    We just finished replacing both headlights in the 2012 Camry SE. My 12 year old son followed this video to a "T" and it took him a little over an hour to finish. He did all the work himself. This video is spot on. Thank you so much for posting.

    How much time did your video save me? LOTS, I'm quite sure, plus helping me avoid damaging anything. Thank you, thank you, thank you. To pay it back a little, some notes: The Phillips in the wheel well is a #1. If you're taking the bumper cover off, you do NOT necessarily have to disconnect the grille from it; you can reach the three lower button fasteners fine from the top with the grille in place. On mine at least there are six of those 10mm screws on the bottom.
    My reason for taking it off: I bumped into something and dented the cover in the lower right corner; I didn't want to replace the whole thing, but it had a dent along that lower "crease". I popped the dent out by cutting a couple blocks of wood with (roughly) mating "V" surfaces and used a clamp to press the wood blocks together with the cover in between, and press the dent out. That worked, but not perfectly. A heat gun on the back side warmed the plastic enough that I could smooth it out close to perfect. Take it easy and don't over-heat! If you don't have a heat gun, a hair dryer on high may work.
    Putting it back on: it may help if you first put those push fasteners all in before you push them closed...likely unnecessary, but it might just save you having to take one back out. The plunger on the grille fasteners seemed to want to go down, which will keep the fastener from going into its hole, and it helped to hold them with two fingers, one on either side of the plunger, just under the head. Also, note that the push fasteners for the top cover have one leg a bit longer than the others, and you can use that to your advantage to get them back in their holes. Before I noticed that, the sprung-out legs weren't wanting to go into the holes very easily. Of course you can avoid that by using new fasteners that haven't had their legs sprung out yet.

    Great clip. So this is designed so you absolutely HAVE to remove the bumper skin to replace the grill that runs the length between the fog lamps (2014 XLE)?

    Question... at 2:39.. you see the plastic on the left side of the radiator? I believe its called a deflector.
    Is that suppose to be fairly loose and not snug? I had the dealership work on a few unrelated things on my car and ever side everytime I drive (especially with a cross wind) I hear this hollow sound much like some plastic getting caught in wind. Its quite annoying and one of those type of things you just have to fix yourself (dealer always says that is normal etc). I hope you have some insight into this.

    could you please post a video on how to remove just the front wheel well liner? i know theres a couple bolts, i can't figure out how to take it off. I wanna replace my fogs but i don't wanna go thru the trouble of taking off the whole front bumper cover

    • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  10 лет назад

      You do not need to take off the whole bumper to get at the fogs. You can remove the two screws in the wheel well liner that hold the side of the bumper. Then remove one of the screws on the bottom. Pull on the side of the bumper to disengage it from the fender. That should give you enough room to fit your hand in and reach fog light.

  • @fubag

    Could you comment on whether I can pop out the lower front grille on the camry and install a new one? Or do I need to take the whole bumper apart? Is it just popped in by clips or something I need to do from the other side? Thanks!

    • @happywrenching
      @happywrenching  9 лет назад +1

      I can only comment on the 2012 - 2014 models. There are three pieces to the lower grille. The center piece is held in place by clips. You should be able to pull it and pop it out. The two left and right pieces by the fog lights are held with clips and also two screws that you need to get from behind the bumper cover. You may be able to remove the under body cover and reach in the back to get those screws. This will save you from having to remove the whole bumper. If you look at my toyota camry foglight and headlight removal video around the 4 minute mark you will see the screws.

    The little plastic things you were removing with a screwdriver... You were doing it wrong. You push IN the middle of the clip and you can then remove it easily. Push from the plunger end to "reset" it. No risk of damage :)

    • @happywrenching

      It's very similar. The biggest difference is that in 2012 - 2014 the front portion of the bumper that contains the grille is removable while the 2011 the bumper is one piece. In addition, the 2011 does not have the top plastic cover.
