The Perlon strap is my favorite 😉 Great photography, you never lose the focus and showing us the watches with a variety of straps is a very helpful service 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Mineral glass is a no go for a San Martin quality watch and yes, also I would certainly pay 20 € on top to get a sapphire crystal.
Was impressed with the "boxage" on that crystal, but finding out that it's not sapphire, that's a deal-breaker. As it is, with no SS bracelet (though, seemingly good-quality strap), it was already pushing it, but the crystal seals the no-deal. Understand that a boxed sapphire crystal is quite a bit more costly in manufacture than, e.g., a flat sapphire, but, still, SM should not be using mineral.
Being a fan of the Longines this one intrigues me. However the mineral crystal and hands make me want to see if they do a V2. The hands just don't hold A candle to the Longines. Thanks for the review.
I have the Longines reissue and I have to say that the SM version looks good. The case back on this one however lets in down- IMHO. The Longines has a bubble- back style, consistent with the era it's supposed to represent.
Honestly an acrylic crystal would be the best choice. Maintains the look with and can be easily polished if it does get scratched. Sapphire would raise the price and you cant get scratches and chips out of sapphire.
it's a nice watch but it could have a sapphire crystal instead of mineral one for that price. There's no screw down crown - it's a nice touch. And the color variations of the dial (some great pearl one like Seagull has) wouldn't be redundant. Cheers!
Most watch reviewers focus almost entirely on the external appearance of a watch. I want to know what I can't immediately see: how accurately does the watch keep time, how accurate is the water resistance rating, how durable is the watch, how often will it need servicing, what is the length of the warranty period, if it is battery-powered how long does the battery last, and so on.
Okay I gotta ask but its a weird question... Ive seen several reviewers wear theyre watch up on their forearm instead of the wrist. Is this a preference thing? And if so why??
It's all preference. Some have itabove the wrist bone, some below, some on. Early on I was below the bone, then moved to more above/on the bone. I find it more comfortable not having the crown hit the wrist
Nice looking watch (freckles aside) if a bit on the dull side for me. Currently wearing my Berny AM038M which I think looks much better and was a quarter the price. Always good though to see what's available out there with all the different styles.
I love it 😀 don't change the good.thank you.you Like casio g. I like the scratches from wearing. It's my watch. Measure and get a sapphire you want. You can change it to be good for you 👍.
Great review thank you I’m thinking about getting one , those straps look really cool , except for the milanese steel , what about the lume ? I’m kidding
Blue strap 1 green 2 the browns 3 metal not the best. I think you would only buy this if you don’t have a cream dial option in the watch box. Most do though The 1963 has a similar vibe and with a few vintage pieces there is no room in the cream dial box.
the 1963 ever really did anything for me **ducks and hides** but yeah, that's definitly one to consider especially since you can get mechanical chrono and sapphire for roughly the same cash.
What I was saying is, if you already have a watch in that colorway, like I do. Adding this to the collection doesn’t offer much. As a self confessed SanMartin fanboy, I am always on the lookout for a new desire.
Nice hands & case finish obviously being sm but that isn't that big of a deal & at that price i'd be looking at citizen & orient all day long with a mineral crystal even the odd seiko , good review but I don't get why you'd buy it at £140-150 i just don't think it's worth it ,when you consider the pagani pd1723 which i'm sure the finishing can't be that bad but i guess its each to his own.
that's true....getting into seiko/orient territory...but unless i'm missing something, nobody makes a similar looking watch to this in the sub "stowa" price range. you may be paying the the styling a little bit here, that's for sure.
I love this simple vintage style with blued hands. However, I wish they had gone with an acrylic crystal and a sterile crown. It would be nice to know how the hands are finished (probably not thermally-blued).
Wow, what a nice watch! I like it, even with the light brown leather. But I will wait for the 41mm version with sapphire 😄 Ok, everyone has a dream... Nice and informatve video, thanks for that! Go on Steve 👍
Poor quality control - look at all the spots on the dial!! (joking). I wished it had heat-blued hands, but the "Baked Varnish Blue Hands" still look good.
I can't believe they went with mineral crystal. It would be appealing otherwise.... The speckles also don't really do it for me. Looks like inferior printing...... Not actual interesting texture or something.
Maybe to some. Not me. Would I like an NH38 no date movement? Sure. Is a ghost date a deal breaker? Not for me, not even close. Literally makes no difference to me.
I like the case size and shape, the crown, handset, and movement. But...... The dial looks like an accident in the paint shop.. The crystal material is the poorest choice of three types available. Coarse horizontal brushing on the lug tops ill suits this watch. Price?...maybe when it's on sale. Let's not forgot the unforgivable....the fatal flaw. A squeaky strap.
Movement choice of SM is terrible! They have more no-date watches than date watches (Thanks God!) but they using 'ghost-date movement' in their watches. There is the NH38 perfect for the job, but rarely anyone using that beside Baltany.
Sorry, but I don't think this is an attractive watch. I can see it being heavily discounted in future sales. I do agree with you Steve that SM should concentrate more on the sub-$200 sector though. Their top end models are just too pricey for homage watches, however we'll finished they may be. Especially as the finish can often only be fully appreciated at the macro level. Manufacturers like Baltany are getting the balance right, and selling at sensible prices.
One of two Longines rip offs by San Martin. Both are overpriced. This one is £150 for shitty NH35 movement and shitty mineral crystal! Anyone who knows San Martin knows they were putting out much higher quality for this price less than two years ago. A darker strap and sapphire crystal would make it worth buying.
love the currency graphic! makes it more accessible for everyone else
That's what I was was hoping for. Unfortunately I can't get the actual price with taxes and import duties etc added in there.
Gorgeous little watch, love that vintage vibe from it. I would put that on a Haveston canvas pass-through strap and never look back :) Great review!
I love it! I think SM made the right choices. It's affordable and it's great for the price.
Excellent review 👍. Thanks Steve!
Thanks for watching Johnathan

Love this San Martin! Vintage vibes. I like the supplied light brown leather, but the tan perlon strap is the winner! Appreciate your review.
This is the exact watch I've been waiting for them to homage!
Nice watch, so beautiful, I bought it and I will replace the mineral glass by sapphire glass 😊
Honestly an acrylic crystal would be the best choice. Maintains the look with and can be easily polished if it does get scratched. Sapphire would raise the price and you cant get scratches and chips out of sapphire.
Yes, indeed. If they aren't going sapphire, acrylic is the way to go...and that goes for anyone, not just San Martin.
@@EscapeWheel Im still gonna buy one of these during the 11.11 sale
@@jaredhill1021 solid price for sure...$140-something
@@EscapeWheel Im seeing $130 in my cart 👍
@@jaredhill1021 even better! 👍
Wow, that looks fantastic! reminds me of that Longines release.
Love the hands, really lovely watch!
Mineral crystal.. it will scratch a lot too bad I really love the watch

are the hands heated blue?
I still don't understand why SM keeps using nh35 instead of nh38 for no date models.
Cheaper chinese brands do.
They must have a literal boatload of them. I can't imagine buying in bulk they are THAT much cheaper than the NH38 🤷♂️
Shout out from New York City that blue strap makes that watch pop great videos thanks 💪💪💪🗽🗽
Thanks man!
I like the dial ... but ghost date ... turns me off :(

Which camera are you using for the B-roll at the start?
Galaxy S22...some with and some without a "pop-on" maco lense
EXCELENTE ê BONITO ESTILO ANTIGO RELÓGIO 👍👍👍 🇧🇷

I heard the glass is not sapphire crystal. I'm about to buy, so I change my mind.
Correct, it is mineral. Probably fine for an occasional wear watch, but not the best for a daily driver
I think it's a tasteful watch.

Does this leather strap patina ?
i doubt it would...it's more suede than actual leather that would crack and discolor
Really like the logo

Strap helps
They always do
Perfect

A lovely watch, and I’m glad they’re doing more sub-$200 watches.
But with mineral I see no reason why I’d get this over a Japanese watch
For the style, man! The Style 😂
Homage to a Longines, yes? (nothing wrong with that)
Yup
domed not concaved
No, concave. It's not a domed bezel like on an oyster perpetual, it's not comical like an explorer, it's concave.
too large imo. This design would looks great with 36mm.
If that had a white dial, no speckles, and sapphire crystal, I would have done a buy...
I can't believe they went with mineral crystal. It would be appealing otherwise.... The speckles also don't really do it for me. Looks like inferior printing...... Not actual interesting texture or something.
Two words: price, boo!👎 (is boo even a word? Dictionary says yes...!😜). Rest is fine.
Cheers Steve, be well mate.
a gost postion is a big deal...
Maybe to some. Not me. Would I like an NH38 no date movement? Sure. Is a ghost date a deal breaker? Not for me, not even close. Literally makes no difference to me.
I'm Very Happy With That (c)

Darn that squeaky strap!
Its a nice watch, only because it's Longines rip-off in typical chinese style 😞
Movement choice of SM is terrible! They have more no-date watches than date watches (Thanks God!) but they using 'ghost-date movement' in their watches. There is the NH38 perfect for the job, but rarely anyone using that beside Baltany.

I agree with all of your points. I know it was a hit for Longines, but I just don't see the appeal.
looks classy..
Still enjoy wearing thos one, too 👍
