POVERTY IN GRAAFF-REINET

Poor people in Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape are waiting up to three months for emergency food parcels from the South African Social Security Agency, who says the normal turnaround time is between one and three days.

I lived in Graaff-Reinett for 14 years. My father served as a SAPS officer during my time there, and was well-known in the township. These problems started around 2010-2011, and there was absolutely nothing done by the ANC to remedy the situation. The people of Umazizakhe can't catch a break.

To think that, that land is rightfully Katie's (Khoi) and the AmaXhosa who use to roam the area before is deplorable that the settlers live in luxury whilst the natives are poor in their own homeland...

The government is screwing everyone up, not just the Coloureds. And the Xhosas have every right to live in this country. Why don't you say the same thing about white colonizers who are living better than the Coloureds? In every race, there are people living in poverty. Stop blaming Xhosas for everything.
