I take 2 scoops of beef gelatin powder and boil in water with herbs, nutritional yeasts and little salt. Oh, i also add 1-2 tbsp ghee. This helps me with longer fasting periods. Yes, it breaks my fast but it does not give me horrible insulin spikes
I eat fresh bone broth from beef and soup from beef bones and beef meat every day since I went all carnivore 2 months ago. After 2 weeks wrinkles gone. After 4 weeks hair grows back in Alopecia areas and even in original color after I already was all white from decades of plant based diet. After 6 weeks my skin got elastic and firm, even though I lost 11 kg. Meanwhile also my joint pain is now getting better. 😊
Knox gelatin is a food-grade form of collagen that creates a gel when dissolved, primarily supporting joint and digestive health, but its larger protein structures are less readily absorbed than hydrolyzed collagen peptides, which are specifically broken down for improved bioavailability and absorption in the body.
Awesome breakdown!! I was wondering the difference between The Vital Proteins brand of Beef Gelatin & their Collagen Peptides products. Good to know they’re basically the same nutrients/benefits wise, aside from texture & bioavalability. Thanks doc :)!!
Hi Stephen. Thanks for this video. I'm a little confused with the different types of collagen as whenever I look online, I see that type 1 collagen (marine) is linked with skin, hair and nails, rather than type 3. Is this just a misconcetion? Thanks!
Hi Dr Stephen, Is there a difference between hydrolyzed gelatin powder and collegen peptides?? In other words, am I missing out on some vital nutrients by taking the former but not the second?
Im taking vital protiens beef gelatin powder to see if it can help heal an ankle injury I had . Is there something else out there you think is better for this??
I've been taking collagen peptides for 7 or 8 months for skin benefits. It's helped a lot. but, I seem to get a lot of itching. Does that make any sense? By the way I'll be 91 soon. Don't know if that makes a difference or not.
Itching after taking collagen peptides could potentially be a sign of an allergic reaction or sensitivity to one of the components in the supplement. As you age, your body's tolerance and response to certain substances may change. I recommend ordering the StephenCabral.com/Food-Test-1 to look at your current sensitivities. This includes a free consult!
This is a perfect example of why I get so annoyed that everyone preaches the evils of "processed" food. That's lazy and unscientific. Processed foods can be good, bad, or indifferent, depending on the food and the process.
I bought a collagen powder made from just egg shells. Strangely on the ingredients list it had zero protein. How is this? And what about collagen for vegans?
The absence of protein in your eggshell collagen powder is due to the way collagen peptides are measured and labeled. For vegans, focusing on nutrients that boost natural collagen production through vegan diets such as protein sources and specific supplements like Zinc, Cu, and C is a practical approach to supporting skin, joint, and overall health.
Are you taking Vitamin C ? Without it the body struggles to put the collagen back together in your body. Without vit C you'll just have a bunch of collagen in your body that the body can't fully utilise.
So I just started taking Collagen Peptides (I’ve had the Vital Proteins brand for quite some time) and I was SHOCKED to hear you say at the end how much is needed. I started taking it mainly for slight knee pain as of late and my chiropractor & massage therapist suggested it. If it also helps my skin, etc…added bonus as I am approaching 50 in a couple of year. So you mention at the most 2.5g. The serving size on this one I have is 20g!! I’ve only been taking one scoop, so just 10g. If I’m just using for my knees (although, this may be due to arthritis…would collagen even help with this?) is one scoop too much? Thinking I should lower this amount. Any suggestion or guidance would be greatly appreciated! Love listening to your daily podcasts. Thank you!!! ***sorry for the lengthy comment*** ;)
Just make sure it's not 20,000mg which is 2g converted. While collagen can help it will be even more important to address the underlying causes of inflammation. Otherwise you are essentially trying to out supplement something you are doing that is increasing it at the same time. The most common causes would be food sensitivities found on the StephenCabral.com/Food-Test-1 ⭐️
Isn't collagen just one amino acid short of a complete protein? That's what I read, and when i compared my plain goat protein powder to plain collagen powder, thats what I found too. I stopped buying collagen powder then and only use organic goat protein powder. Apparently goat protein is as or more absorbed by body as free range organic chicken eggs.
Collagen is not a complete protein, nor is it typically marketed this way. It is known for it's role in supporting hair, skin, nails, bone and joint health as a supplement.
@stephencabral what I wonder is why is it sold separately as an incomplete amino acid mixture? Bovine and goat Protein powder has all the same ingredients as the Collagen products, plus 1 or a few more.

It's remarkable that you saw such transformation so quickly. What age?
That is amazing! Thank you for sharing!
don't use the Long bones for broth, use joints (Ray Peat)
What brand of collagen do you recommend for hair, skin & nail?
I personally use the Advanced Collagen Support from Equi.Life ⭐️

Hi Dr Stephen,

Hydrolyzation is the process of getting collagen peptide.. So both are the same.

I recommend using the StephenCabral.com/Collagen-1 on top of the StephenCabral.com/DFP-1.

Thank you very much.
I mix gelatine with cacao milk curcuma moringa
Complete protein taken together with collagen also helps the bioavailability, I think 🤔
Thank you for the explanation. Finally, something that makes sense. I use both 💃
Glad it was helpful!

Nice knowledge
Thank you
What about multi collagen? How do the different mixes of collagen types play their role?
where I live there is pork gelatine in supermarkets with pieces of pork in it. Does that work or is chicken broth preferred?
Thank you
You're welcome!
My supplement says it contains hydrolysed collagen in tablet form. Is this the same as collagen peptides? Thanks

I tried marine collagen didn't work for skin and hair and nails.
I'm taking pork and beef gelatine now for a few months not sure if it's working 😢

Pork is very inflammatory, but bone broth is an excellent source of collagen if you are not supplementing.
