In the Atlanta suburbs since 2014. Will be selling our house and moving back west in 24 or 25…my husband is from Los Angeles and we’ve visited the Vegas Valley numerous times. I lived in ATL for 20 years. Originally from L.A., CA. I moved to Vegas in '22 and Henderson in May '24. By pass Vegas, unless you want to smell hard drugs in your Apt. Henderson is the way to go.

I have been in Vegas for 10 plus years, but Henderson for 5 years AND VERY TRUE, the views of the strip from here, if you are lucky. We just have the best location, 15, straight to Cali, right near freeway and strip depending on location. Nice luxury hotel, plus several others.

Hey yall just stumbled upon your video. My family and I currently live in Chicago we’re thinking about moving to Henderson in another year right before my son starts high school. Do your children have other black students in their classes? I know you said there’s 6% blacks that make up the population but wondering what the student population looks like.
Thanks so much for your question. The schools that my children attend and attended (one graduated) were predominantly white with a mixed ethnic population (meaning mostly white but they are also Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, Indians, etc.). I would say the 6% at least from my kids schools is pretty accurate. There are black children that go to the schools and they both had and have black friends at their schools. They are/were also both part of the black student organizations in their schools. Coming from Cincinnati and the school district they came from. It was a bit of a culture shock but they have been thriving. And I also don’t mind coming up to the school for ANY reason. 😇 ~Nicci
You don’t hear about snakes more than you hear about scorpions. We also have coyotes, displaced by new construction. I wouldn’t say it’s worse than any other city dealing with wildlife. For instance, in Cincinnati, we had wolves, mice and snakes that were displaced by new construction. None of it has prevented us from enjoying the outdoors. The weather right now is perfect!! HI! Great question. The cost of living in Nevada (today) is about 11% higher than the national average. I share it that way because it's relative depending on the city from which you're relocating. We've noticed that privately owned rentals that we have access to on the MLS (multiple listing service) in Vegas are asking for higher credit scores 625+, no evictions, no felonies, and income that is 3x the rent you want to pay. If you find that you don't meet 1 or more of these requirements, you might want to try apartment complexes as they could more likely work with you in exchange for a higher deposit. Lived in Henderson for 5 months to get a feel of the city, loved it and plan on moving back to Henderson in the near future. Green Valley area is one of the best areas to live.

I’m looking at the same places for relocation in less than 3 years. What have you found out about all 3? I’m finding it very hard to find out things about Phoenix and black culture.
From our personal experience we love Green Valley. It gives a suburban feel. It’s a great location to raise a family. There are tons of places to shop. There are just as many restaurants. It’s also very close to the highway so you are only about 10 minutes from the airport (for reference).

Charter/ private doesn’t equal better. In fact it could be less regulated. Charter still receives Block Grants from the government where as Private is funded by individuals and donors. It’s not the teachers who are bad. Many times it’s the students acting disrespectful to teachers and interrupting class no matter where it is. Parents are not parenting or just lack the skills- then send their I’ll manager Ed children to school who disrupt others and act violent. It’s heartbreaking. Doesn’t matter where you are. Wealth and having Class are not synonymous. You can have class and little money.

We don’t have a realtor yet but are serious about purchasing around west Horizon Ridge area, we have 4 In the family, my husband is black, the other family members are white, where does that place us. A little confusing, we don’t run into whether someone is black or white issues at all in Henderson but enjoyed your video.
Thanks for the feedback! The Horizon Ridge area is a great area for families. Close to parks, shopping, nice schools, yet still close enough to the highway where you can access everything.
I'm moving to Henderson because I hear it's quiet and safe. I couldn't give one care about how many of what race lives where, so long as I'm around good people, a community strong culture, and the neighborhood looks nice (i.e. people respect their surroundings and neighbors, etc). One point of contention. I do not believe "Black is not a color, it's a culture". Black people exist all over the world and practice in innumerable cultures. For instance, I detest the phrase "African American" because you can have a man from Nigeria who is more likely to act completely different than a "Black" person from, say Oakland California. And Black people from different parts of the US have either completely different cultures or subsets of Black American cultures. For instance, Black people in New York City might get treated like aliens in Atlanta Georgia. Or a Black person from Egypt, England, or Syria visiting any other Black neighborhood in the US. "Being Black" isn't an ideology, a culture, or some kind of dogmatic way of living. Sure, there are a lot of commonalities among a greater culture that's shared among a type of people (i.e. "race"). Such as Hispanic or Latino people may have an overall shared culture, but Mexicans differ from Hondurans, Spaniards, or Italians. Plus, people who live in the US are not called "Brown" people or say "Brown is a culture". I think a lot of people have turned "being Black" into a fetish and want it to exist in only a certain way, so that they can lay claim to it, as if it's some kind of birthright, which seems to be a little flawed to say the least. And this is coming from someone who absolutely loves Black American culture. I love the people, the food, and the traditions. I hope that when I move to Henderson, I'll make a lot of Black friends and I hope y'all include me in some gatherings/outings, etc, just as I would to you all. Peace and love.

There is too much emphasis on belonging to this or that cultural group when, as Americans, we should be open-minded about living and working next to each other without regard to ethnic classification. This was the attitude in the CA suburb where I grew up in the 80's&90's and it was a great time/place to exist.

Haha. I love it. Same, my family thinks Lake Mead is creepy, because they are used to MKE grass. Yes, we do have black people, but far and few. Maybe in the next few years, that will change as milennials are making families and becoming homeowners. It grows on you, so don´t fret. There is soooo much peace, especially in Green Valley, Whitney Ranch, Mac Donald ranch, Henderson, etc.
You’re right, Boulder City is beautiful. It gives small town vibes with great outdoor activities right in your backyard! I love the shopping, restaurants and parks. And it’s only about 30-40 mins from the heart Vegas. We need to talk about it more. ~Nicci

I would say there is a "central area". "WE" are everywhere but very spaced out. The fact is, Henderson is only made up of 6% black people (census from 2020). So I wouldn't place your bets on it. So the next best thing is to find what location best works for you. For some its proximity to a certain school. Others is proximity to work or the airport or to have their home in close proximity to shopping. Then, you can always find your tribe at Black Henderson events. We have happy hours at the Penalty Box the 1st Thursday of every month. November's is coming up next week!! Hope this helps!

Can't wait till media and agenda of race is never brought up because most people don't care about race as long as we work to a successful community and country. Just five to a place u like first a quality of life and talk and enjoy all races, that's what makes a neighborhood beautiful

I also think that people who comment negatively on this video either A. haven’t watched it in its entirety or B. do not understand or care to understand about Black Culture. Anyone who asks a question like that apparently they are not from the Vegas area, yes black people live in Henderson I remember when Henderson used to be a dump and that was because there was a plant that was located in the area and it would give off these fumes and it was so strong I remember those days, that was a while back yes black people live in Henderson.. it is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the United States.

I have been in Vegas for 10 plus years, but Henderson for 5 years AND VERY TRUE, the views of the strip from here, if you are lucky. We just have the best location, 15, straight to Cali, right near freeway and strip depending on location. Nice luxury hotel, plus several others.
Henderson is gorgeous. I lived in Henderson - McDonald Ranch on Eastern. Loved it there!

Good evening, I had been contemplating a move to Henderson should things align for me this year in the areas needed, it is one of the cities I looked into among others in the Las Vegas Valley. I have family that also lives in the Las Vegas Valley but some also live in Henderson, which is one of the towns I was in during my visit this past summer in Vegas.

Hey yall just stumbled upon your video. My family and I currently live in Chicago we’re thinking about moving to Henderson in another year right before my son starts high school. Do your children have other black students in their classes? I know you said there’s 6% blacks that make up the population but wondering what the student population looks like.
Thanks so much for your question. The schools that my children attend and attended (one graduated) were predominantly white with a mixed ethnic population (meaning mostly white but they are also Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, Indians, etc.). I would say the 6% at least from my kids schools is pretty accurate. There are black children that go to the schools and they both had and have black friends at their schools. They are/were also both part of the black student organizations in their schools. Coming from Cincinnati and the school district they came from. It was a bit of a culture shock but they have been thriving. And I also don’t mind coming up to the school for ANY reason. 😇 ~Nicci

Hello Guys, how is the wildlife in Henderson? Are snakes bad in the area?
You don’t hear about snakes more than you hear about scorpions. We also have coyotes, displaced by new construction. I wouldn’t say it’s worse than any other city dealing with wildlife. For instance, in Cincinnati, we had wolves, mice and snakes that were displaced by new construction. None of it has prevented us from enjoying the outdoors. The weather right now is perfect!! We've noticed that privately owned rentals that we have access to on the MLS (multiple listing service) in Vegas are asking for higher credit scores 625+, no evictions, no felonies, and income that is 3x the rent you want to pay. If you find that you don't meet 1 or more of these requirements, you might want to try apartment complexes as they could more likely work with you in exchange for a higher deposit. Start by googling the zip codes you're interested in. Hope this helps!

From our personal experience we love Green Valley. It gives a suburban feel. It’s a great location to raise a family. There are tons of places to shop. There are just as many restaurants. It’s also very close to the highway so you are only about 10 minutes from the airport (for reference).

Charter/ private doesn’t equal better. In fact it could be less regulated. Charter still receives Block Grants from the government where as Private is funded by individuals and donors. It’s not the teachers who are bad. Many times it’s the students acting disrespectful to teachers and interrupting class no matter where it is. Parents are not parenting or just lack the skills- then send their I’ll manager Ed children to school who disrupt others and act violent. It’s heartbreaking. Doesn’t matter where you are. Wealth and having Class are not synonymous. You can have class and little money.

We don’t have a realtor yet but are serious about purchasing around west Horizon Ridge area, we have 4 In the family, my husband is black, the other family members are white, where does that place us. A little confusing, we don’t run into whether someone is black or white issues at all in Henderson but enjoyed your video.
Thanks for the feedback! The Horizon Ridge area is a great area for families. Close to parks, shopping, nice schools, yet still close enough to the highway where you can access everything.
I'm moving to Henderson because I hear it's quiet and safe. I couldn't give one care about how many of what race lives where, so long as I'm around good people, a community strong culture, and the neighborhood looks nice (i.e. people respect their surroundings and neighbors, etc).
One point of contention. I do not believe "Black is not a color, it's a culture". Black people exist all over the world and practice in innumerable cultures. For instance, I detest the phrase "African American" because you can have a man from Nigeria who is more likely to act completely different than a "Black" person from, say Oakland California. And Black people from different parts of the US have either completely different cultures or subsets of Black American cultures. For instance, Black people in New York City might get treated like aliens in Atlanta Georgia. Or a Black person from Egypt, England, or Syria visiting any other Black neighborhood in the US.
"Being Black" isn't an ideology, a culture, or some kind of dogmatic way of living. Sure, there are a lot of commonalities among a greater culture that's shared among a type of people (i.e. "race"). Such as Hispanic or Latino people may have an overall shared culture, but Mexicans differ from Hondurans, Spaniards, or Italians. Plus, people who live in the US are not called "Brown" people or say "Brown is a culture".
I think a lot of people have turned "being Black" into a fetish and want it to exist in only a certain way, so that they can lay claim to it, as if it's some kind of birthright, which seems to be a little flawed to say the least.
And this is coming from someone who absolutely loves Black American culture. I love the people, the food, and the traditions. I hope that when I move to Henderson, I'll make a lot of Black friends and I hope y'all include me in some gatherings/outings, etc, just as I would to you all.

There is too much emphasis on belonging to this or that cultural group when, as Americans, we should be open-minded about living and working next to each other without regard to ethnic classification. This was the attitude in the CA suburb where I grew up in the 80's&90's and it was a great time/place to exist.

Haha. I love it. Same, my family thinks Lake Mead is creepy, because they are used to MKE grass. Yes, we do have black people, but far and few. Maybe in the next few years, that will change as milennials are making families and becoming homeowners. It grows on you, so don´t fret. There is soooo much peace, especially in Green Valley, Whitney Ranch, Mac Donald ranch, Henderson, etc.

Would you say that there is a central area, because we have lived in Henderson for about 4 years and now looking to purchase a home and it would be nice to have Black Neighbors :)
I would say there is a "central area". "WE" are everywhere but very spaced out. The fact is, Henderson is only made up of 6% black people (census from 2020). So I wouldn't place your bets on it. So the next best thing is to find what location best works for you. For some its proximity to a certain school. Others is proximity to work or the airport or to have their home in close proximity to shopping. Then, you can always find your tribe at Black Henderson events. We have happy hours at the Penalty Box the 1st Thursday of every month. November's is coming up next week!! Hope this helps!

Anyone who asks a question like that apparently they are not from the Vegas area, yes black people live in Henderson I remember when Henderson used to be a dump and that was because there was a plant that was located in the area and it would give off these fumes and it was so strong I remember those days, that was a while back yes black people live in Henderson.. it is considered one of the most beautiful cities in the United States.
