Both of Capital One’s Venture cards are great in that they offer flexible rewards without a lot of complication. The rewards and benefits are straightforward and easy to put to use each year.
However, ever since the Capital One Venture X was released in November 2021, a lot of people noted how similar it was to the older Venture Rewards card. The ‘X’ had a bigger annual fee of $395 and some extra benefits, but once you use them, the stripped down ‘X’ ended up looking quite similar to the regular Venture. That said, the smaller differences in the rewards earning rates and level of benefits (plus their access privileges) DO make a difference, so let’s compare them!
In general, I’d say that the Capital One Venture Rewards card is best for people who:
    - Want an effortless ‘catch all’ credit card for travel.
    - Will book flights / hotels / cars thru the Capital One Travel portal.
    - Want to earn rewards without managing benefits.
    - Have lounge access via a different card (or don’t care about it).
I’d then say that the Capital One Venture X card is best for people who:
    - Want a ‘catch all’ credit card for travel w/ extra benefits.
    - Will book flights / hotels / cars thru the Capital One Travel portal.
    - Want a higher point earning rate.
    - Want airport lounge access.
    - Want to share benefits with others as Authorized Users.
    - Capital One Lounge, Priority Pass, insurance protections, etc.
    - Want cell phone protection.
That said, you should probably AVOID both credit cards if you…
    - Don’t travel much (these are travel credit cards after all).
    - Want to earn cash back rewards (the redemption rates for cash back are really bad, plus you have annual fees you’ll need to deal with).
    - Aren’t willing to pay an annual fee (there are tons of great cash back credit cards without annual fees).
    - Are focused on earning elite status with hotel chains and/or rental car companies (usually hotels or rental car companies will not honor elite benefits or allow you to earn elite credits when booking through portals).
    - Prefer to book travel directly or outside of a bank portal (better customer service, plus the ability to earn status and have it recognized for hotels and rental cars. This does not apply to airline bookings as you can still earn elite status using portals).
The Capital One Venture X authorized user benefits are perhaps one of the biggest differentiators. Although we will not be covering them in detail in this overall comparison video, it could make for a good secondary video in the future.

    Hello Mark!
A week ago I was targeted for a 100k points after spending 10k in 6 months offer for the Venture card. Since this was an elevated offer I immediately applied.
Previously I planned to get the Venture X since it is a no brainer from a credit standpoint. Nonetheless, I already have priority pass as a authorized user in a CSR account (which I’m looking to eventually get off from but are in no rush). I’ll probably apply for the Venture X after 6 months and eventually downgrade the Venture card to a no AF card. At least I’ll get to use my two plaza premium lounges visits with the Venture card in the meantime.
    Great vid as always!

Hi Marcelle - Use the Capital One cards for the purchases where they give the highest reward rate. Those are the 2 cards to spend on. I got a venture x. Got locked on the first day for security. The wanted a utility bill , dl and an original ss card picture taken with my phone. I was traveling for work for a few months. I sent utility bill, password, military ID, dl and a picture of my ss card that I had a family member sent me. They told me they couldn't verify it and closed my account after charging me the 400 annual fee. The card was active for 30 minutes. I have 4 other capital one cards. The biggest scam I've ever seen a large company due. When I got home I sent them the ss card picture with my phone. The told me to reapply and repay the annual fee I paid earlier.

Very informative. Ways to meet the 4K expenses? C1 is visa and Plastiq is limited to pay things like a mortgage that can help you meet the minimum expenses. Any suggestions?

Last month c1 send me $100 hotel credit for my venture reward to use on their portal, expire OCt 2023. I was planning on canceling this card because of $95 af which it has no credits or annual miles, just 2 visit at c1 lounge.
I hope they send me that $100 hotel credit every year lol
    Otherwise i will cancel it

I applied for venture X and denied for some wierd reason, I already have chase freedom flex and saphhire preferred, had 750+ score, length of credit is 1 year 8 months. Reason was length of stay and too many credit cards in last year ( just 2)
Is there any reconsideration line for Capital one ? I dint read any online good things about reconsideration

I don’t see the point of the regular venture. Per the video it’s a travel card that’s great for ppl who want an effortless setup and use the portal. The thing is if they use the portal the VX is effortless. They will get the credit in a portal booking. I mean they can ignore the other card benefits if they want. If they don’t want to use the portal and want easy why not run a 2% card from Citi or Wells Fargo?

Totally get what you're saying 👍 I'd like to see the 2 cards have a greater difference.

Would it be better to book flights outside the portal then offset it after purchase via statement credit as you said
    vs
booking at the portal and earning 5x for flights?

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Год назад +2

With the Venture X, if you book outside the portal, you'll earn 2X. If you book within the portal, you'll earn 5X. You can then still offset the purchase later even after booking via the portal. Miles don't have to be redeemed during the booking process.

Miles to redeem apply to any flight company?

    • @MarkReese
      @MarkReese  Год назад +1

When redeeming them as a statement credit against a flight you charged to the card, yes, any airline ticket is valid.
When redeeming via transfer partners, not all airlines will be eligible, but there is a greater potential for higher value.

    Venture One = $95 AF
    Venture X = -$5 AF
most people will choose Venture X

    To start off with...
    Venture X s just a really cool name! 😎
I mean, just think how sexy you can say that... "Venture X!"
It might replace 007 as the name of the top MI6 agent 😎
    But don't abbreviate it.
VX is a deadly nerve gas 😱😱😱😂😂😂

To be honest .... unless you have a family the Venture Card will be fine.

    • @MarkReese

It's a good option 👍 Still depends how much you (individually) value lounge access if you don't have a family (e.g. business travelers, solo travelers). Same with benefits like rental car elite status, etc.
