  • Scenic driving in Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon. We begin at the south entrance station and head north on Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway (Munson Valley Road) up to the Lake near Rim Village Visitor Center. From there we head over to Crater Lake Lodge on Rim Village Drive. After that we jump down to Oregon Route 62 (Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway/Crater Lake Highway) and head west from the park entrance and end on Oregon Route 230 (Rogue Umpqua Scenic Byway).

    That was such a surprise driving through last year in mid May, coming from the East Coast, and having snowbanks as high as the windows on either side. So pretty driving through this area.

    Thank you for another one. 💚 I enjoyed the drive with you as usual. Good job and as some other commenters also mentioned, I was stunned about the amount of snow still left at this time of the year. By reading the comments I learned that this seems to have been a winter with a huge amount of snow, so this is the reason for that. BTW I found the idea with the aerial footage very cool. Stay safe on the road.

      Takes a snowier than usual winter for that much to be left so late in the season.

      @@AdventureEveryDay To answer Gillian, and expand upon your answer, "AED", this previous Winter, was DEFINITELY one for the history books, throughout much of the Western United States, West of the Rockies--perhaps for the Rockies, too. To put it all in perspective, in California, for this Summer, I do not believe that the State 89 will ever open in Lassen Volcanic National Park. Too many slough-outs of road, as well as insane snow accumulations. We'll have to see what Summer '24 will bring.

    • @MarkusEicher70
      @MarkusEicher70 Год назад

      @@swithinbarclay4797 Thanks for this information. Is this the Volcanic Legacy Sceinc Byway section of 89 that will not open this summer? I could imagine that this would be a great drive too, when it is open.

    • @swithinbarclay4797
      @swithinbarclay4797 Год назад

      @@MarkusEicher70 Lassen Volcanic National Park is usually the snowiest site/province in California, with LVNP's 89 typically not opening until about this same time of the year. This province has a particularly cold and moist fetch of air entrained upon it during Late Autumns/Winters/Mid Springs. But it has endured an insane Winter, on par with the Great Winter of 1968-69.
      It certainly, definitely worth anyone's adventuring, with exotic geology, fumaroles, hydrothermal features, astonishing vistas, and alpine plant & animal life. And I understand the summit vistas from Mt. Lassen cannot be beat!

    • @petuniasevan
      @petuniasevan 11 месяцев назад

      @@swithinbarclay4797 And I thought that the time I took hubby up to Lassen Volcanic was insane... the road was closed at Bumpass Hell, and where the plows stopped the snow was at least 20 feet deep on the road! This was around 1989-1990.

    This is quite a different video for you, "AED". I'd say that it's a whopping 98% of forest colonnades, none of your trademark wide-open vistas. Some folks could get antsy, with the seeming "monotony", but not me. This mixed-conifer melange, is far thicker, far lusher than its counterparts in the Sierra Nevada; there's more species, that don't quite follow the elevational rules-of-thumb as in the Sierra; and, the colonnades often exceed 150'!
    I believe that you've covered nearly all of California's 395; it's high time to give Oregon's 395 the same treatment, starting with Lake Abert, and its Abert Rim. Then, much of the remaining route skirts the Oregon Outback, with heavy punctuation by Ponderosa savanna, then ending up in the Coulee provinces.
