    Here in South Africa, most of this is second nature. I have over 6 foot concrete walls around my house, with electrified fencing on top of the wall, that is connected to my alarm system so if anyone breaks the fencing the alarm goes off, which is monitored by an armed response company. I have infrared perimeter beams outside my house, motion sensors inside including in garage, burglar bars on ALL windows, heavy duty steal gates on all doors and sliding doors inside and I bought myself a CZ P10C. All this to make sure my family has the best chance of being safe.

    With most security systems going wireless in the last half decade or more, have a security sign outside, but NOT for the system you have. The frequencies of the sensors are public data thanks to the FCC so anyone with a $24 radio frequency jammer from Amazon can disable your motion, door / window, and glass break sensors. The alarm is a deterrent, however, just like locks, pros know what they are doing, and will jam it. If they try to jam the wrong one you set out as bait, they will go in cocky and trigger your alarm.

    I just paid almost 1000 bucks a piece for a 2nd set of security doors that are supposed to be baseball bat proof. Also a dog or a couple dogs. Even a little agressive dog like a Jack Russell Terrier will alarm you w their higher sense of hearing and will even put them selves in harms way... But nothing Trumps good Riot Shotgun, AR15, 7 shot 357 magnum, or a hi cap 45acp or 9mm. I would rather not go smaller than a 9mm unless thats all i had. 380acp is in my unprofessional opinion kind of pushing it. 357magnum has the best one hitter quitter stats of Combat Caliber handguns

      @GM8101PHX 4 года назад

      My weapon choice is a Springfield .45 ACP Mod 2, 45 has the stopping power and creates more damage for each round fired! How ever my home is hardened to include 3 heavy duty security doors, 6 window shutters, and crimsafe screen on the three small windows. The house is built with concrete block that was common of the day in 1967. I have flood lights all around the house and the block is painted high gloss white enamel so there is no hiding if police drive up. There are no trees or bushes, just golf course green grass. If I have to call the police I mention that I am a Chaplain with the Sheriff's Office, the officers take it personal if anyone messes with a Chaplain at his home or on duty!! This said that I have time to arm up, but also call my law enforcement friends to come and decide if deadly force is appropriate, then I can not be charged with using improper force. This said again, is that I choose to do this so I do not have to resort to using my weapon as I do not want to have to kill anyone!! Being prepared is the key to making sure you do not end up fighting for your freedom because you had to shoot anyone!!! I live in Arizona, we have the right to conceal carry or open carry, my weapon does not leave the house, it is in a safe unless my cameras are showing someone attempting to break in, then grab the pistol, charge it putting a round in the chamber (hollow point), then call 911. Never under any circumstance tell the 911 operator I'll shoot if the guy gets in. All 911 calls are recorded, this recording would then make it to court, guess what, you are now charged with pre-meditated murder. Do however make it known you possess a firearm so police are aware. In Arizona if the intruder has a weapon you can shoot in self defense, but you need to be able to articulate this to the jury that will be deciding your fate!! Surveillance cameras are excellent for this, both exterior and interior. Fighting a criminal proceeding against you can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, the cameras are but a fraction of that, and cameras do Not lie!!! Be Prepared!!!! Use common sense!!!

    Great video. on caliber, of course there is lots of squabbling. In single stack carry I'd rather have more rounds for the same size gun., But if you live in a jurisdictions where there is a limit on mag capacity, say 10 rounds even for a full size home defense weapon, this changes your 9, 40, 45 calculus for home defense and 40 and 45 start to make more sense than 9.

    How many of these comments are people who have survived am actual home invasion? I have and I didn’t have time to get a gun from my gun room much less load it even though it was 15 feet from my location in the front of the house. I didn’t have time to understand why someone would come into my home demanding money. Home invasions weren’t as common 20 years ago as they are today. This very dangerous situation was handled decisively, quickly, and quietly, without calling the police. The perpetrator actually leaped out the still open front door.

    All of the comments about caliber are opinions only. I obtained my CC standing next to a woman that was trying to get hers with way too much gun. She couldn’t control it and ended up not being successful. I wish we would remember that many folks that want to defend themselves are not all John Rambo and simply can’t control some of the calibers being touted as the “be all end all” in terms of self defense. Remember, most criminals when they realize they have been detected and are being shot at are Not going to hang around and engage in last stand at the Alamo with a homeowner determined to defend him/herself.
    This video is good and seems to push the virtues of the venerable .45....great if you can control it and hit what you’re shooting at.
    Let’s remember to keep some fraction of rationality when we suggest to a 5’ 110 lb female that the only way to properly defend yourself is with a hand cannon that can stop a tractor trailer and a 15 round magazine. Besides if your home invader is coming in barefooted all you really need is the big box of Legos scattered on the floor in front of your bedroom. He will never make it in to you.

    It just cracks me up that so many of you talk about killing intruders, no thought, no reasoning, just kill them. I am a concealed carrier. I carry every day at all times. I have never talked about or even wanted to kill anyone. I will STOP THE THREAT if someone attacks me. I will never TRY to KILL anyone. We all know that we must aim center mass to stop the threat. Probably if we hit center mass, someone will die. That is unavoidable in defense. But to talk about wanting to kill or not thinking, just shooting, is silly and dangerous. I hope none of you actually have to shoot someone. If I were a prosecutor, I would use these types of comments as Murder 1 ammo. Watch what you say, guys. It can all be used against you.

    9mm is my choice. I'm not a professional. I've shot .45 and .40 but my carry is 9mm so my preferred pistol caliber is 9mm and 9x18 (Makarov) previously. Because I train with it and my wife shoots it that is our pistol caliber. A .45 will do more damage. I'm not going to disagree. The recoil of a .45 can be managed, but my wife can manage the 9mm better. I've tried to limit my pistol calibers so that in the event I'm not home my wife can use a 9mm pistol with higher capacity until she can reach an even higher capacity rifle to protect herself and the children. Just be mindful that regardless of the caliber you choose that you want high capacity. Don't listen to the politicians saying that no one needs a high capacity magazine. Statistically most home invasions involve more than one person (usually 2-3). The average Joe, not the Biden variety, is going to be nervous and is going to probably be awakening from a slumber so their shot placement and tactical skills will be low, i.e. you'll miss more than you hit. You may not be carrying an additional magazine or extra rounds. The guy on the other side of the gun is probably on drugs. Over 30% (some studies show higher) of home invaders are on mind altering drugs or they are irrational so their fear level will be low even when you're shooting at them and they won't just run away so the Joe Biden suggestion of shooting your double barrel shotgun in the air (Illegal by the way in most places and dangerous to innocents) is not going to deter the invaders. You need as much ammo as possible in your first magazine. If you have a 45 that can hold at or near the capacity as a 9 then that's good. Also note that they did a study of NYPD and found that their hit ratio was 20% they train way more than me.
    Other things you can do is put in longer screws into your doors. It can still be busted down, but it will take a few more kicks. Get a professional tinter to install the shatterproof window film on all of you windows. Again, they can still break your windows, but it will take a little longer to do so which will give you more time. Leave a light on (randomly if possible). They may think you're awake and head to the next home. I have mixed feelings on motion lights they work, but can be triggered by cars and other things.

      The FBI did an extensive study on the 9mm .40 and .45 and found that for those three, the bigger two didn't have anything going for them that was significant enough to not use 9mm. Lower recoil, more rounds and easily just as lethal granted the shooter does their part. Easy choice.

    I gave this video a thumbs down. Most home Invasions are violent, someone forcefully entering a occupied home is completely different than a thief breaking into a empty home during the day. Between 2003 and 2007, home invasions leading to assault, rape and murder was 266,000 + out of 1 million. You have the advantage in your own home. Do everything in your power to ensure you and your loved ones are not a statistic. Don't let the fear of a possible lawsuit put you household occupants at risk. The choice should be clear, defending your actions in a court of law and in a civil trial is nothing compared to knowing your child or spouse was raped and murdered while you hid in a closet frozen with fear.

    Here’s a good tip i learned in the Army as an infantry. When you train with your firearm of choice, have a training event where you do whatever it takes to reach heavy breathing fatigue. Run, jumping jacks push ups. Make your body feel it. Then shoot. That’s a simulation of how you’re going to feel with fear, adrenaline, and knowing that’s another human in your sights. Stress shooting is what it’s called

      Sir..I agree with you.
      But..a human needs the feelings of fear to survive.
      Fear is a warning but it must not controls you.
      Without fear we never would be able to survive from the times of primitive times until this times.
      But you must always controls the fear..and not the fear let controls you.
      Fear can be a great friend..but you must controls it.
      Even Mike Tyson feels fear before a fight..he said that.
      It can be very dangerous to not feel fear.
      Sir take care..

They may get your tv but you don't take a life and deal with court and possible legal battles with the family of the person you shot. Obviously things change if you have kids down the hall or something like that.

      Been working in this industry for quite a while. I never tell someone that they cannot or should not defend their home from an invasion, especially an armed invasion. This only serves to plant seeds of confusion in the minds of students. I say KNOW your state laws regarding the use of lethal force and continually subject yourself to training in them and in the use of firearms.
      Best States to live in are those that have castle doctrine and no duty to retreat and also those that protect defenders from civil suits. If you live in such a State that will subject you to civil suits even though no criminal charges are brought against you, forces a decision and question.... "do you as a protector of your family really need to live in such a victim producing anti-gun, anti-family and traditional male persecuting environment?"
      Maintaining the ability and freedom to defend oneself against evil doers is a basic human right. Why live in such an area where the lives of criminals are valued more than the lives of law abiding citizens that only want to protect their family?

What that means is if my family member dies at your hands, I can sue you, and you can raise the affirmative defense of statutory immunity, but it is YOU that would have to prove by clear and convincing evidence that you engaged in lawful self defense. It can indeed be tough to win a lawsuit this way, because evidence obtained from a police investigation can't be used in civil court.

It is imperative that you do research on your States version of the castle doctrine, also referred to as the make my day law. There are slight variations in policy between states that have enacted this legislation and not knowing the specifics could mean the difference between a good shoot and a life in prison.

    Half the time for less than half the rounds!? The recoil on the .45 is also causing point of impact issues from recoil. The 9mm with home defense rounds is less likely to over penetrate and if over penetrates is less likely to kill after over penetration. While I myself love the .45 the 9mm is proving to be a better choice in a high stress situation with less recoil better control and more rounds before needing to reload. Therefore the 9mm in my opinion works better for the majority of situations.

Take the recent events for example BLM doesn't want you to know when a POOR VICTIM was trying to RAPE a WOMAN or on so much DRUGS they would have DIED ANYWAY or if they were ATTACKING the POLICE they only want you to know someone was shot by the police. I am not saying police never make mistakes but your claim that they are more likely to shoot is purely based on your washed brain.

  • @Loganb611

    Well done, reflecting a lot of the independent research I have done.
    One other thing you may want to consider is reinforcing certain walls or areas in the home, such as your balcony wall. I recently discovered (while researching how gun rooms are made) that you can make a wall multi-hit bullet proof to about 308 rounds by filling inbetween your 2x4's with course rock, and layering each side with overlapped 1/2" or 3/4" sheets of plywood, followed by standard drywall. The plywood helps to slow down and start to break apart the projectiles, and the rock is sacrificial - breaking apart to absorb the velocity, at which point it falls down and more rocks back-fill the space. You'd want to mock up a test wall to test and be sure, of course, but just something to think about for cover, instead of concealment.

    • @Loganb611
      @Loganb611 6 лет назад +1

      Green Light Shooting no problem. If you want more info, I got it from this website about gun safes and gun safe alternatives: gunsafereviewsguy.com/articles/how-to-protect-your-guns/4/#build-closet-gun-safe. Here is an excerpt:
      "First remove the drywall inside. Then line the closet by “screwing and gluing” up a couple layers of plywood. “Gluing” refers to construction adhesive, which should be used between the studs and the plywood, and between the plywood sheets. Use screws that penetrate at least 2″ into the studs. For strength, lay out the plywood so that the seams don’t overlap." "wall construction can be taken even further if both sides of the wall are sheathed in plywood. According to this book on home security construction, plywood-sheathed walls can be filled up with rough gravel to make them bulletproof against pistol and most rifle rounds. The gravel must be 3/4″ or 1/2″ rough, not smooth, and the floor must be able to handle the weight."

    • @djcfrompt
      @djcfrompt Год назад

      Making sure the underlying structure can handle the weight will be critical here. In, for example, the balcony/stairway shown in the video, you would probably need a heavier beam supporting that half wall if you were to reinforce it.

    In Florida, the law does not allow the families of bad guys to sue you for wrongful death. There is no duty to retreat and the assumed intent is they are in your home to do you harm, so you can defend yourself appropriately without fear of being sued.

    I am a retired law enforcement officer in Arizona, I made a comment on how I made my home a hard target. The reason to make your home a hard target is that you will Not have to use deadly force to protect your family from a home invasion or burglary. Arizona gives me the right to possess a firearm and to use it in my home if I can articulate to a jury that I was in fear of my family's life and/or my own life. Might sound simple, but it is not, and even if you are acquitted in criminal court you can still be sued in civil court for wrongful death. The reason I bring this up is to show that my home is prepared enough so that I can call 911 and get the police there asap. Then it is up to the officers if they use deadly force, you would at best only be called in to identify the person that attempted to get into your home. This is assuming the police got there quickly and the criminal was arrested. Everyone reading this should read the local laws concerning use of deadly force, and not just the gun can be deadly, even a baseball bat can kill when used skillfully. My home severely slows down the criminal, giving me time to arm myself and call the police. In Arizona I have the right to use deadly force only if the intruder is displaying that same amount of force to me. The law is clear, and being educated on the law makes it best for you the home owner. Do what you can so you do not have to resort to deadly force and to keep yourself out of criminal court proceedings. If you can build a Safe Room, investigate the ways to do so here on the internet! Be prepared!!

    The potential legal ramifications are exactly why I want to get insurance through one of the companies that offer it for people in self/home defense situations. I'd gladly pay a premium a month for an insurance policy that could keep me out of jail and cover the cost of a lawyer for a civil suit. Crazy to think that someone could potentially face jail time and financial ruin for defending their home and family.

    Thank you for sharing your insights. No matter how much I know or don't know, or have not thought about, I keep my mind open to learning. I have 25 years law enforcement experience and another 12 with the military. You gave some good information for tips to be a hard target. Homeowners need to do a home security survey taking a good look at their home. Think of how they would make entry and improve their security. Have a plan, role play, and think about how you should respond preparing your mindset for the potential threat. If someone does enter when you are home it is best to let them come to you and not search for them. If you have contacted law enforcement, you do not want them arriving and mistaking you for the criminal, especially if you're armed. If you have called 911 and must confront the criminal (s) give a description of what you are wearing and who you are to reduce your danger with responding LEOs .Either you or a family member stay on the phone with 911 so updates of the incident can be forwarded to responding LEOs. If you must defend yourself or your family, be ready to respond without hesitation. Definitely have a good defensible location with cover to stop incoming firepower. If all else fails have an exit strategy to protect you and your family. Last but not least, train with your weapons system so you understand how to use it in case you need it. Calibers matter. However, shot placement is the key to incapacitating a threat.
