.
They have SOMETHING to prove, at the expense of the wagon.
Instead of calling it quit.
Does it make sense to lift the Jimny 2-3 inches on stock wheels/tyres?
Hmmm I personally wouldn’t worry about a lift unless I was going to increase the tyre size, as that’s really the main benefit of a lift, but completely up to you of course 😊 Sometimes a good suspension upgrade is worth it purely for the better handling or if you’re getting roof racks for example or toeing a trailer, to allow the the extra weight.
So definitely could still be worthwhile depending on your circumstances 😊
@@TheLittleRig yeah I was thinking for better handling and clearance. I will probably just keep the stock tyres until they need changing. Thank you!
I did it step by step. Gave me a breather as I don’t have loads of money. First step was a 2” lift with normal tyres. Then when it was time for new tyres I went with bigger ones. Next step will be lockers (m still confused whether front or rear first, but it will be both later)
nice video
Are there more videos that feature Jen (and her legs)?
Hahahaha not at this stage but I’ll work on it 😅
Were they auto's or manuals?
Manuals mate 😊
Actually stock Jimny is auto, everything else manual.
My dream car
😊😊🙏
quick question, when installing air locker is there any adjustment recommended for the eLSD?
Hey mate, not even going to try and bluff and answer here, I honestly have no idea. Had my lockers installed by ARB as that well above my pay grade 😅
@@TheLittleRig thanks, i am having ARB locker installed in a few weeks as well as theLongRanger TR87, stoked on making my JB74W a longrange rig
Awesome mate that will be so good 🙌🏼
Hi Darren, nice meeting you today at the Sydney 4x4 show and discussing our lift for our up and coming Jimny.
@@TheLittleRig always appreciate you dedication to the Zook community, you are a real asset to us. Thanks for the reply. The 87/17 have arrived sadly still waiting on the Jimny. SeanK
thankyou.
Most welcome 😊
All this from a 1.5l engine?
Actually I like to know the roughly cost of each upgrade! Thanks in advance!Good video!👍👍👍
Lift and tires - $2800
Plus rear air locker - +$2200
Plus front sir locker - +$1600
Rough prices only of course. Would vary greatly from country to country.
@@TheLittleRigThanks for your reply. I will coming back to Melbourne later. Hopefully the 5 door Jimny will be release by then. I will get one and learn some off roading. Cheers!
Does Jimny 4 feels lousy on road?
No I don’t think so, I think it’s just as much fun on road 😊
Excellent small jimny
Thankyou 😊
Muy buena demostración, queda claro la diferencia entre un Jimny de serie versus uno con modificaciones.
La importancia de los neumáticos es fundamental y con unas pulgadas de levante hacen la diferencia. Nuevamente, felicitaciones.
Thankyou so much 😊 Yes I definitely agree that tires and lift make a very big difference as a first modification 👌🏻
What is a locker
It’s a diff lock which essentially locks the diffs together so that both wheels on the same axle will spin together no matter what. So when one side loses traction and stops while you wait for traction control to kick it, with a diff locker on the wheels won’t stop spinning regardless, so you always have tyres turning pushing you through the obstacle.
Suzuki Gypsy, Jimny, Samurai.. Names may differ, but DNA is same🔥 Global Suzuki family.. @BeardedRedDevil
Very true mate 😊 and what a family it is 🙌🏼
@@TheLittleRig Indeed, we're connected over Instagram, @gypsyreddevil.overlanding would be me.🙌🏼
Are they all manuals?
The jungle green (stock) Jimny is the only auto.
Cool! That’s what I ordered the jungle green. Can’t wait! Nice video mate! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thankyou mate 😊
reduction gears make a massive difference
Absolutely mate! Huge difference.
@@TheLittleRig I have 85% in my Patrol with a 2.8l engine, makes the small engine size irrelevant
Guys anyone has got manual jimny with that annoying chain noise in first gear?
Hey mate don’t worry that transfer case noise is in every single manual jb74 made so far. It’s part of the charm. Haha. It’s harmless. Annoying, but harmless 😊🤙🏼
@@TheLittleRig Thanks mate, that is reassuring
Yep. Just gonna leave it like that 😁
Show me you went up telecome hill
Yeah mate there’s a few videos of me doing telecom hill on my Instagram. Crawled up super easy actually. Was a good little track 😊
@@TheLittleRig
Love your truck. Looks awesome.
@@shanesambo5633 Thankyou very much 😊🙏
Poor little 1.5 liter engine. So much to handle with these diff locks, steel front bumbers and bigger tyres. I hope Suzuki engineers will put at least 1.8 liter in it soon.
That’s why we put reduction gears in. Takes so much stress off everything. But yes I agree, they definitely need at least a 1.8L 👍🏼😊
Stock vs Not
Зачем на белом джимни капот испортил, сделал траурний, и кришу траурную.
They have no technique in climbing rough roads , not for anything else this is what i observe when they drive .....
I think you missed the entire point of the video mate 🤦♂️
* Tyres * 🤬
I’ve catered to Americans and Australians in my two headings. Gotta plan these things mate 😜
