This is the key. The feel of keeping my back to the target while I started my arms down completely changed my game.

It worked for me instantly on the range. Can’t wait to take it to the course!

Wow... hit a shot and topped it. Used the drill and it was on point. Then hit another shot without the drill and topped it. Used the drill again and hit another great shot. This will definitely be part of my pre-swing routine. Thank you!

I’ve been struggling off the tee (and putting) lately so I decided this would go in my pre shot routine. 2 practice swings taking my right hand off at the top then stepping into my shot.
Absolutely smoked it today. Including driving a 290m par 4
    Thanks Mark!

I've been struggling a bit adjusting to new irons that are 1/2 inch longer than my old set. I'm always skeptical when I see tips that have "simple", "easy" in title...lol. Just as some other's here, this was an "instant" fix for me at the range. Thanks Mark, I always enjoy your content.

Interesting… I can see how the drill promotes that feel which promotes that path and sequencing. Great stuff Mark! Looks like I should give this a go!

Thanks, Mark - always excellent instruction. And perhaps a nice side benefit (or better put, requirement) of this drill is that it will make me more aware of my grip pressure - ie how the death grip I usually put on the handle is the very thing that allows me to have enough 'control ' of the club to swing it over the top!

Thanks for sharing. One out of thousands of videos posted that I bother to pay attention to. Reason that I have been doing it with my golfers with similar drill but for both leading n trailing hands alternately. But also pay attention to the syncro of footwork, upper big muscle n wrist. All have to work in tandem..

This is a great idea for a drill and I can't wait to try it after work. Mark, is there agreement among golf professionals on why the over the top swing is so common? I find it so interesting that golfers all over the world tend to have the same swing fault, which suggests to me it is "natural" to swing over the top...albeit incorrect.

Over the top comes primarily due to a timing and comfort issue. If you start your downswing with your torso or you want to throw out your arms to where there's more space (esp if you're a bit bigger person) you're coming over the top. It's not 'natural' to have a compact power generating swing in sport or engineering. Only through the correct timing and the tightening and stiffening of any structure does peak speed reached at the point one wants it to. No idea where you think 'natural' is usually most effective especially in a sport where 5 degrees off axis at any joint or a tenth of a second firing a muscle makes such a large difference.

    Hi mark, great videos
I’d like to hear your opinion of shaft lean / Handle position at address.
If you set the shaft lean at address should this dictate how you should grip the club? Strong, neutral or weak?
So you set the lean with the right hand, then take grip with your left. Finally you re-grip with your right

Great drill - will this work for driver? I draw my irons but come over the top on my driver - very frustrating!

Why does everyone offer swing drills to fix over the top when the overlying reason people come over is because of alignment!! They aim right of the target because of how their eyes see the target and swing over to get the ball to the target.

That’s one reason but I promise you it’s not the reason I swing over the top. It’s my shoulders rotating too early. My arms don’t drop like I see the pros do. Hopefully this will help

Golf, the only game that your natural instincts to hit a ball are coached out of you so you can then get lessons to learn what you already knew prior to lessons 😊

Never thought the day would come…but I’m going to have to unsubscribe. Thank you for all the videos over the years. You’ve been my favourite RUclipsr/ coach. I just can’t deal with repetitive swing fix videos every day. I understand you’re probably just doing it to make a living but I’m so gutted 😢
Good luck with the channel :)
