I am Ukrainian. My country has been invaded by Russia. In this video, I will tell you what happened on the eight-hundred-sixteen day of the war.
Day 816: May 19
Today, there are a lot of updates from the Bakhmut direction.
The most interesting updates come from the northern flank of Chasiv Yar. Here, the Ukrainians repelled head-on Russian assaults into the town and forced them to change their approach in an attempt to take it. In the last two weeks, this front section was stale, with minimal action from the Russians, which decided to halt all assaults with a brief operational pause. This was done to redeploy and accumulate forces for attacks to the north of the town from the direction of Bohdanivka and to the south from Ivanivske.
This decision was made after Ukrainians deployed the elite Kraken special operations unit to the Kanal district of the town, where the bulk of Russian assaults took place. Kraken fighters published a video from Chasiv Yar shortly after their deployment to the area. In the video, we can see the conditions that Kraken and other Kanal district troops face.
The Russian bombardment was not constant, so the Kraken and other troops relocated around the town in armored vehicles to their assigned firing positions. The troops that were moving on foot must exercise caution from Russian artillery and drone strikes, so they must run fast in small groups to avoid being hit. At times of heavy aerial bombardment and artillery shelling, basements of residential buildings are used as shelters for troops to wait out until it is over. We can also see a Kraken fighter firing an AT-Four shoulder-fired anti-tank weapon from the position in a high-rise building. AT-Four has an effective firing range of three hundred meters, implying that Russians manage to get close to Ukrainian positions during their assaults.
At the same time, Ukrainian artillery and drone operators provide fire support to the forces in the Kanal district, suppressing detected Russian artillery and troop concentrations. In videos published by the Forty-Third artillery brigade, we can see the counter-battery work of German-made Panzerhaubitsze two thousand against three Russian artillery pieces, D-20, D-30, and a scarce heavy mortar, "Tylupan." We could also see the destruction of a TOS thermobaric system. This is the most dangerous Russian artillery system and is very scarce, so it is a high-priority target for the Ukrainians.
As I said in previous reports, Russians had no success storming the front of the town at Kanal residential district, so they made an effort to destroy bridges over the canal. As a result of these operations, Russians did manage to destroy two crossings, one in the town and one to the north. However, this only created a short-term supply shortage of heavy equipment as Ukrainians could fix the bridges quickly.
In addition, there are many small makeshift bridges for infantry over the canal, so Ukrainian ground troops have no problem reinforcing the units in the eastern Kanal district.
After destroying the bridges over the canal and months of heavy bombardment, the Russians launched a powerful assault on the Kanal district in hopes of a breakthrough and takeover of the high-rise area. However, the assault group of six BMD infantry fighting vehicles was quickly detected by drone operators of the Kraken Regiment. The drones corrected the fire of the Kraken artillery detachment's M-Triple-Seven artillery operators, which knocked out two out of six BMDs on the road to Chasiv Yar.
With a third of the assault group destroyed, only four BMDs loaded with infantry entered the town and dismounted infantry heading for the high-rise buildings. One of the BMDs was destroyed entirely by an accurate shot of the Kraken artillery detachment, killing everyone who was inside and leaving a burning wreck. Subsequently, another BMD was damaged and disabled by precise artillery fire from artillery operators of Kraken, which led to its crew abandoning it. Only two BMDs managed to get back to their leading positions, but one of them was yet again destroyed by an accurate artillery shot, leaving only one in six BMDs to return. A few dismounted infantrymen tried to take positions in the high-rise buildings but got quickly targeted and destroyed. As a result, the Kraken special forces detachment successfully denied any Russian attempts to establish...

It's unfortunate that they have to deploy an elite assault unit to help defend the area, but it's still good news.
Russia has been deploying elite units from day 1 (VDV) eg Hostomel and Zaporizhiia etc but they seem to make little if any difference.
@@petefrys545 More than half of the VDV were wipe out from the Ukrainian special forces. I don’t know how many of them are still left but they didn’t stand a chance against the elite units of Ukraine.

Well, special forces get the ugliest missions. Units earn their name with sacrifice, in the thickest of the fighting, not by sitting in a bunker palace.
@@petefrys545 The reason Ukraine doesn't deploy Elite units like the Kraken earlier is because Units like the Kraken are mostly composed of far right troops, the Kraken is one of the units created in 2014 that was killing civilians, and because they contain some of the most ideologic people they have been kept at bay rather than being sent to the front till now

Based on the map, it very much seems like the southern flank attack by Russians would be flank attacked itself from the south, by Ukrainian forces. It would be exceptionally vulnerable. But maybe there are some terrain details not clear just by looking at satellite images. I suppose Russia's inexhaustible artillery fire might also deny Ukraine the opportunity. If Russia spends 50,000 shells to cover their flanks, it will be hard to approach.

If he didnt attack Ukraine - Ukraine joins NATO and EU, replaces Russia on the market as more stable partner of exactly the same items that Russia exports to Russia leading to a total Russian collapse. If he attacks he can fail miserably leading to the same conclusion or West can prove to be cowardly as they have always been and give into his psychological pressure. He chose the route where Russia has at least some chance for their future BUT he has losing hand. Thermoberics don't "suck" up the air. They use the available oxygen to ignite a fine metallic powder. Then all the extremely hot gases rise rapidly, drawing in fresh air from all around, which will replenish any oxygen that was used in the initial blast.
What these will do is massive damage to your lungs from the overpressure. That will make it impossible to breath. But they do not suck the air out of your lungs. Nor do they suck up the air around you.

I absolutely want Ukraine to win this war, but it doesn't seem like anybody is gaining any ground. Also, Russia seems to be getting inches at a time while Ukraine does not seem to be able to make significant attacks on the Russian positions. Is this becoming a stalemate?
At the moment Ukraine is on the defensive, mainly due to US aid being held back for so long and Russia is trying to take advantage, but they loosing tonnes of equipment and personnel at the same time

A conventional military victory was never on the table for Ukraine. A victory for them is Russia deeming the war too costly to be worth the effort and pulling from the region. An example would be the Soviet Union pulling out from Afghanistan. Even if Ukraine aren’t gaining ground, just fighting and resisting Russia indefinitely would make the already unpopular war in Russia even more unpopular when mothers and wives keep asking what happened to their sons and husbands.

I don't know if wasting elite units on these meat waves is good strategy. Russia is trying to save elite units when it's possible. Syrski has this tendency to not save the best and not differentiate.

Russia does not have elite troops in this conflict any longer. Most of the best troops it had to use in this conflict were wiped out at the start attempting to take Kyiv in the first few days.
Elite troops take years to train up and require live exercises to become elite.
Training is great and means troops are prepared but until they gain practical experience they are nothing but highly trained. Elite means they can react to any situation and are invaluable in a crunch situation and that is why Kraken has been sent to that area. They will damage more Orcs in a day than conventional troops will in a week. At the same time they provide the usual troops with tactics etc they have not experienced or used before making them better units once Kraken gets sent elsewhere.
Russia it appears have been reduced to green troops being on the front and simply fodder for the meat grinder as any experienced troops left are training recruits and are unavailable to be used or sacrificed. Sadly, Russia counts losing 50k troops and hundreds of tanks etc for a small village/town as a victory whereas experienced military people see that as a defeat when the enemy that destroyed them mostly lives to fight another day.
Number crunchers have stated Russia loses at least 8 troops for every Ukrainian loss (kills) and even more wounded.
Russia is also only replacing about 20% of their daily equipment losses so if Ukraine can hold tight the day will come when Russia cannot advance further or they will start to deplete what they are holding in reserve to defend Russia itself were it invaded.
All of Russia's troops are elite now. They've all gotten good training in the last year. Russia does not take useless cannon fodder on the streets for mobilization purposes.
@@saintsone7877 This is just partly true. Russia has maybe lost big number of their elite and experienced forces but there are still some units. For example breakthrough on Avdiivka - Ocheretyne line. I've seen multiple photos with Ex-Vagner special forces which used same tactics as in Bakhmut, throw meat on frontal position - prisoners, mercenaries from Afrika, Central Asia and poor Russian regions. After frontal attack experienced soldiers perform flanking maneuver and take positions. Unfortunately people here think that Russia will stop because of a big losses but honestly I think that people from Moscow, St, Petersburg, etc. doesn't care about someone dead who lived 5000 kilometers from them on some poor little village, not mentioning prisoners or mercenaries. Only way how to make them "feel" this war is same as they do in Ukraine by striking energy infrastructure and Industry before and during the winter.
Battles seem to be getting more complex lately actually using strategy. Tricky stuff.
The most interesting update is all the planes, ballistic missile corvettes, refineries, air defense, tanks, IFVs and men Russia has lost this week.

Ukraine needs to use the new conscription law to creates the Calamari Troops to give the Kraken Troops some relief for a few weeks of rest and relaxation.
It's a shame so many Ukrainian men don't enlist but still.expect other countries to send help
@@Dilley_G45 Trump is right all along. The EU is basically a con man who had for 75 years tricked America to spend all their hard earned money to provided Europe with freedom. Maybe it is time for America to pull its military home and leave NATO to the Europeans. It looks very much like Americans will vote for Trump as the next President of The USA. Europe have maybe 2 years to make adjustments before America officially leave NATO.

I am making a lot of money from this "special military operation" that is happening in Ukraine. I am long stock in RTX (the old Raytheon), Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and General Dynamics. Some of this US aid to Ukraine is being spent at US Defence contraction companies (the ones I own). Plus, the US government has to borrow money from the open market to pay for this aid. I also own 1 to 3 month T Bills. War is a good way to make money. So I make money as Russia tries to remove the N@zi from Ukraine.

As tenacious as the Ukrainian army is, this looks like shaping operations for a Russian summer offensive. I think western aid needs to increase the number of long range weapons available to Ukraine to create as much logistical difficulty for the Russians as possible. JASM wouldn't be a bad idea, given they are compatible with the F-16s currently in use by Ukraine.
The TOS-1 thermobaric rounds are deadly in urban combat....good riddance.
