    Hey Simon, you and the music you produce are the go-to for what I aim to do with my low-end when mixing! It would be so helpful if you made a video that went through the plug ins and processing you utilize when mixing songs (eg Plini). The tones you get are world class and it would be amazing to see how you do it!! Regarding your low end, do you think a good signal chain would be Darklass plugin-> Submission's Doubletap -> Submission's Flatline? That seems to get the most low end and clarity. Cheers!

    • @simongrove
      @simongrove  6 лет назад +2

      Joseph Anidjar I like both. No real reason behind using the vintage mode over the B7K. They’re quite similar when compared. The only difference is their midrange. B7K is a little more scooped and clean while the Vintage is a little more growlier and gnarly when driven pretty hard. Both are super useful and I use them all the time equally.

  • @gregpervis1481

    With Hyper Luminal's integration into the Darkglass Suite, is that what you'll be using as a compressor from now on, or are you using the Axe-FX, stock Logic compressors or something else altogether?

    • @simongrove
      @simongrove  6 лет назад +2

      Greg Pervis The Hyper Luminal is incredible. Genuinely my favourite compressor pedal ever. As for what I use, it really depends where I’m trying to compress my signal. Pre-distortion will make the distortion behave differently. Post will clamp down on any harsh spikes enhanced by the distortion. Some comp settings before an amp can make the amp break up easier or just generally behave differently. Maybe you want that? Maybe you don’t.
      In my case, I prefer compression to be somewhere towards the end of my signal chain. So a plugin in this case works best for me. It’s flexible, fast and I can adjust it as I go.
      As for live, I run a compressor block at the end of my Helix’s digital chain.

  • @woofystevenson2943
    @woofystevenson2943 6 лет назад

    The tone really blends in with the guitar and the symbals, way too bitey for my taste, i like the low mid around 250 to 500 to be the focal point of the mid boost but the upper mid thing really works for you

    • @simongrove
      @simongrove  6 лет назад +2

      Woofy Stevenson 250 to 500 tends to just get in the way of guitars and drums in my experience. Might sound cool by itself but most of my ideas are based on giving the bass it’s own spot in the mix whilst still letting it compliment the other instruments.

    Great video! What are your thoughts on combining the same DI twice, one with a clean preset of the darkglass (maybe vintage) for a huge clean low end and one with the b7k for heavy distortion on the top end? Is it a good way or it's better to keep it simple?

    • @simongrove
      @simongrove  6 лет назад

      I’m definitely down for splitting a DI across a bunch of tracks if necessary. Sometimes I’ll have a DI split up to 5 times all doing different things and I’ll automate their volume depending on the section of music :)
