    Venture X was my first travel card. I researched many cards and I found this to have to most value for my needs. I am not into fancy trips but I like to travel. I am still trying to find the value in the Amex Platinum. Many in the travel hacking game have it but I cannot justify the $695 fee yet.

    I think there is an underrated duo play here you might want to cover: VentureX + Savor or SavorOne vs. AMEX Platinum + AMEX Gold. Since Capital One let’s you transfer points from a Savor or SavorOne to a VentureX, you can essentially have a card that’s 3x grocery (that’s grocery, important, the AMEX category is “US supermarket”), dining and entertainment paired with your 2x VentureX. This may be better for generating spend than 4x on a Gold because you don’t pay an annual fee (and you don’t need to spend $10 every month at Shake Shack to recoup your AMEX Gold annual fee) ;)

    • @scottkeith2587
      @scottkeith2587 Год назад

      To me the gold perks are so easy to use the fee is irrelevant. Anything through GrubHub or UberEats works so you aren't limited to just shake shack or cheesecake factory lol.

      bingo - my VentureX + SavorOne duo has been amazing. all grocery, dining, coffee, etc.that qualify 3x on S1, additionally CapOne's shopping portal offers so many cash back deals so I check there before online shopping (ex: vivid seats offer for 8% cash back, H&M 12%, etc.); and all other purchases on VX (2x for misc, 5x flights, 10x hotels). S1 can be redeemed for statement credits or 1:1 to cover purchases or redeem on amazon, and more, then I rack up VX points for future travel.
      This doesn't even take into account how simple my travel planning is with CapOne's travel portal is to use and the price savings they offer, and totally ignoring all the other perks...

    • @gagesaenz3864

      The Savor and SavorOne just keep getting better and better too. They added streaming platforms as a category for 4x (Savor) or 3x (SavorOne) back, including RUclips TV, and all the major streaming sites. They now have free UberOne membership for the next 2 years ($240 value), and 10% back on Uber and Uber Eats, which can then be converted to VentureX Miles like you stated. I know this is only a 2 year thing, but I think Capital One and Uber are very likely to strike some sort of parternship before that ends. I think a lot of people are sleeping on the VentureX and Savor bifecta.

    As far as a card you can actually USE while traveling, it seems like Venture X wins by a landslide here--even against the CSR. For me, a travel card that has max value for literally anything, while traveling, is an understated perk. I can spend while on a trip, knowing that I'm not losing out on points, or paying foreign transaction fees.
    Personally I think the Venture X just has more room to grow, period. To call it an "assault on the Platinum" is quite on the nose. I went with the Venture X earlier and can't wait to use it.

    Definitely thinking about adding this card - when the DFW Centurion was uncomfortably crowded recently my fiance suggested we try the Capital One lounge since she has a Venture card. I must say the Capital One longe at DFW was very nice and much more comfortable, at least on the day we were there. The food was excellent and the views are much nicer. I think I'll keep the CSP rather than upgrading to CSR and and go with Venture X instead.

    Sebby always making MVP caliber videos. Keep ‘em coming. 🦷
    I am quite frugal and sometimes have to find ways to meet spend minimums. For anyone else in a situation like that, a couple suggestions (if you haven’t already thought of it).
    1. My city accepts all but AmEx for property taxes and charges 2.45% but since Cap One Venture X gives 2% back on everything, that’s effectively less than half a percent per dollar.
    2. I started withholding less from my paychecks so that come tax filing time, I would have the option of paying with a credit card, if it happens to be advantageous. I believe all the vendors that the IRS outsources their tax collection to, charge a shade under 2% (like 1.95% or 1.99%) = break even.
    3. I didn’t used to be able to charge any of my utilities to a CC but lately some have started accepting credit cards for a nominal fee. I haven’t tried it yet but I think I could possibly also pay in advance. If that works, I could pay the next several months’ water, gas and electricity bills, for example.

Because I usually don’t like to book with portals because if there’s a cancellation or something then it can be a hassle as everyone tries to push you off to someone else. Working on the Venture X bonus currently. The card was a no brainer. I’m not a VP level employee that travels constantly, or live in a downtown setting. I also don’t see a lot of value in the couponing aspect of the Plat. And for my spending habits, the Venture X + Savor out earn a comparable Chase stack. The bonus should be easy peasy as we’re renovating a condo next month too. Plus we’re already cashing in on the perks. Taking a trip to Austin next month for the Moto GP race and redeemed our $300 credit already and using Hertz Presidential for our rental… 🦷🦷🦷

    One of the things the venture x has going for it is you can create an easy 2 card system with the SavorOne. You then have a 2x card, travel bonus via the portal, and bonuses on dining, groceries and streaming. All in the same transferable points for a -$5 net annual fee.

      Amex Platinum is a card geared toward people that travel heavily. If you spend a lot on travel, you're going to appreciate its benefits. If you're taking 3 or fewer trips per year, then the Venture X is hands-down the winner. However, If you're taking a lot of trips per year (5+), the better travel partner list, the lounge access, and the flexibility of 5x points booking through airlines directly, all make the Amex Plat an incredible value. This card was a really smart move from Capital One, though, because it catches all of the people that can't make the CSR or Amex Plat work for them.

    • @ryanshannon6963
      @ryanshannon6963 2 года назад +1

      @@nichtsistkostenlos6565 I would say that the frequency of travel is probably less the determining factor so much as the hotel status offered with the Plat. If you're someone that doesn't care about that (AirBnb bookers, typically), then the plat makes much less sense than the VX. Also, you need to consider that if you're traveling that much, you're probably spending nearly as much money at restaurants as you are in hotels (depending upon the properties you decide to stay), so the bonus for restaurant spend is much more useful with the VX than dishing out another 250 for the amex gold. Unless, as you correctly stated, you travel over 1 month out of every year (as most of us *do* eat at restaurants in our everyday lives). Amex Plat is definitely going after a lifestyle demographic and straying quite far from what made the plat so appealing: the brilliant travel perks at a price that wasn't so eye-gouging. Venture X is filling the void that amex is leaving behind and I truly appreciate that. Also, VX added the Plaza lounges to their network, so that's one more arrow in the lounge quiver for VX.

    Every time I attempt to book through AMEX travel, the trip ends up costing one to $200 more than booking through the airline itself.

      And that seems to be the problem with booking through third-party basically you're earning points versus shelling out hard currency AKA cash just to get that back in points. That's definitely not a good thing

    Sooooooo Question. I had applied for a Amex card sometime in the beginning of Covid like early Covid September, October somewhere around that time thinking I’ll be able to travel, use hotels and be able to get the sign up bonus but really beyond that travel but as we all know Covid hit and we where all stuck in the house for months. Then from lifting mandates on and off. I ended up not being able to use my card for a while but little small things here and there nothing travel related. I ended up calling Amex and trying to get an extension on the sign up bonus and they kept telling me to just do some traveling and the points will stake up but the bonus if I am not mistaken was around 120,000 points or so give it take and to get that many point will take a little while to accumulate. So my question is: is there anything I can do to get those points or retry at the sign up bonus?

  • @RedTach

    The Venture X bonus is down to 75,000 now, but you just need $4000 over 3 months to get that, so that may be more doable for many.

    I think you need to clarify what kind of travel. For international travel the Amex is basically useless overseas. In many stores or cities, in foreign countries around the world, they don't take Amex. I carry both the CSR and the Amex and the Amex stays in the wallet while overseas. So if I had to pick between those two, Capital One is by far the best travel card.

    I’m on the “Chase Trifecta” and love it. Get lots of free travel. But it would be nice to have only one card to keep up with. Would Venture X be a viable option? Seems it would be $5 (after credits)and 2x miles on non travel spending vs the trifecta’s (usually 1.5% on the Freedom card) and 25% point boost for travel redemptions.

    • @junior5893

      Thats what I'm trying to figure out also. I too am on the Chase train. My CSR AF is coming due this month and I'm weighing options.
      What has kept me with Chase is that the points are worth more in the portal. 1.5% adds up very fast compared to 1%. But if you're accruing points faster because you get 2X back no matter what with Capital One is it a wash??

Did you consider including the Chase Sapphire Reserve in this one, or would that have made the video too long? For me, I am partial to AMEX, but am still not in a place where the Platinum card would be right for me. Maybe over the next couple of years my travel itineraries will change to where the Platinum card makes more sense for me. At least, I hope my travel destinations change so that it will make sense.

    Think I want both. Upgraded my venture one to the venture x already since the card effectively pays me $5 to keep it if I use it to book only one trip per year. I want the amex for better lounge and hotel benefits though and estimate I will use about $600-$700/yr in credits to offset the $695 annual fee. With these two, I wouldn't need the CSR (can't justify the effective $250 annual fee after its $300 travel credit, as I would not use any other credits or benefits it offers).

    • @Scott-td4fd
      @Scott-td4fd Год назад +1

      I ended up doing both. I did let go of Amex Gold and upgraded. I did like the Amex Gold, but I have been finding I use Citi Custom Cash or often Discover for restaurants and grocery shopping (for 5%) as a single consumer, since I usually don't exceed the max for those benefits. If Discover isn't offering restaurants or grocery shopping in a particular quarter, then Citi Custom Cash for groceries at 5% and Citi Costco Visa for restaurants at 3%. If traveling that month, I stay with Citi Custom Cash for restaurants first.
      For AMEX, I happen to have several of the entertainment subscriptions already and will be able to make full use of the $240 credit I also use Uber Eats (and almost always pick up the order) so that's another $200 credit. I valued the Walmart+ credit at $98 since I used to get that on a yearly plan. That gets the Platinum down to $157. I believe I will be able to make use of at least half of the $200 Airline credit, so that takes it down to $57 (or a $43 bonus if I can use all of it).
      The other credits I am not so sure about. If I decide to try CLEAR, that is a definite bonus. I just looked at the more obvious uses for my situation, which got me into the -$57 to +$43 range, which I am totally comfortable with, considering all of Platinum's other direct and indirect benefits.
      I still like my Venture X card too. Just one trip per year on it will pay for itself with the $300 credit and the annual effective $100 (minimum before working with partners) mileage credit.

      The Hilton Gold status given by the Amex Plat has come really in handy for me. I travel a lot for work and we have centers in a lot of smaller cities/ markets like Tulsa, Scranton, Pompano, etc.. I have gotten an upgrade 75% of the time at the time of check in. In our larger markets like ATL , Chicago and San Diego I have only been upgraded once. Since I get reimbursed for all business related travel expenses, this card pays for itself and I get to enjoy its perks when I go on personal travel 😀

    The Venture X would be a strong card for me if it just had better lounge access. I've flown abroad at least 20 times or more now, and have never been through any of the 3 airports they are opening in. I also absolutely love ANA as a transfer partner, because they have the best Japan and Australia deals usually. I will say though, I'll probably wind up getting a venture X simply since it pays itself off.

    In my opinion the Venture x should be in every person’s wallet (can imagine Samuel L Jackson repeating that) who travels at least once a year. Currently easily pays for itself and would be to go to card for Priority Pass access. It also would be my choice for people with families because they have less time to wait around for a centurion lounges.
    If you are looking at the platinum card for lounge access specifically I would only focus on if you are a Delta flyer or if you are based out of an airport that has a centurion lounge.
    Overall, if you are based out of ORD you are screwed.
