I took my cat to a vet but they didn't do anything more than open his mouth and look inside. I've been calling other vets and nobody seems to be concerned because he's still eating. I feel really helpless.
Here's an update for my comment. It turned out my boy had an upper respiratory infection AND a hairball that was having a hard time coming up. He's doing much better and he's meowing clear as a bell again. I got some medicine for his URI and I used salmon oil in kibble that I had soaked in warm cat's milk to help his sore throat, because wet food was just making him gassy and more lethargic.
@@limelightdolan3492 it was a couple days but he threw it up on his own. I fed him salmon oil and cat milk soaked kibble. Salmon oil is supposed to help with hairballs that are stuck, that's what my vet told me. The salmon oil was about 20 dollars at the local pet store
@@hashter5214 I do recommend it, but i do also recommend also going to the vet if the symptoms get worrying. I am not a vet, but the salmon oil and catnip did help him. Keep a close eye on your cat. It's just easier on their throat if it's been sore.
My cat was gaging every time he tried to eat. He was scratching his face as if it was irritated. The problem was a blade of grass stuck up his nostril. Seems it's a common problem. His eyes were running water. I spotted the tip of the blade as I was driving to vet. Luckily we managed to get it out quickly. As vet said if it had stayed it could have meant surgery if it lodged and became infected wit an abscess. So this vets advice is correct. Do not leave it to become more serious.
A family member brought home a stray kitten that was run over and was recovering from injuries. The cat died yesterday, we're not sure why, as despite the injuries he had been mobile and walking for two weeks. Now an older cat of mine keeps gagging, and doing a weird motion with his tongue, as if trying to remove something from his mouth. Since the kitten was not completely healthy to begin with, the odds are that the two things are unrelated, but now I'm paranoid that there could be some poisonous substance in my home, or the young one could have died from parasites that it then passed on to the older cat.
I currently have my cat at a vets overnight for a throat X-ray in the morning and possibly surgery. He hasn’t been drinking or eating and has been throwing up and now gagging because of an empty stomach. He was not himself at all, didn’t want to be touched and slept for days. The first vet we went to said it was motion sickness from a stagma in his eyes possibly caused by a middle ear infection, yet we have not noticed this and the vet said it is very noticeable. My cat usually flickers his eyes when he’s travelling in a car, or in a new environment with new faces. He continued gagging after that vet visit so we went to another vet who after we mentioned his gagging he felt his throat and said he has something in there the size of a pound coin. We do not know what it is as of yet and I am worried sick. The vet said they might be able to do something but it is not certain depending on where and what it is.

I'm concerned about my six year old cat, he was coughing and gagging while trying to drink water, now he won't drink water, or eat, at all. We don't have an emergency vet here where I live so I have to wait until tomorrow since it's Sunday. I put a humidifier in the room with him and it seems to be helping.

There are emergency vets 24/7 and you can’t treat everything at home. Vomiting is a different problem, and I wouldn't worry about your pet choking on their vomit unless they are almost unconscious and vomiting. A simple hairball won’t cause your cat to be unwell which highlights the importance of getting a professional diagnosis
