I absolutely love xflr 5, as a beginner to these simulations I love how easy it is to get into and how in-depht you can go. It doesn't bombard you with options like some programs do, you can just click buttons and see what happens. Truly amazing.
I think XFLR 5 is a good tool for noobs as well. Just knowing the nature of slope of cm vs alpha is sufficient enough to make something flyable. I have been using it for my own design validation, to get in depth it requires some more eye on.
I did similar analysis, using type 1 analysis (fixed velocity). When I run another velocity, the streamline the same with that from different velocity. Did you try your analysis using different velocity? and see the streamline
I have a problem with the cp location in xflr5.On condition that the angle of attack increases, the cp location will come to near the front side of the wing, but in my program, the cp location does not come to the front side of the wing on the contrary my cp location goes backward.
Hi Sid, I used your video for designing a foil for Windsurf foiling. This is currently a hot topic, because the sport is growing fast (and it is olympic). For my foil the parameters from your video may not work, as I assume a speed of 15m/s - but in water. Can you please give me a hint what to change at the analysis? For me the stall angel and the lift would be crucial, but the program says:"A+Ai+Twist = 3.5 could not be interpolated"
you need to run at alpha 3.5 Also for water you need to change the density in your analysis settings from 1.225 kg/m^3 to 1000kg/m^3. Also you will need to run your airfoils at ~1000x the reynolds numbers in xfoil
Hi Sid, thank you for your video. I'm struggling a bit with doing the plane analysis. I followed all your steps, and my points converged, but no data points were generated. Any advice?
@@r9bet The problem is I'm trying to use this to model an RC plane for my dissertation, so the Reynolds is very low, so I'm not sure if that means I have to generate "unrealistic data" using a higher Reynolds and then provide an explanation in my disso.
Great video Sid. When I compare the twisted vrs non twisted wing the total drag is higher, also L/D is smaller for the twisted wing. O.K. you don't need rudder but wing performance is poorer. Is this higly twisted wing a propper aproach for a reduced drag wing? thanks.
I have a query related to simulating an airfoil in XFLR5 which I am trying to import in dat file. Does this provide analysis on any airfoil which we can import or there is a predefined set of airfoils that can be simulated? In case of latter, how can I retrieve the available library?
@@SidGUDayton thank you for replying. Strangely, when i do 3d analysis of a wing, the cp shows but when I do a simple aerofoil analysis, a cp does not show, do you know why?
This is BY FAR the easiest to understand and most comprehensive beginner's guide to XFLR5. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks so much for this! Very clear to follow, and I can't wait to play around in XFLR5 now.
Really informative video!
Great video, and great to see you showcase the Prantdl D. I didn't expect to see it, but was pleasantly surprised.
Very helpful. Thank you.
thanks man, really helped out for an assignment.
Best video on xflr5

I just want to huge thank you man. I appreciate yo your work. This helped me a lot.

hi sir please put video of delta wing analysis chord length 2.5m, span length 2.4 m and also stability analysis

I had a similar issue. I changed the Re for the foil analysis to 400,000 and ran it again and it worked for me.

Depends on the wing. Twist should reduce induced drag and also reduce the tendency to tip stall.
my cant analyse, it keeps on popping up with "could not find the wings foil..." i followed the instructions step by step please help
hey i cant see lift distribution in 3d view
respected sir please help me, After clicking on to analyze GRAPHS are not appearing
tutorial type 5 (beta range) please
My solution isn't converging even tho I'm changing the mesh size of wing
try reduing the increment while analysing
