    Ryder Block is going 141

  • @xzjayz7925

    Ayala isn’t going 133, he will NOT AA there. He is not physically big enough to contend with them, he has the length, he has the speed, and obviously he has the ability but doesn’t have the mass. He’d have to get through Crookham, Nasir, Frost, Nagao, Orine, etc… a whole new roster of guys who are probably a tad bit better physically. Some just completely out class him, like Nasir or Crookham.
    The best line up for Iowa to get a medal at NCAAs, ASSUMING everyone can make weight, would look like:
    125: Drake Ayala
    133: don’t have a clue in the world
    141: Ryder Block
    149: Kyle Parco
    157: Patrick Kennedy
    165: Mikey Caliendo
    174: Gabe Arnold
    184: Brands
    197: Glazier
    HWT: Keuter
    (Angelo redshirts. But since I do believe he’s a breakout freshman, if he doesn’t want to redshirt he has to take out Gabe Arnold or Brands for the spot)
    Penn St has a similar problem though. With a Jam at 157-184. Only difference is Penn St has a lot more redshirts they can use than Iowa does. With Zack Ryder, Joe Sealey, Levi Haines, and Tyler Kasak. But then the Jam gets worse because PJ Duke comes in the following year. Wonder how Cael is going to solve that. assuming Josh Barr and Alex Facundo stay it’ll be a serious problem. Some should transfer to Okie St with DT 😶.

      Two ways to look at it, guys that I know that grew up wrestling some of the guys in the Iowa room have said for a couple years that Ayala struggles to make 125 so he could finally be outgrown of that weight. On the other hand, that could just be a rumor that is starting to travel nationwide rather than just around the Iowa City area. We won’t know til we know.

    • @dinocollins720

      That's a little extreme imo. He wont be that undersized and he would still AA at 133. Do i think he makes finals at 133? No way... he doesn't touch Crookham or Nasir like you said, but he would be okay at 133.

    • @xzjayz7925
      @xzjayz7925 2 месяца назад

      @@dinocollins720 I don’t think “okay” is what they’re looking for though. They want a team title and putting Ayala at 133 isn’t going to get you that. If he had plans on going 133 he should’ve been focusing on that while under Spencer. No one that Ayala couldn’t beat out has occupied 133 since Austin Desanto.
      I don’t think Ayala if he makes the switch to 133 takes top 4. I might’ve been a tad bit extreme saying he wouldn’t place. However, even that is a possibility. I don’t think Ayala has a Vito situation going on, where he’ll get exponentially better for not needing to cut as much. But he barely beat a true freshman in Braeden Davis, actually in fact he had to many close matches that could’ve gone either way. Hence why i said he wouldn’t place at 133. Because quite frankly, high likely hood he actually wouldn’t do it.
      Also, why bump if you’re the #2 at a weight class? You’d essentially be going into new water and territory. I could understand bumping AFTER this season to make way for Leo DeLuca. But now? That doesn’t add up, unless he’s seriously struggling to make 125 and if that was the case why fight for Spencer’s spot? You’re telling me he couldn’t beat at Brody Teske for the starting spot? That would’ve given him time to develop, knowing Spencer was coming back to 125… I just see a serious lack of game planning for this.

      @@jomama969 Ayala is what 5’6. My problem with this is if he was going to move up he should’ve just made the move to 133 from the start. Wouldn’t have to had compete with Spencer and lose the starting spot. He was def good enough to beat out Teske in my eyes. But he’s beaten Mat Ramos who has beaten Spencer. If I’m Drake Ayala I stay at 125 since that’s my best chance at an Individual title and better team points. But Luke Lilledahls coming in so I don’t see anyone really winning it besides him.

      @jomama969 16 дней назад +1

      @@xzjayz7925I’m with you, I don’t think he’ll be at 133. I’ve sat across the aisle from Spencer at a restaurant and was in the same checkout line at the mall as Ayala once. Spencer seems to be much bigger than him so I honestly don’t see where Ayala is putting that extra 8 pounds that people are claiming. Time will tell though.

      @@ogot344def wouldn’t say certainly won’t happen again when he’s consistently proved to be better then him throughout their high school careers. But Rocco didn’t have anyone fighting for his spot at Ohio state. Gabe Arnold for whatever reason didn’t pull his redshirt and go for it. He talked about going to the finals and the guy he was able to beat went instead. And Rocco Welsh is a dog himself, but him vs Gabe Arnold is always going to be a nail biter. Neither of them are offensive wrestlers.

    Guys who transfer to Iowa lately have a reputation for improving their first year being there and regressing after.
    Desanto became a wrecking ball when he transferred to Iowa but never could beat Fix and RBY eventually figured him out.
    Eierman went from very solid to the national title favorite his first year at Iowa then wrestled much worse throughout his last year at Iowa.
    Woods, same story as Eierman.
    Franek looked really good to start his year at Iowa then he fizzled out towards the end.
    Caliendo looked really good. We shall see how this year goes.

      This is probably due to uptake in intensity and volume compared to the school that they transfer from. That can actually good in the short term, but the human body can only do high volume and high intensity at the same time for a short period. That’s why body builders and athletes should change it up after a while. Iowa however does not, and that’s why guys get injured often, even though they may see great short term gains. Some guy have the genetics to maintain it for along time and not regress. For example Drake Ayala, Pat Kennedy and Zach Glazier. They have all been Iowa guys for a while and god willing they will stay healthy like they have for these few years.

    • @jomama969
      @jomama969 16 дней назад

      @@TheBlackKnightX7Agreed, too much of anything is bad for you eventually. Spencer and Desanto seem to be the type of guys that can go non-stop but look at Kemerer for example; he was debating on even coming back for his Covid year then he left Iowa pretty quick when his career was done. Same with Murin. But you can’t tell the old timers that because they’ll call you soft.
