- Interview with the late, great British actor Alan Bates from an episode of Aspel & Company that originally aired on the 1st October, 1988. On the same show is Judi Dench of which you can can see that interview elsewhere on my channel.
I adored Alan Bates - still do!
He was stupendous, wonderful.
RIP Sir Alan Bates (February 17, 1934 - December 27, 2003), aged 69
You will always be remembered as a legend.
Two all-time favorites--Alan Bates and Judi Dench. Thank you for this.
My pleasure and just to say that there is a third and final part of this programme on the way with another British great, Michael Horden. As always with Michael Aspel, all three guests often talk among themselves. I shall be uploading it shortly.
Wow! Thanks, he was such a brilliant actor.
I totally agree, and with the type of eloquence and charm that came naturally from those performers from the bygone age.
Loved Alan Bates,so handsome.
I totally get that!
With Glenda Jackson gone, how many great English actors are left. Alan Bates' performance as Henchard in the BBC adaptation of Mayor of Casterbridge is something to see. He just commands the screen, and it must have been an exhaustive role for him to play.
Oh I totally agree, very few actors of this ilk are with us today. Thank you for the comment.
How delightfully mercurial and ebullient
Alan Bates is. One of my very favourite actors. His “Butley” is unforgettable. Paired beautifully there with Judi Dench.
Thank you! More Judi is always a delight. :)
Excellent 💯 video thanks again Judy Dench looks great as well !!
A very easy relaxed interview style.
I have said it before and I will say it again, while not as unscripted feeling as some Parkinson interviews feel, there is a lot to be said for Michael Aspel and how he conducts his interview, very much in that relaxed style you mention here.
Great actor. He had the secret.
1988////
Guy Burgess, Kim Philby, Donal Maclean, Anthony Blunt.
This guy is a national hero, congrats on the knighthood
Aspel was at least as good as Parkinson. No question. Easy going natural charisma and intelligence.x
Totally, natural charisma and good humour that made the guests look and feel very comfortable.
They were both dull as dishwater.
Is that a wig?
On whom? Certainly not Bates! He had a luxuriant mane of black hair.
