The main problem with dreamworks is that they haven't asked me to write Captain Underpants 2
Hey, they called it the FIRST epic movie. That HEAVILY implies they were gonna make more.
Yeah fair point
They have time to make a third trolls movie, but not captain underpants 2 or a dog man movie. I feel you. But I'm not mad about trolls 3. But I believe all of the good movies deserves a sequel
Who would bring as the next evil villain in the next captain underpants movie and then when we having a dog man movie and super dipper baby

Actually 2023 wasn't that bad. It was just decent.
2022: The best
Dreamworks is like a roller coaster. As the ride goes up, they make some iconic animation classics told on for decades and enjoyed by all, but as the ride goes down, they make some forgettable animated films that are set on fire by critics. The ride goes up and down and so on.
I love Dreamworks more than Disney tbh but my problem with them is that they decide the quality of their movies by the flip of a coin.
One time it's a masterpiece, one time it's bad, and goes on.
And the fact that there are massive layoff and new directors and writters and all don't make it better especially when its their tv branch and Peacock who animated Megamind 2.
What worries me now is that they are the ones that will make The Bad Guys 2 and Shrek 5 and i'm worried about their fate.
Also last note.
I'm going to be honest in that front, peoples REALLY should STOP calling a studio god or golden age everytime they are making a hit movie or calling them bad and screaming about downfall when they make a miss movie, it's seriously annoying and well all know DW is the perfect example of Hit or Miss.
That's not because they made 1 or 2 good movies that the following ones will be absolute masterpieces, and that's not because they made 1 or 2 bad movies that all the following ones will be bad.
I agree. I enjoyed Kung Fu Panda 4 a lot. For me it was more than decent or okayish. It was very good.
I do agree that the moment The Last Wish, came people made videos about we have again returned to the golden era of DreamWorks and the moment they made movies of lesser quality, these people turn their backs to it. They now say that the Last Wish was just an accidental masterpiece. "There are no Accidents."
I know I already said this yesterday but I'm going to say it again. I blame Universal for Dreamworks acting like this, Cause Universal owns Dreamworks so this means Universal's milking Dreamworks. This reminds me of how people are saying it's Nickelodeon's own fault they're failing but Paramount literaly own Nickelodeon so you know what that means? Paramount's also milking Nickelodeon but nobody thinks that. Everybody's blaming Nickelodeon for thier own downfall but I blame Paramount. Anybody else kinda agree with me?
Remember Danny Phantom and Avatar: The Last Airbender?
@@climbingamountain86Yes.
@@sayathedog8171 The good era of Nickelodeon...
I feel like Dreamworks is in a worse position then Pixar. At least Pixar’s reputation is slowly recovering after Elemental, but Dreamworks seems to be struggling a lot, with all of the layoffs, announcements of no longer doing animating movies in house, and these mediocre products, this is just a scary future for them.
Yeah, the future doesn't look too bright for DreamWorks right now.
Yes exacly in fact if we watch and have information of what happens inside the studio and the employees of Dreamworks Dreamworks have a worst situation then Pixar they fired more employees then Pixar they prefer let other studios country make the animation job then let they’re own employees they own studios for that job in prétexte that this is less expensive and worst Jeffrey Katzemberge say he want to use A.I. for the animation job
Pixar has also been dealing with layoffs too but nowhere near the mess DreamWorks is dealing with right now.
It’s probably because of the writers strike.
Yeah I hate how in summer of 2023 people were shitting on Pixar because they didn’t relase a complete masterpiece like spider verse and were still praising dreams works for last wish even though they had released the stupid kraken movie
Honestly after when people said Dreamworks was better than Disney really got on my nerves because every time I heard someone say that it kind’ve got me a little bit upset. I also have to agree with you that people need to understand that Dreamworks can’t always make good movies all the time because all studios including Disney and Ilumination has its flops here and there sometimes (Take Strange World and Lightyear for example).
Dreamworks Problem isnt inconsistency, it really has more of a Director/writer Problem. the producer of Puss n boots 2 is Joel Crawford, Shrek and shrek 2 was Andrew Adamson, and all of the BAD, like REALLY BAD Dreamworks movies was Mike Mitchele, hes the THORN of the whole team. he F up KFP4, He introduced us Trolls, and he directed shrek 4 which no wonder why that movie felt "off" compared to the other 3.
and Surprisingly Tom Mcgrath directed Madagascar and Megamind but also Boss baby, which is weird, he was probably high or something when doing Boss baby
All movie problems are director problems (and higher up problems).
Honestly I feel like Megamind 2 is one of DreamWorks worst flims up there with the Boss Baby flims, Shrek the Third and Shark Tale
Well to be honest, megamind 2 is by Peacock, not DreamWorks.
universal is treating dreamworks like illumination w/ its budget and layoffs and outsourcing??? like c'mon I know you have a favorite child but every studio is different 😫 but yeah i agree, dreamworks has always been a mixed bag, its experimental by nature...
DreamWorks has the worst anniversaries FR 😭🙏 (not including 2004)
I feel like people got there hopes up to much with puss in boots because DreamWorks has been always inconsistent
I feel like their inconsistency now has gotten to the main stream which was the biggest problem of this discussion now
I'm just glad Megamind vs the Doom Syndicate came out because now when people say Ruby Gillman is the worst thing Dreamworks made, all I have to do is show them the Doom Syndicate and they immediately take back what they said. :>
Puss in Boots 2: Fantastic!
Kung Fu Panda 4: Should have ended at 3.
Ruby Gillman: Bring your list of clichés you've seen a thousand times before. I only made it 10 minutes into the movie before stopping.
Trolls 3: I didn't watch the second one. I didn't even know there was a third movie until recently. There really should have been just one movie out of this and done.
Megamind 2: Are we back in the year 2003 or something when cheep sequels were a thing because no one had anything better to do?
Ruby Gillman feels like a whole TV series mashed together into a single movie, like the just took the plot relevant scenes and merged them together. Trolls only exists because its easy and safe money for Dreamworks
I was never big on this whole “DreamWorks Renaissance” thing after The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots 2. Yes those two were good movies IMO, but that was never going to make me think every movie after that was going to be good. We shouldn’t expect a renaissance like it’s owed to us.
When it comes to Ruby Gillman, I wasn’t expecting it to be good just because DreamWorks’ previous 2 films were good, I was expecting it to be good just because the trailer hooked me and I’ve always liked DreamWorks as a studio. And boy was I right IMO. I love Ruby Gillman SO MUCH (even more so than the 2 films before it) that I’ve made several Ruby Gillman videos on my channel, and I REALLY want it to become a franchise. I cannot express how much I love that movie and I detest the haters of it.
I haven’t seen Trolls 3 or Megamind 2, but I thought KFP4 was pretty good. Sure it’s not as good as the first film, and it suffers from the “we couldn’t afford to bring back these actors” excuse for some characters, but I thought it was decent and lives up to the previous 2 sequels.
I’m just tired of this complaining about DreamWorks’ quality like it’s a new problem. I don’t need them to make consistent films, especially when they’re from unrelated franchises, I just need them to make entertaining films. And even then, I’ll mostly check out the films that interest me. Just like Ruby Gillman, The Wild Robot is a new property that I plan to see because the trailer has me hooked, regardless of the studio’s reputation.
For all the company’s flaws, I still prefer DreamWorks over Disney and I love it when they give the middle finger to the house of mouse. Sorry for this comment being really long, I just have a lot to say about this “renaissance” mentality.
Thanks you to still show some love to Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken ❤
Please make a video of Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken of his father brother and his uncle please
Yeah, it takes more than 2 good movies to become a "renaissance."
You're right
Yes exactly each movie is it's own thing and shouldn't be expected to out do the last its like demanding the younger child to out shine there older sibling and then tearing them a new one when they don't even if what the did was pretty good yes last wish. Was amazing but that doesn't mean Ruby has to be better they are two different stories in every sense of the word only thing they have in com this dream works made them and because off that haters demand that a cute movie about a adorkable sea monster girl be more ground braking them a movie about an ego Maniac learning that he needs others, to Cherish his one life, and to not run from death, they're on opposite sides of the Entertainment spectrum last wish deep and meaning ruby silly and fun both are good not every thing has fit the same mold of what's good so thanks for speaking truth about dream works their movies are slot of fun and mean slot to the fans nice hearing them get the love they Deserve
I’m more worried about when the wild robot comes and what happens after because DreamWorks is letting go 50% of employees that means they’re gonna outsource more of their movies instead of making them in house. Don’t think we’ll get a DreamWorks movie that feels like DreamWorks dreamworks movie
DreamWorks is facing the same problem as Disney is starting out with mid movies. I want movies that are really good like the Prince of Egypt the lion King Ferngully Anastasia by don Bluth. I saw Ruby Gilman teenage Kraken and I thought it was OK but what about a lot better if Chelsea was just a good guy and her and Ruby were just friends or girlfriends or whateverlike Nimona! DreamWorks rise of the guardians was pretty good but it also flopped at the box office back in 2012!
Exacly people need to understand about the fact that is not because they make Puss and Boots 2 once that mean that they not made bad or mid Movies like Disney after that
Dreamworks has always been kinda like this. For every awesome non Disney animated movie they make. They make or produce something so below average/bad. That it makes all the effort they put into making that awesome movie look pointless. They’re inconsistent as a company. However they are consistent with their inconsistencies. Plus they at least take more chances with something completely different. So that their projects don’t meld into a mush of predictable results. Honestly even when Dreamworks is down. I know they’ll eventually get back up and make something interesting again. If anyone wanted specific examples. Prince of Egypt was an exceptional movie. However most of the later 2D animated movies were not up to the same standard. Then after a while they gave us Shrek. Along with a few other movies like that movie. Then eventually they made something like Kung Fu Panda and tried their best to make similar movies. However they got into a rut. Eventually they made The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots the Last Wish. We’ll see Dreamworks rise again to the challenge one day.
I guess Disney is back in town then since dream works just left out of town then 😂😂😂
FINALLY people who say Dreamworks have actully problems

This is normal for DreamWorks though. They released Shrek 2 and Shark Tale in the same year for crying out loud lol
And Captain Underpants and Boss Baby.
You can’t expect people not to have high expectations after they see what DreamWorks is capable of. At this point, DreamWorks only has itself to blame.
Nevermind VS The Fodder Syndicate
That’s what happens when DreamWorks fans push their ego too far like I told y’all before it was only a matter of time until something went wrong Was I wrong? NO!
I'm so tired of hearing a lot of people complain about films after Puss in Boots 2, it's not the first time, and I bet they'll complain about the next ones after The Wild Robot
It’s pretty sad that just like Illumination, Dreamworks has realized they don’t need to try to make a profit. Kung fu panda 4 is a prime example of that
Exactly that’s kinda why I want Disney and Pixar to whoop them at the box office to humble them
There will always be light in the end for DreamWorks. Inconsistent or not.
I really hate how much Ruby Gillman gets bashed. I think it wouldn’t have been nearly as hated if it didn’t come out after Last Wish and people didn’t get their expectations too high. I think Universal might be part of the reason for DreamWorks short comings because Ruby, Trolls 3, and surprisingly Kung fu Panda 4 have had really bad marketing.

@@AmicusAdastraI don’t remember any stupid dreamworks 🤢🤮 Disney 😎🤑 memes in the 2010s, what are you talking about.
Again, one movie doesn't make it to a new era. Only because of puss in boots 2 it doesn't mean that DreamWorks will get a renaissance. It must be hit to hit. Like the Disney renaissance. It was revolutionary, it saved the studio, it was memorable it was everything and it had bangers like the little mermaid, beauty and the beats Aladdin, the lion king wich came back to back if we ignore the rescuers down under . And even underrated gems like the hunchback of Notre dame. Next time, if we the wild robot is good, it doesn't mean that it will get an renaissance, it happened with puss in boots the last wish and it happened with Encanto.
Hopefully soon Dreamworks will have another renaissance.
Kung Fu Panda 4 was great but Megamind 2 and Megamind Rules is the worst . Maybe next year will better about The Wild Robot & Dog Man
I still don't get why people hate Kai. His evil motive was explain early in the movie of Kung Fu Panda 3.
I think what ruins dreamworks is universal, because universal is going to become the next Disney in the future
The next thing they’ll do is shutdown DreamWorks because it already looks like Illumination is their favorite child. So they’ll end up suffering the same fate as Blue Sky.

*DreamWorks Animation throughout the years*
1991-1994/early 90s (yes, I’m counting films by DreamWorks Animation’s predecessors): Good (the only film they made that year in theaters - VHS - Super Nintendo where it would make it way bigger than it did in theaters was An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, where I ironically and unironically think it all began as “the true first DreamWorks movie” as my meme goes, and while we had a lot of fun with it because of its Looney Tunes-esque animation, inspiration for Flushed Away during the sewer scene, settings, Tanya’s design, the characters in general and potential for meme status for this underrated-ish gem, what holds it back from being one of the all-time best movies even though I used to think of it that way as a kid would have to be the racial stereotyping of Indigenous Americans which thank god The Treasure of Manhattan Island fixed!) ✅ 1
1993-1994 (the years Amblimation, later revived as DreamWorks Animation, gave us We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story during their theatrical - home video releases): Mixed (I enjoy it for its batshit insanity even if it may be far from perfect in terms of its writing) ✅ 2
1995-1996: Great (they were the years Amblimation gave us Balto) ✅ 3
1998: Mixed (The Prince of Egypt was great and I’d recommend everyone love or at least respect it, but Antz is… that ant movie with Woody Allen in it who is now infamous for marrying his daughter Mia Farrow) ❌ 1
2000: Peak (they gave us The Road to El Dorado, Chicken Run and Joseph: King of Dreams thus making 2K a strong year for DreamWorks in quantity and quality… oh yeah, that’s also when DreamWorks in the live-action department also gave us Gladiator with Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix!) ✅4
2001 (the year they gave us Shrek): Where a new millennium started with a bang! ✅ 5
2002 (the year they gave us Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron… ): The real Spirit Untamed! 😊 ✅ 6
2003: Pretty good (it’s great to know that Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas holds up even after all these years!) ✅ 7
2004: An infamous definition of hit-or-miss (we all love Shrek 2 while ironically enjoying Shark Tale for its many, many flaws) ❌ 2
2005: Peak ✅ 8
2006: Decent (I see mixed qualities in Over the Hedge despite being the more popular one, but Flushed Away, on the other hand, I can say with confidence holds up as a masterpiece) ✅ 9
2007: Diaappointing (power to those that like what DreamWorks gave us back then) ❌ 3
2008: Peak (the year they gave us the original Kung Fu Panda and another Madagascar movie) ✅ 10
2009 (the year they gave us Monsters vs. Aliens): Great ✅ 11
2010: 2000 all over again (a fresh start to a new-at-that-time decade with the original How to Train Your Dragon, Shrek Forever After and, of course, Megamind) ✅ 12
2011: Peak (it’s the year where we got one of the absolute best animated sequels… and a predecessor to another one of them) ✅ 13
2012: Great (the year they gave us another Madagascar film and Rise of the Guardians) ✅ 14
2013: Not a fan, sorry (I guess I could rewatch The Croods considering how many people loved it like an underrated gem for years, I thought it was kinda meh, and rewatching Turbo on Netflix, yeah, I guess you could say it’s nostalgic of the mid-2010s, but otherwise, meh) ❌ 4
2014: Decent (I might end up being mixed towards Mr. Peabody and Sherman by highlighting its adventurousness but also finding it unintentionally bitter at times, but with Dragon 2 and Penguins of Madagascar and shows like The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show and Turbo Fast, I overall enjoy it) ✅ 15
2015: Meh (they year they gave us Home and VeggieTales that feels more like a shell of its former self, mainly because of how the designs contrast to the original/The VeggieTales Show which is or was just a funny, well-animated and even healthy show because of the characters being good-hearted vegetables that teach us to be strong. 😊) ❌ 5
2016: Mixed (I mean, I like Kung Fu Panda 3 although it’s a step-down from its predecessors, but as for Trolls, it had great potential, but while I don’t want to ruin things for people who like the Trolls franchise, I’m not a fan because of the toxic positivity of these movies that made Branch a butt-monkey) ❌ 6
2017: Mixed (the year they gave us The Boss Baby… but then, they gave us Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie which is a *MASSIVE* step up and we really need one or two more sequels considering its title) ❌ 7
2018: The year of TV shows (and while The Boss Baby got a show, on the bright side, so did Captain Underpants and Trolls with The Beat Goes On)
2019: Meh (you can say what you want about the movies themselves, but there’s no denying how beautiful their visuals are! I might revisit How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, but while a lot of people hate this movie and I understand where they’re coming from, I might end up enjoying it and even understanding why Hiccup and Toothless had to part ways.)
2020: Meh (although, The Mighty Ones does look pretty dope, ngl)
2021: Bleh (not only did they give us Spirit Untamed, a Boss Baby sequel and a disappointing ending to a once-great franchise like Trollhunters, they also completely ruined How to Train Your Dragon by making it overstay its welcome with Dragons: The 9 Realms!!!!!)
2022: Peak (not only do we have The Bad Guys and Puss in Boots 2, we also have Pinecone & Pony)
2023: Disappointing (I mean, I guess with its psychedelically high productions values, I can enjoy Trolls Band Together despite not being objectively good because of Branch’s brothers’ mean spirit towards him which has thankfully faded, and Dew Drop Diaries seems interesting, but the main reason why 2023 is infamous for being a major step-down from 2022 is because of Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken and the fact that it has a prejudice towards mermaids and didn’t even let the boys fight with the girls in a battle of krakens vs one mermaid)
2024: So far, no so good (The Wild Robot looks anticipating and Orion and the Dark, despite its flaws, is fun, but then there’s Megamind 2 and Kung Fu Panda 4 which we know is better to some extents, but let me hope Kung Fu Panda 5, without a pun intended, has the Furious Five as the main characters that way The Dragon Warrior could go from zoo to Zhen to Tigress who deserves it a lot more)
*Yeah, you guys are right, DreamWorks really is a mixed/inconsistent animation studio nowadays (and even back then when they were a lot more consistently magical, they had a dud every now and then), but in the film department, with the exception of 2022 and Captain Underpants, they make constant misses.*

0:42 "Not great, not terrible." - Chernobyl
kung fu panda 4 was suprisingly good am i the first to say so
No i enjoy it too not the best out of the franchise but definitely enjoyable and Jack blacks hit me baby one more time is 👌🏾✨✨
I think Kung Fu Panda 4 was great but it did have problems
My opinion :
Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken - Great/Personal favorite and underrated.
Trolls 3 - Haven't seen it and not planning on seeing it.
Orion and the Dark - Good with a weird 3rd act.
"Megamind 2" - I like to think that Dreamworks didn't actually make this.
Kung fu panda 4 - Good with the weakest villain (in terms of writing).
The wild robot - last hope
orion and the dark actually has a creepy artstyle tho.
Megamind 2 ruined it
Tbh I really hate the amount of negativity ruby gillman gets, ruby gillman is not a bad movie and it didn't deserve to flop.
It wasn't a great movie either but I feel like lots of people hate it because it came off of the back of the Last wish.
I'm hoping dreamworks will bring back 2d animation, because i want to see more christian movies and dreamworks made 2 christian movies like the prince of egypt and joseph king of dreams and i want to see more christian movies like i want to see a movie about adam and eve, a movie about noah and i also want to see a movie about Story of the Prodigal Son, i really hope dreamworks will make more christian films because we havent had one since joseph king of dreams
Well, i actually quite enjoyed "Ruby Gillman" but sure, DreamWorks has derailed in quality over the years
Plus in Kung Fu Panda 4 they use A.I. for the transformation animation of the Chameleon so again why people say Dreamworks is better than Disney now if we don’t talk about Puss and Boots 2
Disney are mid, dream works are terrible right now
No! Video Brinquedo is actually terrible
They’re making good and less recognizable ones as they go. But their pace is WAAAAAY better than Disney’s. Teenage Keaken was kinda mid, Trolls 3 was actually better than I expected, I haven’t seen Orion yet, KFP4 was a good and fun movie but was lacking, and Wild Robot is definitely gonna be a masterpiece. DreamWorks has its ups and downs but still can bring us joy more than Disney has in the past few years. At least they don’t pull the same shit as Disney. Until they decided to make a live action HTTYD.🤦🏾♂️
Hot take: turbo is overhated, in not saying it’s amazing but it’s good and better than people give it credit for
I like Dreamswork but the fandom is just too much. I cannot stand toxic and obsessive fans. They think Dreamswork is a perfect company despite they can have bad/mediocre movie just like Disney. I really hope Robot Movie work and save the company.
Exacly people need to understand about the fact that is not because they make Puss and Boots 2 once that mean that they not made bad or mid Movies like Disney after that
yeah, a lot of them do suffer from a severe disney hate boner
1st
Honestly the roller coaster Dreamworks is being right now, at least they're still doing better than Disney
They're both doing bad. This rivalry between studios have to stop. They're all not perfect. Not at all!
@@Simbala-bq5vy no, only Disney is doing badly as all their recent projects have been WOKE and political
@@Andrew53670 Blablba. Still both are bad. So are DreamWorks sometimes but nope people never discuss it.
No there not
Sadly it didn't age well lmao
Really chillychivy watch wish again that movie have no positive reviews that movie worth than any Disney movies this movie have no hart on passions or even good storytelling everything suck protagonis, villain, side carator or even talking animal carator please don't support wish please
He gave it a 7/10 why should he hate it? It's his opinion. It's a fricking movie god damnit. 🤦♂️
Boss baby ain't that bad
At least they are better than Disney
Doesn’t look like it anymore
2024 is actually the bad luck year tbh
I boycott disney again.
Frrrrrrrrrrr
Yaaaas same!!! I’m ready to Boycott
Man peoples should give more love to Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken
Thankful more people are giving it more love.
It might be getting a sequel
@@justinperry2520 not after the massive box office bomb it was lmao. It'll be forgotten forever by the studio
In recent years Ive come see dreamworks constant take that’s to Disney as petty and hypocritical for example all their digs at Disneyland in shrek 1 they did tenfold in first shrek ride then their’s the whole ruby Gilman villain Ariel thing which felt kinda like they changed the plot because of the little mermaid remake(if the film was being worked on for years it just seems to convenient for the villain to be mermaid on a remake that had only been announced within the year) and how does dreamworks respond to something that has been widely criticized for being a supposed diversity hire they try validate racism I feel like the writers just tried to think of the biggest reverse of what Disney was doing and didn’t think to run it by anyone then there was the message of if you’re bee keeper you’re being abusive to bees message in the bee movie that a lot of people seemed to ignore because that movie was just too weird to begin with and not mention they are making a live action how to train your dragon movie kinda weird that these guys were making fun of Disney for doing exactly
Don’t even get me started on Universal Katzenberg decided he wanted to Walt Disney and leave a bigger media company only to join with the bigger media company that Walt separated from. Also Universal and dreamworks kinda have this “indie complex” in which they treat themselves as small budgets studios trying to survive against Disney even though they are just as big and corporate and will also resort to some pretty under handed methods to get what they deem successful Universal even came before Disney. How I see it Universal wears the mask of some sort of resistance fighter but behind is a rich businessman throwing a tantrum because they lost their monopoly on the entertainment industry. Sorry I just needed to get that off my chest
Chillychivy please don't insult trolls or boss baby please they are not bad movie
