Great analysis. A little insight in to the music on the show, the score was composed by Isobel Waller-Bridge who has scored a number of films and TV series, including Fleabag with her (actor, writter, producer) sister Pheobe Waller-Bridge. Pheobe was also the lead writer for the first season of Kiling Eve. The 45 minute, six episode season is a staple of UK made TV shows, that focus on characterisation and pace of storytelling, rather than in depth back stories particularly of supporting characters. The score is marvelous at building suspense and tensions, and enhances the quirky and dark humour aspects of the show. The theme tune ('Do You See Me Now') was written by Isobel and British artists CHINCHILLA, who also performs the song. CHINCHILLA is probably best know for her viral hit _Little Girl Gone,_ and also provided a cover of the Fleetwood Mac's song _The Chain_ for the Amazon streaming series My Lady Jane.
I have seen the trailer for this and ive had my eye on this for a while especially after seeing Ella on the fallout show, shame that the others didn’t hold up as strong as Ella but glad to hear that for the most part the show is good great review man
Just binged it... yes Ella is amazing but that is to be expected, she has been top-tier in everything I have seen her in, especially in Yellowjackets and Fallout. The series itself was a good representation of the theme of the book and the plot changes suited the compressed time period of the story. It is not the same quality as Fallout but considering the cast, crew and budget of Fallout that is only to be expected. To summarise absolutely loved it and would be keen to see a season 2 but with Starz it is a coin toss (at least it wasn't Netflix so it isn't guaranteed to be axed)
It's very refreshing to watch a movie or show where Ella Purnell can actually use her real English voice. Also I'm becoming convinced Hollywood is purposely keeping Ella and various other actors away from big budget movies specifically so they can't overshadow their beloved "A list" and nepo baby actors.
@@GeeklyGoods I've been working in the film and TV industry for over 20 years and can confirm there's no such thing as working your way up and any honest person would also outright say it. You won't believe how many times I've asked a crew member "how did you get that job?" and without fail the answer will always be "I knew someone..." I've also talked to creative types in the past about how to approach getting into a different field in the industry and she told me not to go that route because she seen too many times companies/studios are more than happy to take advantage of people's cheap or free labour (like if they're trying to get a office job as a intern or something like that) then toss them out once they can't get anymore free labor and find the next person willing to do it. And others more or less have given plenty of what not to do tips. Keep in mind, these are all just low entry jobs. The actual "A list" jobs? Forget about it. If you aren't a freakin nepo baby, your only other odds of getting in is that your close to some high power play in Hollywood such as how Hugh Jackman is close friends with Fox owner Rupert Murdoch. You can also bet it requires that person to prove they will be a loyal and obedient boot licker to said higher ups. I also remember being in a seminar with a producer of a big budget 90s movie and she said she got yelled at by the higher ups because she didn't force a hiring on the main cast. That was back in the 90s. It seems even worse now. For example when any of their beloved "A list" (or someone Hollywood is trying to position as a new A list member like that Timothee Wonka dude) or nepo babies get any success, Hollywood does not hesitate to rush out the next project to try and capitalize on their success. When a non "A list" or nepo baby gets success, it's crickets chirp. For example Ella holds viewership records on 3 different streaming services. Army of the Dead was one of the top 10 most viewed movies of 2021 and repeatedly got back onto the top 10 most viewed charts throughout the entire year of 2021. Yellowjackets is Showtime's most watched show ever on the platform and it's well known Ella is a massive fan favourite on that show despite her character is dead. Then of course there's Fallout which is either the #1 or #2 highest viewed show worldwide on Amazon Prime. And what theatrical movies does Ella have lineup from this success? A indie B horror movie about killer squirrels... There's other examples like how Renee Rapp literally only has two acting roles in films or TV. Sex Lives of College Girls and the Mean Girls reboot, yet this was more than enough for her to develop a massive fanbase that her agent encouraged Renee to stop relying on Hollywood and bet on her yourself and to open a music tour. The results? Renee sold out entire stadiums in literal minutes and made headlines for being one of the fastest people to sell over 100,000 tickets. And what is Hollywood's reaction to this ridiculous success and clear evidence of growing star power? More crickets chirp as I haven't seen any news about Hollywood trying to get her any movie deals or anything. They're more than happy to try and get Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift movies roles in big movies despite they're not even actors, but someone who actually is a actor with this level of ticket sales? Yeah lets not use her... There's other examples, but this is clear blatant gatekeeping. Anyone in touch with reality would know it's utterly insane to not use these actors when, unlike they're beloved "A list" and nepo babies, actually have a clear proven organically grown fanbase with numbers to back it up.
I disagree about the side characters, Norman, AJ and the other love interest are solid and the detective is great. Julia is the only character that was a bit wooden. Having said that it could be deliberate to really highlight how big Ella’s character is which is what sells the show!

When she screamed at the end of the first episode, I cheered out loud for her with my fist in the air!

Ella is amazing in everything she’s in! Oh and I 100% would buy into that, Hollywood gate keeping is a real thing
