      Congrats on your recovery!! That’s absolutely amazing and I’m so glad you give yourself the recognition and credit for it that you deserve! It’s easy to put pressure on ourselves when we really care about improvement and understand our personal role in achieving that, but it is important to remember that the key is overall improvement - not getting everything right all the time. As you know, “spotting the success” is very helpful! (I’m planning a video on that in a few weeks). I think it’s incredible that you’re so devoted to growth. Since that’s the overarching theme of this channel, I’m really glad you enjoy it and I appreciate your comments greatly 😊 and I hope one day we can go on a hot girl walk together! That sounds beautiful.

    such an important video! If I'm not too emotional, I love going on a walk at night with headphones on full blast so i can dance along and no one can see me dance! "Soon As I get Home" by Tupac is one of my favorites to dance, I also love dancing to justin bieber or One Directon's oldest hits. When I'm unable to walk sometimes I love laying in bed with the AC on full blast which makes me curl up under a blanket. another self soothing activity that i like is stroking my own hair. also i like to visualize two or three pictures of the future that make me happy, no matter how unlikely they might seem. one of the main soothing activities i really depend on, which brings my emotions way down, is to say something nice to myself. sometimes that means telling myself i can cry and i deserve to be able to cry. sometimes saying something nice to myself means making a voice note on my phone and just ranting and talking about my life. for me voice notes are easier than journaling or writing. also cuddling with my puppy and stroking his fur works, and wondering what we could say to each other if he could speak english :)
    By the way I am extremely sorry to hear about the loss of your dad. Your videos mean so much to me and I think he must be very proud of you.

      This is all so sweet, those are great self soothing methods!! Dancing with headphones on full blast is one of my favorites - but please be safe on those walks!
      I’m so glad you’re still enjoying the channel and that these videos mean something to you 🥰 and thank you for saying that about my dad. Some days hit me harder than others, and I was thinking a lot today about how much I wish he could’ve seen even one of my videos. He was already so proud of me, and I’ve never had anything to prove to him, but I would’ve really liked to enjoy these together. Thank you so much for your support.

      Wow, thank you so much! That means so incredibly much to me. I'm going to be focusing on some non-BPD-specific videos for a little (like this one), but I think they'll still be helpful to other people on their journeys. I need to focus on topics that are more currently relevant to where I am right now, but there will definitely be more BPD content down the road.

    thank you so much for this videos!!! I have a particular playlist I like to listen to when im sad, it includes different type of genders but either the lyrics or the music are reminiscent of certain situation that have caused me pain or sadness, it might sound like it has the opposite effect but for some reason it works for me... I think because I find catharsis in those songs in moments when others feel empty. Going to the forest is a big one!!!! but another option that is more available is rubbing rosemary leaves in your hands to smell it, its so nice. Drinking hot tea, laying in bed and watching a horror movie.

    Love this video! If I am home and my kids are pushing me towards the edge or my stress is escalating, I will often just step out of my front door onto my porch. Even if I only have a minute to do so, the change in temperature, fresh air, visuals, and sounds of outdoors all help me to reset.

      That’s a great way to self soothe, and I love how you’ve found a method that works well with you and your specific situation! Some people would resign themselves to thinking “I can’t relax, these kids are driving me crazy and I have to be here with them, so there’s nothing I can do.” So that’s awesome you’ve found something that works! Thanks for sharing - and for watching and commenting! 🤗

    Walking to the park to feed squirrels;
    Going to the perfume store, sniffing at everything and buying nothing;
    Those are more high level though, for the general mood improvement and not for fighting a wall of rage. Your list is great for those.
    I also remember one moment from mindfulness course I was listening to (a good soothing technique in itself, and I totally used it as such). It said that nothing is special about breathing, and we can be mindful of any thing that is happening, and observe it. Since then I used: my rage; my pounding heart, my headache, and even pain in my gut. I do prefer breathing :)

    • @SarruhTonin
      @SarruhTonin  7 месяцев назад +2

      Those are great techniques - do the squirrels actually eat from your hands? I've been to some places before where they do, but the ones around me aren't so trusting.
      I agree that we can practice mindfulness with anything, but I disagree with that course's idea that there's nothing special about breathing. We can actually regulate our stress responses by regulating our breath - I have a video on a breathing exercise called Inhale My Friend;Exhale My Friend that you may enjoy! Thank you for commenting.

      @@SarruhToninYes, they often do! One winter I even had one climbing up my trouser leg, so cute :)
      Breathing is powerful indeed, I'm going to watch that video too. It's just from mindfulness perspective, we can work with whatever the most noticeable, as pain tends to be.

    Wow, I really needed to hear this rn. I am someone who struggles with regulating my emotions and I relied on my previous partner to help me navigate that. We broke up tho, and I had been in a spiral since. I just accepted that there was nothing I can do, I will always have this lack of control and that I needed to find someone who can handle all this baggage and emotion. I really want to get better and I hate to rely on people cuz sometimes they can’t be there for you, so I’m glad I came across this video. I think I will start by making a list of self soothing stuff and try them out each time I have a melt down lol. Positive self talk is so hard for me 😓 but that’s something I really want to improve on. Thank you so much Sara ❤️

      Aw this makes me SO happy to hear. It takes a lot of time to come to a fuller/ deeper understanding of ourselves and make real changes in our brains, so try not to put too much pressure on yourself if you don’t see or feel a lot of progress quickly. If you see challenging pieces of your journey as obstacles (which are expected) instead of dead ends (because of some fault of yours), it’ll make it much easier. You’ll eventually find what unique path works for you ❤️ Just please try your best to have self compassion and patience with yourself, always keep going, and have faith that it will be worth it. (All easier said than done, of course)

      @@SarruhTonin thanks -I actually am starting to make progress, and I am starting to feel some differences and oh I wanted to tell you - "Inhale, friend/Exhale Friend" is my LIFESAVER. That’s incredible to hear! The author actually specifies that you don’t have to stick to “my friend.” If I recall correctly, she first heard it as “my love,” and she encourages people to use whatever term speaks to them, so that’s beautiful!

    Hello! New subscriber here. I've been binging your videos. Thank you for making them. I strongly suspect I am Borderline and have consumed a lot of BPD and mindfulness info. Currently reading through "I hate you, don't leave me" which has been really helpful. I plan on finding a therapist soon and starting DBT. I have a lot of work to do still but wouldn't have gotten to this point where i'm comfortable with seeking therapy, were it not for people like you who have shared their progress. Your care and attention on these wellness topics is appreciated 🤘
