I think AI is targeting white-collar jobs more that the trades. Vocational schools actually teach marketable skills.
Sure, that'll be true for the next couple years. But it won't stop there, and have you seen the latest version of the Atlas robot, shown off just a few days ago? Shocking how much it's movements look like something out of scifi, even more so than the previous version. Humanoid robotics is moving rapidly now, so at least certain trades may not be far off from such competition. Kinda wild to think about.. Some estimates suggest we could see 60% of the workforce out competed by AI and robots, by 2030 alone.. Our economy needs to change.
You can have all of the skills in the world but with the land and resources that does you no good.
Many white collar jobs are paid too much for doing too little. That’s why AI is gunning for those types of jobs.
I mean if you're a white collar worker making high 6 figures, and you're working from home because your job is 100% interfacing with a computer... Yeah, look out for AI.

Ignore the instinct to think it'll never do certain things, for I can assure you it will, and far sooner than you may expect. Don't believe those who say we don't need to prepare, as they're probably the ones who'll profit the most if we delay. It's not going to create anywhere near enough "new jobs" to reemploy all those it will displace! What new jobs could it create for everyone, that it couldn't also do itself? AI exists thanks to years of data and content, collected from all of us, that goes into training it to then out compete us. Demand your AI Dividend!
My favorite is the AI nurse "RN" the AI RN actually performed the job better with less mistakes and took direction better than human nurses.
My son is working in a factory job being paid 30.00 hrly. Only requirement is a 11th grade education (crazy)...
I went to college and I make $30 an hour driving a forklift all day lol. I definitely didn't end up where I thought I would in life.

I just wonder how long it'll take before people realize we need new economic standards. We need some way to ensure AI benefits everyone, since everyone's data helped contribute to training it, and it will almost certainly out compete them for an income under the current standards. Something like an AI Dividend could help, at least as a transitional policy as AI brings the prices down. Without something like it, a lot of the middle class is going to lose everything they've built..
@@NikoKun Shared positive outcomes are beneficial for everyone. It's unlikely that AI will bring any prices down, it will probably just keep them from going up as fast.
There are cities that offer free college to their high school graduates. Kalamazoo and Battle Creek two that I know of.

The men dumped out of the factories in the 1970s who took up the trades are now in their 70s. But even then, the "Xerox of the professor" higher schooling is easily taken over by AI. But problem solving and useful skills with hands can't be automated.

I was talking to a woman who has worked for a company for 2 years in medical billing. Next year AI will be taking her job. The people who own the company come across as caring for their employees. I call bs. They are making more money for themselves by having AI instead of a human.

I've been unemployed for 6 months.... I've been applying for jobs for 6 months and I've barely had any interviews and the interviews I did have had 20 other people being interviewed for the same position. We should have a U.B.I. of $1,200 a month for people making under $30k a year. Our government isn't doing anything to help us.
You're doing it wrong OR you're in a bad area. Look around for actual Help Wanted signs, physical ones. Not online BS. Ask a person, in person. Don't call or text or email. Walk up to a business, ask POLITELY to talk to a manager. Introduce yourself & say hi I am #, and you are? If no name tag on uniform that is... Be nice and say, "Do you 'insert name' have any job openings?"... Wait for answer(s). If negative. Ask follow up question, "Do you 'insert name' KNOW OF anyone who is currently hiring?" And again, wait for their answer. Any CAPABLE and HONEST human being should have a job, or job lead after 3 conversations. If NOT, move. Your in a bad area. 🎉 🔥

I completed a plumber's apprenticeship in the late 80's and couldn't afford to support myself to take the state exam and had I passed it I still would be able to support myself more likely than not. Sleeping is illegal for a reason.

Among the last of the Boomers - 20 years in the military and time working the trades - laughed hearing the bit about colleges/corporations courting engineers for our future chip-construction - in 1955 my Dad graduated from Montana as an Electrical Engineer... Stanford Research Institute (SRI) hired him and offered a Masters degree program as part of his work... 30 years working Department of Defense and other projects... he also got his doctorate. Was then "retired" early because SRI could hire 4 "kids" to work onward.
AI medical or psychiatric diagnosis with a quick review from a doctor. AI legal case review prior to accepting a client.

Anything that takes away the requirement of someone else helping you in performing a job falls under that category !

Well, a machine being able to do a job which used to take up a human being's time and effort is not necessarily a bad thing. It frees up the time to do other, more important things. The trick is to transition those people into other careers without affecting their lives too much.
If this can be done successfully, in the greater scheme of things AI being able to perform these jobs is not a bad thing. For example, we don't lament the fact that we no longer need sewage cart pushers, corpse collectors, water carriers, chimney sweeps, time callers etc. Sometimes progress is better than holding onto dated jobs just because they create something for people to do. They can always learn how to do something else. If AI took your job, chances are it's not something which takes years and years to learn anyway. Chances are it's a fairly simple job.

Woah sorry but im pretty sure our local school has a shop and a agriculture class unfortunately the schools name is mlre important than the school doing its job those things are to gain more money and make the high-school look good and only really pretend to be used for the students its became more of a shop museum. Kids domt know how to act so good place to die. Most use that equipment seen was from the staff they could have saved money and made us watch mike do it on tv

Automation has always targeted the "starter" jobs. And that's a problem. When you take away the starter jobs you take a way job training 101. I will say this the Boomer generation had a good work ethic but we did a poor job of teaching that to our children and grandchildren. IS THAT OK TOU YUBE ????????????????????????????????
AI taking over "blue collar" jobs isn't surprising. Workers at that level have been looked upon as replaceable units for over a century. The next level up, "white collar" has been necessary because they are the communication channel between "blue collar" and the "suits." Their job consists mainly of being "paper pushers." But with AI below them, they are just translating what the machines say to "human speak" which can be replaced by AI requiring no translation. They become useless overhead. Now, while there are some "good suits", most just want to see the "bottom line" on the reports, something AI can easily do. Then they issue their directives, call their wife or whatever, and spend the rest of the day at the golf course. Naturally, AI is more efficient at translating those directives into "AI speak" for the AI on the shop floor to implement. The only humans left are those at the top and "maintenance", waiting for an AI controlled unit to call for repair or refilling of base product to be loaded. And that last job has already been shown to be handlable by automated systems.

I watched many IT departments replace American workers with Indians who would work for less.
