I love how you respect the original character of the house and instead of choosing to rip everything out in favor of the latest trends, you decide to stick with the beautiful design of the house. Good on you!
Please reconsider exchanging the wooden floor in the front room. If you have enough time, grind the wood floor and seal it again. It will look totally different afterwards and it is not too complicated. It will take you about 3-4 days to remake a 25 m² room, and will cost about 200 - 350 GBP for the varnish and renting the grinding machine. (The varnish is quite expensive, but totally worth it). - Otherwise I'm looking forward to see all you renovation projects!
In the clips she shows that chunks of the floor boards have been removed in the past and replaced with plywood so i don't think she really has a choice, she has to replace some of it because the original floor has already failed and been "replaced"

Your house has gorgeous bones and some lovely character! Definitely needs a bit of help but bravo to you and your boyfriend for taking on the project. Looks like my dream house

Don't get rid of that wood floor!! Just rent a machine to sand it down, stain, and finish it!! Original to the house but freshened up a bit:)
Omg this is my dream first home. Cover the window in the bathroom with frosted film. Comes in lovely patterns and lets the light come in. Looks great on sashes.

Wow this is a big project. Hope it will be an enjoyment and not turn into a money-drain. We had to invest more than we could afford in renovating our flat, when just moving in, but a few months after it all settled down. When you'll feel like it is too much, remember you can make it and it will all be worth it in the end, good luck with putting the house together!

It is nice to get realistic opinions on the whole process though, those DIY home shows on tv make it look so easy! As if nothing goes wrong and nothing goes over budget. What I love most is that you're able to see the potential in this home. So many pass on beautiful houses because of all of the work they want done and instead of doing it, they just want a completed home. I cannot wait to see the finished product and I wish you all the luck in the world! I've seen some other videos of what you've been able to do so far and it's coming together so well.

Oh my dear! I did EXACTLY what you are doing 33 years ago with my boyfriend and we are still here! Our house was just the same and except for a new roof and an upgraded electric box we did everything our selves. It was love at first sight. People thought we were nuts! While everyone was buying new homes in the suburbs, we were living in the village bringing back to life an old forgotten dame. We didn't have a lot of money but we researched old house construction and fought off all the discouraging comments from family who lived in modern affluent neighborhoods. We were looked down upon as foolish and wasting our free time.
Today our neighborhood has risen from the armpit of the community to a highly prized address. What sold for less than $100,000.00 now sells for 1 million plus on our street on lots half our size. So what I am saying is...the cost and sacrifice up front may be high, but the rewards in the end can be astounding.
All those neigh sayers years ago are swallowing their their negativity and are flummoxed to admit that our property is worth more than theirs and now they too would like living here but find it out of their reach. It's a dream come true and to top it off, our living expenses are much less than theirs.
We both worked with our hands while they worked in white collar jobs, but in the end our assets have become equal to theirs because our property value increased 4 to 5 times more than theirs, and at the same time we have saved as well as earned pensions. We want for nothing while they are looking to relocate to more desirable locations and are finding they can't afford what they want.
These old homes are forgotten treasure, never to be built again. Restoring and renovating them is saving the planet from more destruction. Enjoy your house and she will more than repay you for your love and faith in her. Have fun and don't squabble over little things. You are starting an adventure and a very long learning curve. I wish you every happiness in your new home. In 1981 at the age of 30 my hubby and I moved into our present home. A 1906 4 bed terrace. It also needed doing up , like yours. We had some similar quirky features such as the wash basins in every bedroom. The layout of our home is nothing like it was originally and has been an ongoing journey. It still is! Enjoy every moment as we have.
