1 shield with guard 5 work most pf the time just don't forget guard up. Even without scope this gun deals insane amount of damage, 5-10% damage increases from old weapon.
You cannot run 1 shield you lose 30% more damage. Fatalis hbg with 1 shield is usless since its way less damage than safi with 3 shield. Thats the whole point of why i made safi shield builds. FATTY CANNOT RUN SHIELD. Its pointless

Idevaste is right about damage loss with Shields Fatty, Fatty HBG need ways too many mods just for damage(4 mods) you can't slap any damage mod on it if you have shield mods and that is about 20-30% damage loss(from not equiping mods) But it was far from useless Edit: after testing I found IDeVaste spread shield has better damage, I don't see how shield pierce build would really need 3 shield and I don't see how it has higher damage.
With or without, both have some perks But yeah no scooe must be so comfy especially in solo where you dont speedrun stuff so you can evade those attacks But in multi i prefer scope, since monsters not always running into you

Maxing out evade window is better imo vs quick sheathe. If your gonna get hit, quick sheathe isn't gonna be the one that saves you most of the time, its evade window. Also, having to sheathe your weapon is already a dps loss vs iframing attacks and firing afterwards. Edit: Pierce is kinda dead too since elemental ammo exists, which out damages it even on pierce viable monsters (except Alatreon).
I don't know what version of the game you were playing, but it certainly isn't the case now. 4.5 minutes in the arena with Teostra, couldn't even stagger it let alone knock it down.
i run teostra all the time with a slightly less perfect spread build, and did a test with a pierce build which should be awful for him due to elder aura, both easy 5 minute kills with lots of claggers stagger and topples. I say less than perfect because for teostra specifically I use Rimeguard Y helmet instead of greaves and have inferior decorations otherwise, still managed to hit 77 dmg per pellet with full buffs and coral horn cat (mega demon drug+might seed+ demon powder). the pierce damage I couldn't get a good feel for the actual total dmg per shot, but some ticks would hit 80+ on the head.@@bagboybrown
For those who are still playing with shield. I was one of you for a long time too but once I got out of my shell of comfort it was amazing. You will deal a lot more damage Your damage will be your defense (aside from dodging) More damage = monster dies faster = has less time to attack = you take less damage So that means: More damage = less damage :D
That depends of the build to be honest If it is cluster it can work (the sh!t recoil on stickys and cluster just like zorah magda) but anything else its a bit dumb to use shield
HBG Shields are training wheels absolutely. I decided to sack up and get rid of shields after Loyal Thunder and haven’t looked back since. So much more satisfying rolling through an attack and then splooging the face as you pass by.
The aptly named Vor Buster in conjunction with fatalis armor is actually effing busted holy shit. I just beat Fatalis and AT Velkhana (& Alatreon) all solo so i’m feeling like a legend
For those who dont have a bunch of double attack jewels, just make the attack charm 5. It requires killing AT valkhana, but if you are like me and have three challenger jewels 4 then you can use the attack charm instead of the challenger charm and you build will be very much the same as if you had the attack jewel 4's. AT valkhana is kind of a pain, but it is worth it in the end.

What's a good replacement set for mid/end iceborne story that's not best of the best fatalis sets? Most guides I see if for the very very beginning like jagras set and crap, but nothing for late story to start farming some elders and stuff with.

In the minority of people that love the quickscoping. I've been playing the vor buster like this to a tee and it's making hunts feel far more engaging using spread HBG.
"It's not a big deal, stop making it one", says the guy using a hyper-late-game hyper-meta build with all the strongest equipment and decorations in the game, including 3x attack+2 decos in a single build...! This is not going to be attainable for me, ever, but thanks for going in-depth and making it understandable even for less experienced hunters. Big nope for me on the scope, though.
I played HBG until Safi with no shield. It started to get difficult at Velkhana & forward from there. Master rank endgame monsters are really quick & HBG dodge roll is so fat & slow.. It feels like the fat roll in Dark Souls series where you're wearing Heavy Armor with no character stats. But the main issue about HBG roll is the extended animation of it. Because you're animation locked for so long to the path you selected to dodge, the monster has already gone into the next attack & sent it your way. Evade extender & evade window won't change that. HBG is torture without a Shieldx3 & Guard Up in Master rank endgame.
Resentment is a bad skill in general. Now now using resentment would sacrifice true spare shot and alot of other skill. So resentment build would be less damage than a build with no peak performance and 7 attack boost but using fatty armor
MM on piecing are more useful than WEX on some monsters, example silver rathalos where you need to shoot its wings and it's not ranged weakness, or Runiner nerg, or Safi, or monsters with small ranged hit zone like Fatty, Glavinus, Jho.

Now they are just complaining that Fatalis is too difficult. It's not it's the LAST challenge in a game. It's absolutely an epic fight you have to pay attention to.

did you augment health regen on the bowguns? at 7:06 during the fight on alatreon, ur health recovered(not red) when your shots hit but on the builds theres no health regen augment.
with normal 3 not being terrible on the gun as well I like to run health in case i get hit (i'm not the best gunner) and use normal 3 to get PP back up before swapping back to pierce/spread

Why are you going out of the special scope aiming after every single shot? Does it reset your focus so that you don't have to do it manually or is it so that you can see the damage numbers better?

Life steal is terrible for pierce and spread because the regen only applies to a single pellet.
Are you getting those red slash effects on the pellets with a pc mod?
This is probably just me, but I don't like peak on hbg or lbg. It just the health augment doesn't heal you enough but I understand why

This is the first HBG build I can make without farming decos, the /vitality ones would always kill me for farming them

Because those jewels are not essential for the built to work, you'll just have slightly less DPS.

Yeah i said its optional, if you will like adding it its a nice feature but not reliable survival strategy

You are using wrong bowgun mods if you hit that high. You require 3 recoil mods for spread

i thought power barrel increased the bullet speed of pierce? wouldn't that be a loss in dps? or was that a different one
How is fast reload with fatalis HBG? Is it viable over scope?

I use shield on all my HBG builds to get offensive guard to proc, who would say no to 15% damage increase
Any idea how he got 83 damage per pellet against Velkhana 4:30 ? I only got around 50 with almost the same build (attack boost only level 3).
Maybe standing in the critical range of special scope helps?
